I’m still waiting to hear this "Baja New Mexico” explanation.   I’ll admit, I’ve never heard of that term.  I’m curious.

It's a takeoff on Baja California, I refer to Dallas as Baja Oklahoma.

Reason El Paso is really in New Mexico - look for the closest Texas city to El Paso, Marfa, Ft Stockton, you got to go hundreds of miles to get to any real city - that corner of Texas is basically empty. El Paso to Albuquerque 266 miles, Phoenix, 430 miles, Midland 305 miles, Lubbock 346 miles, San Antonio 551 miles.

El Paso is basically isolated from the rest of Texas, and half the city is now north of the Texas border.

Outside of the Stephen A Smiths probably not.

I like turtles kid has lost his throne.

I love when people say Hurts is going to "take the next step” and become an elite QB. The next step for Hurts is just becoming a consistently average QB.

Stereotypes tend to have kernels of truth in them, eh?

Our Canadian major case unit manager and I did a bit at one of our liability line of business manager meetings in Las Vegas where she was presenting and I was translating.  Plenty of words like process and house. PowerPoint had words like colour and flavour.  That one was fun.  I "translated” and then she asked me, "how do you pronounce "your”.   Then she asked how I pronounce "or”.  Then with a comedic pause that would make Bob Newhart proud, she said "who do you think spells it right?”  That was in our script.  But the mumbled "United Statians, too lazy to write it correctly " (yep "Americans” was part of the bit too), wasn’t in the script.  Brought down the house.  She wrote it and he deliverance was standup worthy. (BTW, when you look at pronunciation and English rules of grammar, us United Statians do a pretty crappy job.  Good thing we are speaking Murican and not English).

Great successful lineage there.

How are they going to just get rid of a locker room leader like that?

With a nice check and one of those fruit bouquets

Curious if anyone knows, does Seinert kick off for the Lions?  Had a groin injury that limited his practice on Wednesday.

Philly is basically in Jersey.  We call it Baja Jersey.

Really?

What was the backlash when the Eagles moved on from (arguably) one of the best QB's in franchise history; (Donovan McNabb)?

What was the backlash when the Eagles moved on from one of the most talented and best playmakers in franchise history; (Randall Cunningham)?

What was the backlash when the Eagles moved on from a QB that had played at an MVP level the season prior; (Michael Vick)?

I hope Gannon is looking at the Lions OL injuries and is telling these guys to be like sharks with blood in the water.  I want Reddick to be a force.  Let him attack all game long.  Goff should cave under pressure.

I agree. Gannon is my biggest concern for this season. He has the horses this year. Question is if he knows how to use them

There's a whole different feeling behind Jalen Hurts and our country is horribly unstable regarding race.  If there is a race component that can be turned negative you can bet your bottom dollar the media will take it and run.  Hell, the Eagles were called a racist team last year for not giving Duce Staley the HC job even though I can almost guarantee you we have one of the most progressive owners in the NFL.

The fact that this article was written tells me that it will be a factor when all is said and done.  Half the issue is social media which wasn't around when Randall was here, was just being born at the tail end up McNabb's career here and was still in it's infancy during the Vick era.  There wasn't this community hiding behind their screens ready to pounce at a given moment.

Anyone who has been following professional football (or just about any sport at any level, quite frankly) knows that sports are performance based.  Then add the business aspect to professional sports - what you're "dreaming up" really does not exist - other than maybe a select few small groups - which have always been around - on both sides of an argument.

Those groups (or thoughts) typically say their "piece" and are eventually an afterthought - when the majority realize it is (or was) either a performance based or business based decision.

It's been that way for as long as I can remember and is little different now.  The only reason it may seem different now is because the internet, social media, etc tends to make the groups that scream the loudest sound like a majority but when the dust settles, the truth usually comes out in the end.  It really is that simple.  No need to overthink it.

Malik Cunningham is a heck of a runner at QB. And, he just slid to avoid a hit. So thats pretty nice.

Not sure about passing. he is 3 for 3. He has carried as much as he has thrown so far.

Have you been following or heard about the BYU/Duke volleyball incident?  It's hardly an afterthought.  With no proof or racism, ESPN and the rest of the media conglomerates are set out to ruin BYU and have them labeled as a racist school now.  Dawn Staley has pulled BYU from the USC women's basketball schedule based on nothing.

There are no longer afterthoughts when you have Steven A. Smith types constantly spewing hate.  I wish things could be afterthoughts like you say.

If sports were performance based there wouldn't be a Rooney Rule.  Sports, especially the NFL are knee deep in race relations.  We are going on year 3 of the NFL having the endzones, helmets and sidelines remind us to end racism, choose love and all of the other cliché sayings.  We had the "black national anthem" last night.  Race is still front and center in the NFL.  It's not that I'm trying to look for it to point this stuff out.  It's there for us to see every single game.

I say all of that just to show that the Inquirer publishing an article 100% focused on Hurts as a black quarterback is just opening the door for an ugly divorce if/when Hurts falters.  The hope is that people would be able to see that like you pointed out at the end of the day performance is what matters.  I just fear that won't be the case.

The hope is Hurts takes a giant leap this year and proves all of us questioning his QB abilities wrong.  He has so many weapons and I want them to be dominant.  Randall is the reason I became an Eagles fan.  Donovan was the best Eagles QB of my lifetime and took the Eagles to such great success during his time.  Vick is one of my top 5 favorite Eagles.  I loved the redemption and how he came back with a sense of humility and was just so damn exciting.  I'm just not there with Hurts yet though.

There are issues/incidents that warrant attention.  But if there is no "real issue" the truth will come out in the end as it usually does.

Just enjoy the season and lets hope Hurts brings it and proves his naysayers wrong.  :Eagle_smiley:

I applaud your optimism that's for sure.  Maybe I just need to stay off social media where I'm reminded of these A$$hats that focus on this and keep the divide going.

Yeah that's the first step.  If you tend to take social media too seriously (especially Twitter) best to avoid it.  Eventually you'll realize that the majority of the discord sown on social media is intended solely for that reason and to get "clicks".

There are studies that show that 15%+ (possibly more) social media accounts (especially Twitter) are bot accounts designed to cause discord, arguments, "clicks" etc.   These "accounts" look like regular accounts posting but typically their posts are intentionally designed to be controversial and to invoke responses.  And since they are "bots" they post at a much higher pace - many more times, etc than a "real" account does.  So you could see dozens, if not hundreds, of these "bot" posts in a single thread.
