So going into next week it looks as though the Vikings should win easily based on week 1 performances but I think the Eagles squeak one out.

The Vikes are riding high convincingly beating a division rival, the Eagles won but did not play well, Primetime home opener, expect the DLine to be better, more experienced kicker.

We’ll see but I think the Birds get it done and their poor performance yesterday is what they need to light a fire under them.

You can put money that the Eagles will go all black with their new black helmets.  That should be good for a TD.

Yep, he showed visible frustration last year...and that was without Brown here.

Yep, if this is going to be the usage pattern, should have just traded Devonta for Brown and kept the 1st round pick.

Jalen Hurts

We're gonna see him throw some pick-6's against better defenses with this heavy reliance on slants to Brown.

Speaking of desperate.  It was one game against possibly the worst team in the NFL.

Saints get Tampa next, and are 3-1 against them since Brady arrived, and then the Panthers.  3-0 and then the Vikings.

All of this equals to 9-8 or 10-17, possible WC and pick 16-18 in the draft.  If they give Hurts a new contract we're back to the middle of the pack decline of AR/McNabb teams.

Look at all the false hope in Baltimore with that style of offense.  If you really stack up the team well (despite all that recent hype, the talent level of this team is NOT there yet), then you can win a lot of games with this backwards style of offense.  It *worked" in Baltimore and can *work* here.  I just would never trust it for sustained success or playoff success.

Too early to tell but if Detroit ends up being a much better team this season, competing for the division/playoffs, this win could end up looking much better later on.  They certainly brought their A game yesterday.

Detroit was motivated and they didn't want to get beat like last year.  They are also a better team on both sides of the ball.

You know what play I miss.  The TE seam route.  Vick was a master at it with Celek and Wentz to Ertz was always killer.

Damn you, Mike. Why you gotta be right about the Saints? We need them to lose.

Just observing from around the league:

the nfc west is worse than I thought it was. Rams are going to win it by default.

I get the niners we’re playing in what looked like a monsoon inside a hurricane but they looked awful on offense especially after mitchell left the game with a knee. I tend to think Lance is going to struggle the first half of the season but look better in the second half.

Cardinals are overrated and have been. Murray is overrated and shouldn’t have been paid that money. They were down some guys but even if they had them not sure they still don’t get blown out like that. I think seattle gets destroyed by Denver and Russ tonight as Russ wants to stick it to the Seahawks. all 4 teams could be 0-1 after week 1

if not for the nfc west, the afc south would be the worst division. Colts offense and Ryan did nothing for the first 3 quarters. Then began to finish off drives and helped by mills turnover. The Texans got the tie but they found ways to lose like the last couple seasons. Imo Colts got fortunate the Texans are the Texans cause that game for 3 quarters felt like a continuation of the jags game in week 18.

The titans might see the biggest regression from no. 1 seed in the playoffs to probably missing the playoffs. Tannehill dropped a dime to get them into field goal range to try and win it. Titans kicker doing titans kicker things. but the giants offense outside of Barkley’s amazing effort and one pass play to Shepard managed to win that game. Titans just couldn’t contain Barkley and their offense just lacks playmakers outside henry since they dealt Brown.

Even though the jags lost i give them credit for hanging around and having a chance to win that game. They get down 14-0 last year that game likely winds up a blow out. Instead they managed to go up 22-14 before losing it. I don’t think they are good but i think Doug will have them playing tougher and be competitive unlike a lot of times last year especially when they got down big early.

KC looked fantastic on both sides of the ball yesterday. Mahomes and Reid got everyone involved and just put on a clinic. Maybe tyreek hill was a bigger pain in the ass last year then we knew about. Cause that offense was humming without him and mahomes looked like he did in 2018 when he won the mvp. After 1 week the bills and chiefs looked like the two best teams destined for a collision course.

the chargers looked great in the first half offensively. The last 1.5 quarters their defense really helped them get that victory. Last year i feel like the chargers lose that game cause the offense couldn’t put up the numbers but yesterday they were able to create turnovers and sacks against Derek carr. Had 2 picks and multiple sacks in the 4th quarter to help seal that game

i just don’t see it with carr. He can put up stats like cousins but i just don’t see him being the guy that gets you where you want to go. I think the raiders even with the addition of Adams are likely the worst team in that division and have imo the worst Qb in the division

Matt Patricia going to get fired or Removed from OC job rather quickly with how that offense looked.

I thought tua played well against the pats defense. They always find ways to make it tough on the Qb even if the offense looks like crap. I think they kind of over targeted hill yesterday at the expense of waddle. Not that hill shouldn’t have 10-12 targets but there were times waddle just disappeared for quarter before seeing another target. i think teams are eventually going to try to take Hill away and that’s where waddle could do some serious damage. That tandem has a chance to be really fun to watch if tua can get them the ball

funny thing about the bengals game, was watching the eagles game at the bar. two Steelers were watching a couple seats down from me. After the bengals scored the tying touchdown, i looked over as they were defeated and said don’t worry it’s cincy they’ll likely F this up and miss the extra point. And they did. Bengals oline was miserable in the first half. Was getting lit up and he was making bad decisions cause of it. I thought the bengals finally figured it out later in the game but it cost them. Brutal day for Steelers injury wise Harris left and has been dealing with a lis franc and TJ watt likely done for the year

ravens beat the jets but felt like they were sleep walking through the first quarter and half of that game. And really a bad jets penalty set the ravens up with great field position for the first td. Lamar had 3 td passes but he was ok. Really expected him to just light up the jets more.

Hats off to the giants (gross) but that’s a game last year they play for the tie and overtime. Daboll goes for it and gets it to his best player for the win. I don’t think the giants are good and Daniel jones still is unimpressive but their schedule the next 3 weeks sets up nicely vs. Carolina, vs Dallas and vs bears. Without Dak i think they are better than Dallas and the bears

wentz had a wentz like performance. Looked great to start. Then hit a lull where he had a bad interception and his second was a great defensive play by the no. 1 overall pick. Then found himself again. Still wentz is better than any Qb Washington has had since cousins. I didn’t think utilize mclaurin to his max. Could’ve had him more involved with the arm strength he has and mclaurin’s ability but mclaurin still had a nice bomb td. Still felt Washington should’ve run away with that game up 14 and yet allowed jags to score 22 unanswered and then managed to win. Don’t know what to make of them

packers have major issues. I get last year they got destroyed 38-3 in week 1. But different circumstances as that game got moved to Florida against the saints and it was hectic and chaos all around it. They turned it around after that. Not sure they turn it around this time. They might turning around enough to make the playoffs but I can’t see them winning anything major unless they make serious moves at wide receiver. Their wide receiver corps reminds me of what the Eagles tried to do in 2020. They have Sammy Watkins who reminds me a lot of DeSean Jackson where he’s just perpetually hurt and unreliable at this stage of his career. He got Randall Cobb who feels a lot like Alshon Jeffery who was late in his career, couldn’t stay healthy and wasn’t very good anymore. And then you have a bunch of rookies you’re relying on to try to be a Super Bowl contender. I’d probably add fuller and try to also get OBJ. They need serious help. Add on the offense of line was bad all day. And I don’t know what their defense is doing but Justin Jefferson is good. he doesn’t need to be 30 yards wide open down the middle of the field repeatedly. That was an all-around bad performance. And Aaron Rodgers held onto the ball too long at times as well. Tend to think he asks out at the end of the year

The Lions on week one always play these type of weird games. Last year against the Niners they did the same thing that they did to the Eagles. They got down big and they made a furious come back to just come up short. The year before against the Bears probably one of the most competitive games. in 2019 against the Cardinals they got down big and they managed to tie the game and the game ended in a tie. I think the Lions office is going to be good as long as Jared Goff isn’t completely useless. They have a bunch of weapons and a good oline. Their defense is gonna be bad

Bears still stink. I think that monsoon helped them a lot in that game

The Vikings looked really good. Defensively they shut down the packers and got some help from the packers dropping wide open tds. The offense looked good especially Jefferson. They have a chance to win the division if cousins doesn’t completely fall apart late in the season cause i don’t see GB running away like in year’s past

The Bucs handled their business. Still think they are best team in the conference. They are the team to beat.

You could see the falcons were going to blow that lead to the saints. Then they did. Credit to the saints for making big plays when they had too. Landry just seems to always go somewhere and find targets. And Thomas remembered he loved playing football. I don’t think the saints are great but Winston in the 4th quarter really got into a groove and going.

Carolina likely wins that game if baker and the offense did anything the first quarter and a half of that game. They were really awful on the first quarter. Also need to get mccaffrey the ball. I get trying to keep him healthy but 5 touches midway through the 3rd when he’s your best player seems really low. As for the browns give credit to them. They have to be a run first team until watson comes back and they were able too. Brissett Did enough to win. They just need to be hovering around .500 until watson gets back in 10 weeks. Not sure they can consistently do this. Imo Carolina’s defense allowed them to just run it down their throats. Not sure other teams don’t game plan to just sell out on the run and force them to have to throw.

Ok. For some reason, I thought it was the other way around. Doesn’t look good for him that AJ is a 10th of the way there with 31 games to play.

Or a dig, or a curl, or a post/stick-nod, etc. Lots of talk about Smith being underutilized but just imagine the damage Goedert could do with a more competent QB.

Eagles lead the NFC EAST after week 1.   Gmen and Commanders both got a Win as well.   It was a Disastrous Week 1 for the Cowboys.   Dak out 6-8 weeks.

Just now, Bacarty2 said:

Like  I mentioned before, I knew one of the two, AJ brown or D. Smith would get the short end of the stick because Hurts doesnt have the IQ to have two targets in the same play. Some time you pick the wrong horse.

D. Smith is on pace to have zero catches in the next 33 games. lol

Half of spreading the ball around is a QB being able to see the field and go through progressions; the other half is play-calling, obviously.  Coaches can dial up the first read to different guys on different plays.  That's why part of the failure is on Siri not dialing up more plays to Smith.  The first half of that equation just will never be a part of this offense until they make a change at QB.

In the early Mcnabb years when he was a 1 read QB, the Eagles were still a prototypical spread the ball offense, with AR having very diverse options as the #1 read on different plays.

I've been saying all offseason they have weapons to rival Philly and a QB who wants to sling the rock

I think it's a 2 horse race between Eagles and Commanders.  And despite being a Hurts "hater," he's going to do a much better job of maintaining his brand of mediocre running back football under pressure than Wentz will...he'll collapse for several turnovers against us and will pave the road to a Philly division title.

Damn. Forgot about that.

When was the last time the Eagles and Commanders/skins/whatever were the 2 best teams in the division?

Off hand, I can think of several years when the eagles were just out of it or several years where it was Eagles/Giants or Eagles/Cowboys....can't seem to recall a time when WAS was the primary competition and big game in the division in a competitive year for the Eagles.

Yep, needs to average 5.6 catches per game to finish it in year 1.

Carson put up some decent numbers yesterday but had 2 picks.   Doug and the Jags almost came back and pulled out the W.   Giants escaped with a missed FG from Tenn but Sequon is looking pretty good again.  Daniel was inconsistent.   As of right now we have to look at it as a 3 Team battle until someone falls off.   I don't see Cowboys winning too many games with Dak out even though that Defense did hold Brady to 19 points.  Based on what I've seen yesterday the Birds are the best team in the Division but we have to get a little tighter on D.

4 minutes ago, Bacarty2 said:

lol they barely beat, and should of lost to one of the worst teams in the league yesterday.

6-11 saints.

We did the same damn thing yesterday lol

Without the pick six or the onside kick, who knows if we walked out with a W

Hurts didnt turn it over, threw the ball away when he needed to (sometimes comically so), and at least targeted the middle of the field more than zero times

He wasnt going to become a stud overnight, and he still has a ton to work on.  No one wants this dude gone more than me.

But he was under an arseload of pressure and we got a win on the road.  Be fair.
