It’s pretty clear that there has been an organizational decision that we would rather risk starting the season slow than risk injuries due to playing in the preseason game. It’s sucks but it is what it is.

I think we should be very concerned about this Vikings game because it’s a mismatch in terms of readiness.

Here's the long run on second down - Lions' first possession. It's a trap play. Hockenson (#88) is lined up in a tight slot just outside the LT.2022-09-12.thumb.png.e836184f55903df4c2a1824e95a4fbed.png

The LT turns out on the RDE (Sweat #94). The C, LG, and WR all release to the second level. Hockenson traps Hargrove (#97).

The two LBs are blocked by the C and LG. CGJ (#23), coming up in support, is blocked by the WR. Bradberry (#24) is unblocked.

Bradberry whiffs on the tackle.

And Swift is off for 56 yards.

The Lions ran a lot of traps and screens. Not only do they work as plays in their own right, they also slow the pass rush because the DL are leery of getting trapped or overrunning the play. Good game planning.

No

Then we definitely need a new QB

They've already smoked us twice since that game

Yup those 2 regular season wins totally make up for not being able to play in the Super Bowl in your home stadium.

I was encouraged by White, Bradberry, CJGJ, and Epps yesterday. Unfortunately, none of them are under contract next year. If I had to choose how to prioritize extensions, it would go White>CJGJ>Epps>Bradberry.

CJGJ was a little rough. Missed some tackles, gave up some to Hockenson. I think he'll get better with time though.

I still cant believe Maddox got juked by Jared Goff. That's gotta be embarrassing.

How did he troll?

I had 30-24. I said someone on here would troll about hurts performance

Swift is also very good and Williams is one tough runner.

Bradberry and CJGJ were garbage in run support all day.

Lions dropped a lot of balls and onside kicked their way to a loss.  Somehow Campbell was worse than Sirianni.  Calling the timeout at the end of the 1st half is just dumb, arrogant coaching.

I didn't like Siriannis clock management in the second half. In hindsight it doesn't matter and didn't bite us, but I don't like entering the 4th quarter with just one timeout.

For one game we saw basically the same QB as last year. Brown makes him more effective of course but the same guy.

Not sure I agree with this. Yes, a lot of runs.  But on several, plus the two shovel passes out of bounds, Hurts had his eyes downfield as he stretched the protection.   Not the crouch to run approach. Way too many breakdowns in protection necessitated runs and some of that was on the trigger still being a little slow but some was on the coverage.  Still not playing in a small pocket so there are factors of same old Hurts.   But have we ever seen a throw chart for Hurts with such evenness in the spread?  In fact, early on I was thinking, Shane, it’s alright to let him throw right sometimes.  We saw a step forward.  Small steps and certainly not a wunderkind level of improvement.  But a slight improvement.  Frankly, Hurts was more on target than Goff, despite a few off target throws. When Goff was off, he was way off.

I love when Eagles fans say this.

He had Less INT's than Hurts last year. He also missed less time than Hurts last year.

For all the crap we give Wentz he had 7INT's lol

I have this debate with my brother all the time lol he's one of those who hates blindly and over defends the underdog. Wentz for all his flaws protects the ball better than most QBs. It's the time of his interceptions that are laughable. What I seen from him last night it looks like he is going to be a pain in the ass for a few years

Yeah, but when it gets to the secondary as often as it did that's on the DL and DC. I was never a big fan of Nick or Gannon, but they are both idiots, and it's hard to know what's on the players and what's on their bad choices.

I have to watch the all 22 but i thought Marcus Epps was flying around and played well for the most part.

If St Brown and Swift made us look silly, imagine what Jefferson and Cook will do.

With a first-year OC, I am sure there were a lot of wrinkles that we hadn't seen before.

That doesn't absolve bad tackling.  But the Lions' schemes on both sides of the ball presented some unanticipated challenges.

I don't know what Hargrave's gap responsibility is but he is not square to the LOS and makes for an easy block for Hockenson.  CJG  also seems to mis-read the play and comes in too far to engage the blocker. If Bradberry makes the tackle it's an 8 yard gain.

@LeanMeanGM Guess i'll start week 2 prediction already.

Vikings 30 - Eagles 20

Bonus - Gardner Minshew does burnouts at midfield with his party bus for the halftime show.

I think Swift is the better RB today. Kid is very underrated. But oh boy, Jefferson is going for 200+

For all you PFF guys, the best QB in the league week 1 was ranked 8th :roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll:

He did get rid of the ball a few times that showed improvement like the shovel passed out of bounds.  I'll give you that, yes.  The other stuff though was the same to me.  Didn't attempt to throw downfield (one time), still looked right far too often overall, didn't stay in the pocket, etc.
