I don't know what some of you expect. No, he's not a great QB. He played very well today. He ran the offense how it was supposed to be run. If the offense is supposed to run like this, then we have wasted so many assets on WRs that we don't throw to.

The problem is that he is exactly the same as last year and we already know that's not good enough to win playoff games. This offense doesn't win playoff games. It's good enough to beat up on the lions and jags of the league, and we might squeak out a win against an actually good team, but we aren't winning jack ish.

I like the guy as a person, seems like a great leader, ultimate teammate, I root for him, etc. But the guy has some fatal flaws in his passing game that I don’t think are sustainable to beating teams that aren’t average to below average. If you’re content on winning 9 games a year and getting bounced in the first round by superior teams then that’s your choice. But in a year where this team has enough draft capital to take a top tier QB, he needs to develop as a passer. And Howie knows that. The agenda isn't long term opinions on Hurts but when we win and the O scores 31 pts without a turnover on Hurts back it is an agenda to say he played badly.

He didn't play badly, but it sure as F wasn't outstanding. And still doing a lot of the things he was doing last year which isn't very inspiring

I didn't see a different player than last year. That was the exact same Jalen Hurts. He had 16 carries vs. 18 completions and no passing TDs. In today's NFL, with his weapons that's unacceptable. Not turning the ball over is a good thing. If this is what he is and this is the offense that Sirianni wants to run then they might as well trade Smith and get what you can. The deep throw to Brown was a beauty. Hurts stayed in the pocket and dropped it in the perfect spot. There was also a slant I believe where he stood in the pocket and delivered the ball in the right spot. I'm not going to rip Hurts but just another game where his running abilities are making people think he had a great game as a QB. I want to see more from both the HC and the QB. Too many designed QB runs. This needs context. I don't care if a QB doesn't have a passing TD, if the team is scoring TDs. The telling piece is that the coaches didn't allow him to throw in the RZ after drive 1. Which makes one ask... why is that?
September 11, 20223 yr It's so fun watching Justin Herbert play. This game in general is awesome. Both QBs making big throws, both defenses making big plays. This is fun football

To be honest, even if Hurts was a great passer, we should still run in that situation. Our O-Line is that good.

You don’t rip Doug for beating GB in GB because he RAN the ball, unless you have issues.

Good teams can run the ball in the red zone. Our offense is also good at closing out games with the run game. It's throwing enough between the 20s to score where we're unproven.

It is frustrating to not see the results, but I'm thinking a lot of the fault should be on our coordinator. Maybe Hargrave isn't 100% either, he's barely practiced the past month. Hate to say it but next year they may need yet another DT. Cox is probably out and Hargrave was not extended. Milton is only a rotational guy in my eyes.
September 11, 20223 yr Some other odds and ends: Im stunned an offense ran by Matt Patricia looked horrendous. One of my season predictions was the Pats to finish under .500 for the first time since 2000. Feel good about it. Trey Lance may be special one day, but until he is, he’s gonna cost the Niners a chance to compete. He stinks right now. They’re in a tough spot. Team ready to win with a QB far from ready. If the Colts didn’t give the Eagles two picks, they would’ve been well served to draft a young QB instead of relying on Matt Ryan who looks meh. Tua stinks. Hurts may it be great but he’s better than that bum. Terry Bradshaw looked rough on the pre game show. Looks like he put on 50 lbs

All I want to see from him is progress in the passing game. I already know he can run, extend plays, and is dangerous in that facet. And that’s good to have. But I felt like I was still watching 2021 Hurts from a passing perspective. Because this style of play will yield the same results of last season. Beating average to poor teams and losing to playoff caliber teams.
September 11, 20223 yr I hate our defense so much. I'm still trying to figure out how Gannon got multiple HC interviews.

I don’t think he "played badly.” I think he reinforced a concern of lack of progress with fixing his issues that keep him from sustainably beating good teams, and from being the long term answer at QB. The way he plays, and got us a win today, handcuffs the offense in a lot of ways and doesn’t work against good teams. It was good enough today. It’s not good enough long term
September 11, 20223 yr Reuben Frank: Goff was a punchless 21-for-37 for 215 yards (80.3 QBR) Meanwhile, Sirianni calls Hurts game outstanding. Hurts was 18-for-32 for 243 yards (80.6 QBR)
