Some stability at Safety in the post Jenkins/McLeod era. What's the rush to extend Epps? I keep hearing about how great he looked in TC, etc. What has he actually done in real games to warrant the ground swell of hype circulating around him? What did I miss?

I am discussing what Howie did, while this team had a guy that they believed was an elite, top of the line franchise QB. Let's not rewrite history. The Eagles were that when Howie did what he did. Or, at least, the Eagles thought that they were that. It's not really hypothetical. Teams that have tried the approach that you want the Eagles to take have failed. "Pay as you go" sounds great, until you have to extend really good players who say "no thanks". Does that mean I want Howie to extend players like Brandon Brooks or Alshon Jeffrey? Of course not. It's why I'm fine with them not extending Javon Hargrave. Extending players off their first contract (Maddox, Sweat, Mailata, Goedert) = good. Unless we're getting value, I'm not reupping the 2nd year guys.

I've just always liked Reggie Bush. They just seem to be more focused on college football for what it is....college football. They have some betting stuff which I don't care one bit about but boy ESPN is just garbage and it pains me to say that. Like I said earlier this week, it used to be a Saturday tradition for me to put on Gameday and start my weekend with it on. It was that way for YEARS. I just can't stomach it anymore.

Unless we're getting value, I'm not reupping the 2nd year guys. I think we are saying very different things. My concern is NOT with extending the likes of Maddox, Sweat, etc. I am fully on board with paying guys for their second contract. Why? because those are players hitting their prime and will play at a level (hopefully, if you scouted it correctly) commiserate with their salaries. On the flip side, I am NOT interested in the extensions being so lucrative for players for Contract #3. This is where the players are at or beyond that 30 plateau, and have gone past their peaks and the hits of the past 8 years in the league starts to catch up with the players and the injuries start to rack up, and the effectiveness starts to wane. That's a very different thing. Yes, extend the 24-26 year olds. But, be very careful about extending the 29+ year old players. They need to be very very careful. Howie went too deep into that with far too many players. On the flip side, Banner went way too far the other way, to the point that pretty much every player was gone when they hit 30. Delicate dance. Needs to be a little more discernment and a little less eagerness to just extend aging vets... especially at super high prices.

But, Meyer.... And I agree about ESPN. I just tend not to tune in until noon now. Hence my question from earlier. What games are folks excited to see?
September 10, 20223 yr Notre Dame-Marshall is the only game I care about. My "second favorite team" on any given Saturday is whoever is playing Penn State, but I don't think that's really in play today. I'm WAY more of a Sunday football fan than a Saturday one.

What games are folks excited to see? I mean the biggies for today are Bama/Texas and Kentucky/Florida. Would love to see Texas become Texas again. Kentucky/Florida is going to be a doozy for those watching 2023 QB prospects. Tennessee/Pitt, Arkansas/South Carolina, Baylor/BYU and Oklahoma State/AZ State all should be good games.

It’s interesting that Howie made the trade for CGJ without an extension in place, unlike Brown. A lot of that is due to tue capital it took to acquire the player, but it also could be that they aren’t sure if his fit here long term.

And you’re right about the bandaids. Hopefully this year is like 2017, but it’s hard to win those types of bets when you have to do that at 2 or 3 positions. Looking at 2022, White, Bradberry and CGJ look like high probability bets. We're going to get a ton of 2024 comp picks. There's too many guys and not enough cap space.
September 10, 20223 yr Bama has a CB named I need to find a new cliche. I still use the EMB's #1 Cliche. The world is ending.
September 10, 20223 yr Texas/Bama is going to be a showcase of very very exciting RB too. Bijon Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs are worth the price of admission. Robinson is probably the best RB in college football but is he a 1st rounder. Gibbs is going to be a special playmaker. As good as Bryce Young is, I still don't see him as an NFL QB. He's just tiny.

September 10, 20223 yr Who will be the first Eagles starter to miss a game this season, among the guys who missed time last season? Graham, Sanders, Seumalo, Hurts, Johnson, Mailata Other …..

I couldn’t say, but they must have liked what they saw when he started rotating in more for McLeod, and he must have had a strong camp. If they feel that strongly about him, it makes sense to get a deal done now with the safety market exploding the way it has. I think the Eagles have done a pretty good job identifying which players on rookie deals to extend.

Epps showed last year that he is more than a capable starter in spot duty. He was the Eagles best safety. Now that he has a starting roll locked up I think it's smart to lock him up before he hopefully blossoms. He isn't going to be a top safety in the NFL but if he's a solid starter then having him locked up would be fantastic. I honestly think he's going to surprise a lot of folks and be better than solid.

Incredibly low bar, and Gannon basically put them in a position it would almost be impossible to fail. I’m looking forward to seeing if he actually improved or not.
September 10, 20223 yr Georgia State as the opponent or not this is a DART. I REALLY like what Drake Maye has been doing these first 3 games.
