Just observing from around the league:

the nfc west is worse than I thought it was. Rams are going to win it by default.

I get the niners we’re playing in what looked like a monsoon inside a hurricane but they looked awful on offense especially after mitchell left the game with a knee. I tend to think Lance is going to struggle the first half of the season but look better in the second half.

Cardinals are overrated and have been. Murray is overrated and shouldn’t have been paid that money. They were down some guys but even if they had them not sure they still don’t get blown out like that. I think seattle gets destroyed by Denver and Russ tonight as Russ wants to stick it to the Seahawks. all 4 teams could be 0-1 after week 1

if not for the nfc west, the afc south would be the worst division. Colts offense and Ryan did nothing for the first 3 quarters. Then began to finish off drives and helped by mills turnover. The Texans got the tie but they found ways to lose like the last couple seasons. Imo Colts got fortunate the Texans are the Texans cause that game for 3 quarters felt like a continuation of the jags game in week 18.

The titans might see the biggest regression from no. 1 seed in the playoffs to probably missing the playoffs. Tannehill dropped a dime to get them into field goal range to try and win it. Titans kicker doing titans kicker things. but the giants offense outside of Barkley’s amazing effort and one pass play to Shepard managed to win that game. Titans just couldn’t contain Barkley and their offense just lacks playmakers outside henry since they dealt Brown.

Even though the jags lost i give them credit for hanging around and having a chance to win that game. They get down 14-0 last year that game likely winds up a blow out. Instead they managed to go up 22-14 before losing it. I don’t think they are good but i think Doug will have them playing tougher and be competitive unlike a lot of times last year especially when they got down big early.

KC looked fantastic on both sides of the ball yesterday. Mahomes and Reid got everyone involved and just put on a clinic. Maybe tyreek hill was a bigger pain in the ass last year then we knew about. Cause that offense was humming without him and mahomes looked like he did in 2018 when he won the mvp. After 1 week the bills and chiefs looked like the two best teams destined for a collision course.

the chargers looked great in the first half offensively. The last 1.5 quarters their defense really helped them get that victory. Last year i feel like the chargers lose that game cause the offense couldn’t put up the numbers but yesterday they were able to create turnovers and sacks against Derek carr. Had 2 picks and multiple sacks in the 4th quarter to help seal that game

i just don’t see it with carr. He can put up stats like cousins but i just don’t see him being the guy that gets you where you want to go. I think the raiders even with the addition of Adams are likely the worst team in that division and have imo the worst Qb in the division

Matt Patricia going to get fired or Removed from OC job rather quickly with how that offense looked.

I thought tua played well against the pats defense. They always find ways to make it tough on the Qb even if the offense looks like crap. I think they kind of over targeted hill yesterday at the expense of waddle. Not that hill shouldn’t have 10-12 targets but there were times waddle just disappeared for quarter before seeing another target. i think teams are eventually going to try to take Hill away and that’s where waddle could do some serious damage. That tandem has a chance to be really fun to watch if tua can get them the ball

funny thing about the bengals game, was watching the eagles game at the bar. two Steelers were watching a couple seats down from me. After the bengals scored the tying touchdown, i looked over as they were defeated and said don’t worry it’s cincy they’ll likely F this up and miss the extra point. And they did. Bengals oline was miserable in the first half. Was getting lit up and he was making bad decisions cause of it. I thought the bengals finally figured it out later in the game but it cost them. Brutal day for Steelers injury wise Harris left and has been dealing with a lis franc and TJ watt likely done for the year

ravens beat the jets but felt like they were sleep walking through the first quarter and half of that game. And really a bad jets penalty set the ravens up with great field position for the first td. Lamar had 3 td passes but he was ok. Really expected him to just light up the jets more.

Hats off to the giants (gross) but that’s a game last year they play for the tie and overtime. Daboll goes for it and gets it to his best player for the win. I don’t think the giants are good and Daniel jones still is unimpressive but their schedule the next 3 weeks sets up nicely vs. Carolina, vs Dallas and vs bears. Without Dak i think they are better than Dallas and the bears

wentz had a wentz like performance. Looked great to start. Then hit a lull where he had a bad interception and his second was a great defensive play by the no. 1 overall pick. Then found himself again. Still wentz is better than any Qb Washington has had since cousins. I didn’t think utilize mclaurin to his max. Could’ve had him more involved with the arm strength he has and mclaurin’s ability but mclaurin still had a nice bomb td. Still felt Washington should’ve run away with that game up 14 and yet allowed jags to score 22 unanswered and then managed to win. Don’t know what to make of them

packers have major issues. I get last year they got destroyed 38-3 in week 1. But different circumstances as that game got moved to Florida against the saints and it was hectic and chaos all around it. They turned it around after that. Not sure they turn it around this time. They might turning around enough to make the playoffs but I can’t see them winning anything major unless they make serious moves at wide receiver. Their wide receiver corps reminds me of what the Eagles tried to do in 2020. They have Sammy Watkins who reminds me a lot of DeSean Jackson where he’s just perpetually hurt and unreliable at this stage of his career. He got Randall Cobb who feels a lot like Alshon Jeffery who was late in his career, couldn’t stay healthy and wasn’t very good anymore. And then you have a bunch of rookies you’re relying on to try to be a Super Bowl contender. I’d probably add fuller and try to also get OBJ. They need serious help. Add on the offense of line was bad all day. And I don’t know what their defense is doing but Justin Jefferson is good. he doesn’t need to be 30 yards wide open down the middle of the field repeatedly. That was an all-around bad performance. And Aaron Rodgers held onto the ball too long at times as well. Tend to think he asks out at the end of the year

The Lions on week one always play these type of weird games. Last year against the Niners they did the same thing that they did to the Eagles. They got down big and they made a furious come back to just come up short. The year before against the Bears probably one of the most competitive games. in 2019 against the Cardinals they got down big and they managed to tie the game and the game ended in a tie. I think the Lions office is going to be good as long as Jared Goff isn’t completely useless. They have a bunch of weapons and a good oline. Their defense is gonna be bad

Bears still stink. I think that monsoon helped them a lot in that game

The Vikings looked really good. Defensively they shut down the packers and got some help from the packers dropping wide open tds. The offense looked good especially Jefferson. They have a chance to win the division if cousins doesn’t completely fall apart late in the season cause i don’t see GB running away like in year’s past

The Bucs handled their business. Still think they are best team in the conference. They are the team to beat.

You could see the falcons were going to blow that lead to the saints. Then they did. Credit to the saints for making big plays when they had too. Landry just seems to always go somewhere and find targets. And Thomas remembered he loved playing football. I don’t think the saints are great but Winston in the 4th quarter really got into a groove and going.

Carolina likely wins that game if baker and the offense did anything the first quarter and a half of that game. They were really awful on the first quarter. Also need to get mccaffrey the ball. I get trying to keep him healthy but 5 touches midway through the 3rd when he’s your best player seems really low. As for the browns give credit to them. They have to be a run first team until watson comes back and they were able too. Brissett Did enough to win. They just need to be hovering around .500 until watson gets back in 10 weeks. Not sure they can consistently do this. Imo Carolina’s defense allowed them to just run it down their throats. Not sure other teams don’t game plan to just sell out on the run and force them to have to throw.

I didn't like Siriannis clock management in the second half. In hindsight it doesn't matter and didn't bite us, but I don't like entering the 4th quarter with just one timeout.

Truth be told, Sirianni is still such an unknown.  I have no idea what he is as a head coach, what kind of offense they want to be and what this team is.  I don't want to keep ragging on Hurts but so much of this is because of his limitations.  Does Sirianni really want to have an offense where he's calling 7 QB runs?  Does he want a limited passing offense?  I have no idea who he is.  At some point, Sirianni has to say this is my team and this is how I want them to play.

We knew exactly what AR wanted to do.  Same with Chip Kelly and Doug P.

I don't like his approach towards the offseason.  That's the only thing I do know about him.

Yeah, but when it gets to the secondary as often as it did that's on the DL and DC. I was never a big fan of Nick or Gannon, but they are both idiots, and it's hard to know what's on the players and what's on their bad choices.

The defense as an entire unit showed no potential whatsoever to slow down an offense's running game. And that's a pity considering we traded up to draft a run-stopping DT without much pass rush ability.

Better than Mahomes!?

It’s pretty clear that there has been an organizational decision that we would rather risk starting the season slow than risk injuries due to playing in the preseason game. It’s sucks but it is what it is.

I think we should be very concerned about this Vikings game because it’s a mismatch in terms of readiness.

Vikings rested most of their starters during preseason too. That’s the trend with most teams. This game is a mismatch but it’s not because of preseason. It’s because Minnesota is a better team.

He did get rid of the ball a few times that showed improvement like the shovel passed out of bounds.  I'll give you that, yes.  The other stuff though was the same to me.  Didn't attempt to throw downfield (one time), still looked right far too often overall, didn't stay in the pocket, etc.

I've seen this a few times, but I don't agree its "improvement". He routinely did this last year as well.

PFF has always been a bit of a running joke, but it sure feels like them ranking Hurts above Mahomes here is simply to troll their critics. This can't be a serious evaluation, right?

I have to watch the all 22 but i thought Marcus Epps was flying around and played well for the most part.

He was fine, White was fine, Edwards too. Even Slay held his own at times, but the DL and those two were massive liabilities.

Maybe I just don't remember those "smart plays" from last year.

Anyway, I'm sticking with my general observation.  We saw the same guy from last year.  Only one game and I'm happy to be patient but I'm not holding my breath.  I think at the end of the day Hurts is what he is and that's it.

He played well.  He throws himself around and I like that.

It might be easy to believe that if he hadn’t put Hurts in MVP talks long before they announced the Cason Strong troll job.

Why do you think that is the gameplan.  Go ahead, I'll give you as much time as you need.

8 designed runs plus the option to run on passing downs. Pretty simple, really.

Some of their stats are useful, but as a whole, PFF is useless.  That list, dare I say, could be interpreted as racist.

Jalen Hurts had the 9th most carries in the NFL yesterday.  Interesting to see that Patterson is a straight up RB for the Falcons now.  I always thought that could have been a way to salvage Reagor.

RK PLAYER TEAM RESULT CAR YDS AVG TD LNG FUM
1 Jonathan Taylor, RB IND T 20-20 at HOU 31 161 5.2 1 17 0
2 Joe Mixon, RB CIN L 23-20 vs. PIT 27 82 3.0 0 31 0
3 Nick Chubb, RB CLE W 26-24 at CAR 22 141 6.4 0 25 0
4 Cordarrelle Patterson, RB ATL L 27-26 vs. NO 22 120 5.5 1 15 0
5 Leonard Fournette, RB TB W 19-3 at DAL 21 127 6.0 0 17 0
6 Derrick Henry, RB TEN L 21-20 vs. NYG 21 82 3.9 0 18 0
7 Dalvin Cook, RB MIN W 23-7 vs. GB 20 90 4.5 0 16 0
8 Saquon Barkley, RB NYG W 21-20 at TEN 18 164 9.1 1 68 0
9 Jalen Hurts, QB PHI W 38-35 at DET 17 90 5.3 1 16 0
10 David Montgomery, RB CHI W 19-10 vs. SF 17 26 1.5 0 6 0

Nah... only 16.  The last one was a kneel down.   It isn't a real rushing attempt.   It shouldn't be counted.  That should push him out of the top 10 in carries.    Umm... yay. 😕

Still the team's leading rusher in terms of carries... which should never happen either.

After listening to Ben Solak on his new podcast with Sheil, I'd rather even him running this defense than Gannon. Really makes Gannon sound like he's f'n clueless.
