Cam Newton was a physical specimen at the Combine -- 6'5 and 248 lbs.  When you're taking hits from men who are paid big money to deliver hits there is a cumulative effect of punishment -- and it doesn't all go away at the start of the next season.

Joints can only take so much regardless of how muscular you are.

It'd be a hell of a boost to his MVP narrative.  Reports he is out at least 2 games or worse so everyone assumes he's out for the game but he does end up playing on Christmas Eve in Dallas in front of a national audience and then plays great in a win.  Movie magic.

It is a narrative, and the only one you care about.

EAGLES fans want a Lombardi trophy, that is something fans can celebrate.  Fans do not celebrate and talk smack to other teams fans about awards.

Interestingly... it wasn't Cam's legs that went on him, it was his shoulder.   And his running style matched Hurts' current style... running over players as much as avoiding them and getting down.   And he also took extra punishment even when he would slide, just as we saw Hurts take in some games where the refs weren't throwing the flags on the unnecessary contact to the QB.   And all these sneaks are extremely physical plays as well... and will have a cumulative effect also.

The hits need to be reduced for the sake of preserving his career, if the team actually has a long term plan for him.   If not, then treat him like a RB, use his body up and look to find another one in a couple years.  That seems harder than just getting his game to complete the metamorphosis.  And...the thing that drives me nuts more than anything else... they have a RB that they could rely on, and an OL that they could have chosen to just pound the Bears with... but chose to put their QB in harm's way, while not having him be overly successful as he was taking these big hits (because it wasn't just the one from the DT, but quite a few from their LBs as well).

And they chose to put the QB in harms way against the Bears, who rank dead last in the league in sacks, pressures and QB hits.  Should have camped in the pocket all day.

Yup.  Sunday's game plan was just a pile full of awful on so many levels.  The weather wasn't great for passing... but they had 2 100 yard receivers.   The weather wasn't great for passing... but they have an OL that run blocks better than it pass blocks... and they have a RB that ran for over 140 yards in 2 of the last 3 games.  And the plan, leading into the playoffs, against a 3 win team... was to let him be the battering ram.

It was a bad game plan. I'm not against taking 1 on 1 shots downfield, but that had nothing to do with Hurts runs. We easily could have traded those Hurts zone-reads for straight-up runs.

And it will look worse, when we run the ball down Dallas throat with Miles, with Minshew at QB who is no threat to run.

The game-plan should be to throw on Kelvin Joseph every other play.

Oh great

I am not against 1 on 1 shots downfield.  I am actually highly in favor of them.  I am NOT, nor have I ever been, in favor of my QB being the leading rusher for my team (not in attempts, nor yards).  We have a 1000 yard RB on the roster.  Use him.  We have big OL who can move people.  Use them.   The Bears had the 29th run defense in the league.   Abuse them.

This isn't a high school team, nor a college team.   A 24 year old recovers differently than a 16-20 year old.  And the bodies hitting him all season have been bigger and moving faster than the ones in HS or NCAA.  It all adds up.

He has an injury that if he needed to play on then he could play on (and did play on the rest of that game).  He didn't suffer a career ending injury or a season ending injury.

I see a QB like Joe Burrow who takes as many big shots as he does in the pocket having his body break down prior to Jalen Hurts.  Jalen will do what his necessary to win to win a Super Bowl this year.  As his career goes on and he continues to to advance as a passer while he gets older and that recovery time starts to slow down then he will transition his play style as well.

Burrow doesn't take 10+ hits a game in the pocket  and getting hit in the pocket is a bit different than getting trucked by a LB while one is running forward.

No one said he suffered a career ender and shoulder sprains are a tough Injury for a player that uses his shoulder every play.

As for the super bowl no one questions whether or not hurts will do all he can to get right and compete but he needs to get healthy first, no reason to throw him out there this week and risk further injury and his career.

While ideally one would like a QB who is an elite runner and can pass the ball as well and stay healthy for 10+ years those guys are the exception not the rule.

The rule is running qbs dont last and that type of football isn't sustainable in the long run.

If hurts had got hurt in a fluke play where he had run the  ball 3 times in the game or from the pocket than it is what it is but fact was he got hurt after running the ball 17 times, which is an insane amount of times to run ones qb in a game especially when that qb already averages 11 carries a game, which is also historically not the norm.

Those hits have a cumulative affect that aren't going to magically go away when he becomes an older passer.

If eagles want to have hurts for the foreseeable future they need to decrease his run usage or he's not going to get to the point where he transitions to more of a passer as he'll be transitioning to IR or retirement.

Would be hilarious if minshew pulls it on a rpo and burns them early

Yep, take advantage or Parsons crashing the edge.

Those black hats are over hyped, can barely tell any difference between the green ones as the green is so dark.

Rather they just keep the regular ones.

Moronic take as usual

probably a good time to point out that on the play Hurts got injured he made the wrong read. Pascal had his guy pinned inside, so calcaterra went to outside. Hurts cut upfield directly into two tacklers and left calcaterra no one to block. If hurts goes outside like he is supposed to he gets more and strolls oob avoiding a hit

Would love to hear this

Dude....I'm sorry he died, but he is the starting QB for an important game. That changes things on an already short week. Record it on video and get to the walk through.

He's delivering his eulogy. How's he suppose to record himself and then watch it if he's not there delivering it?
