No nerves here, for the first time in a while. Cautiously optimistic about the team, with zero expectations of our QB. If he kicks ass and plays well, sweet! If he doesn’t, we won’t be stuck in QB purgatory for years. Basically, no matter what happens, I’m fine with. Unless we win two playoff games despite the QB play and the team uses the wind to justify an extension. As long as he earns an extension and gets it, or doesn’t earn it and doesn’t get it, I’ll be fine. At least our defense had players to evaluate and watch develop. Last year was pretty brutal

Yeah many people remember last year as better than it was.  But we played very few quality games. A lot of the wins were still bad games

It was unwatchable, for me. Beating the Jets, Giants and redskins at the end of the year to squeak into a playoff disaster isn’t my idea of a good time. There were at least three games I watched with my ex where I had to leave on the third quarter because of QB runs from a clean pocket on 3rd downs that went for like half the distance we needed. I was so upset, she was like "wtf is wrong with you?” But once I explained it to her, she started noticing it and was like "why does he do that?” And she knows nothing about football. I can’t watch that again. I don’t care about stat lines. What I saw with my eyes was atrocious. I’m hoping it will get better this year

I’m in Austin and it’s 90 out. How could it be 30° hotter on the field?

Man, that field turf gets hot. It’s what our kids play on and there’s a huge difference in temperature when standing on that compared to the grass that’s next to the field.

So that means the available roster for tomorrow is 54 players (52 plus Covey and Togiai.  The Active player number is almost 100% sure to be 48, with 8 O-Linemen active being required.  So that means 6 Inactives are needed from the following likely list of 10 players.  Who are your six?

QB Ian Book
RB Trey Sermon
TE Grant Calcaterra or Noah Togiai
OL Josh Sills
DT Marlon Tuipulotu
LB Kyron Johnson
CB Josh Jobe
CB/S Josiah Scott
S K'Von Wallace

Book and Sills are an obvious two of the six, leaving four more to decide on.

Jobe, Scott (given his hamstring despite a full practice)Marlon T, Sills, Book, Sermon.  Frankly, I think Wallace either starts at S or is S #3, depending on how attuned CGJ is.  Don’t like it but expect it.

The officiating in college football is so bad.

If you want to have targeting in CFB fine. But throwing kids out of a game on a bam bam play is BS. I hate it. No matter who I'm rooting for.

You should have watched my bama game. Woof. On both sides.

Looks like all that money the Aggies shelled out  really paid off...

I think I look at it a little differently. To me a bandaid is something intentionally short term to patch a gaping hole.

just because they aren’t signed longer term right now doesn’t mean that they are bandaids. I think they are potential long term fixes but the Eagles want to see more before making that commitment.

maybe they will end up being bandaids or maybe they will be li g term fixes, but I don’t think their lack of longer term contract is necessarily so telling.

I get what you are saying but Epps and Edwards, the two at the end of their contracts (besides Hargrave) are recent starters and Edwards is on a contract extension (was on a three year until "extended” this year).  Bandaid isn’t an insult but Howie has not fixed the defense long term. (But @Iggles_Phan’s Flex Tape works for me.).

added weapons on offense and another full offseason you would think would benefit Hurts. the defense is much better on paper and looked good the first drive against the jets. big year again for Hurts and Gannon has no excuse this year with his defense.

Please don't tell austinfan I mixed up Austin with College Station 🤣

The Eyes of Texas are upon you, once they stop crying.

Great game, bummer ending, but got to give the Longhorn backup QB credit for gutsy play on an ankle where he could hardly stand.

Texas finally looked like they belonged on the field with a top team not named Oklahoma (Red River has them playing over their head some years).

Now they just have to build on it, but you could see the Gary Patterson effect on the defense, he was our nemesis at TCU.

Richardson needs a lot of work

Not impressed by any of the "top" QBs in this draft so far.

Just like last years class. Was supposed to be amazing. Then the season started.

This year looks like there are a couple similar to Hurts. One has a better arm than him. One is tiny but has a better head than him. Either way, not a huge upgrade.

Hope some pocket passer emerges. Richardson and Young are far from sure things.

indeed.

Richardson looks awful

but that DL for FL is talented

Richardson's throws have been consistently high, there have been some awful drops, but still.

Levis has been flat out awful.

I think there is a handful of QBs who have played well so far

Rising

Rodgers

Levis

being 3

Tanner Mordecai another

Kent state giving the Sooners headaches

Rising is going to be Rising up draft boards if he stays steady while some of these other top guys look like just raw athletes rather than QBs.

Mordecai is a sleeper. Stands out when you watch any of those skill players from SMU. He is legit and not a lot of people pay attention to SMU.

Nice Levis

another nice game from Chase Brown. 146 yards rushing.
