With this offense, I'd much prefer a WR corps of Brown/Pascal/Watkins/Ward and the 2021 #10 pick utilized on Micah Parsons.

They called Alex Singleton of unnecessary roughness in a play just like this against Carolina last year.  I think it's definitely a case of act like a runner and get treated like one.

It's been that way for a long time in the NFL.

Same trap play, end zone angle:

LG goes through to LB, leaving Hargrove unblocked. Hockenson cracking down for trap block. RT going for other LB. RG whiffs on DE but he's too far away to affect the play. WR on left lines up CGJ.

I thought it was because he got 2 personal foul/unnecessary roughness penalties (one for the hit, the other for the swing).  Had only one of them been unnecessary roughness he would have stayed in the game if I'm not mistaken.

The rule is automatic disqualification for unsportsmanlike conducts. He was ejected at the refs discretion, not an automatic ejection

Should Howie use draft capital to acquire a DE, or roll with someone off a practice squad or another FA?

It all comes down to who it is.   If it's just another rotational type... nope.

Yes 2 unsportsmanlike penalties and it's an ejection. I remember the commentators mentioning he was ejected at the refs discretion though. I didn't know they could just do it at their discretion though

Even with a healthy Barnett, they need to do something about the pitiful pass rush

In other words, please no 4th round pick for Genard Avery trades.

Avery never even got into a rotation.

The defense as an entire unit showed no potential whatsoever to slow down an offense's running game. And that's a pity considering we traded up to draft a run-stopping DT without much pass rush ability.

Yeah, they looked like a dumpster fire. Cox may be cooked, but that's on the DC for leaving him in for that many snaps.

I noticed a number of times today you’ve spelled Hargrove, when it should be Hargrave. Just a small correction, but thank you for the breakdowns

Our defensive line got absolutely manhandled on those runs.

You are correct and I thank you.

Gannon had Cox at DE sometimes too. I think that was because of injuries

Yes, that was after Barnett went out.

I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt with it just being the first game after a training camp and preseason that wasn't beneficial to a defensive unit getting up to speed.  But if this defense lets the Vikings and Redskins have their way with them over the next two weeks as well then Jon Gannon has to be the clear issue with the defense. The talent is there for them to be much better than what they showed against Detroit.

Racist

I'd take JPP if he came cheap. Not sure what he's looking for though.

Maybe he'll take a 5 finger discount

I'd say the 2nd or 3rd drive, IIRC.    In that particular play, I think the double rushers were lined up in the B gap.   Lane took the outside guy.  Seumalo and Kelce took the inside one (Hutchinson, I think) and the DT over Kelce came free.

This is on the first drive:

2021923031_2022-09-12(11).thumb.png.675ef7da91229a1b9d2709323caa8a98.png

Lane Takes the outside guy, Seumalo takes the inside guy. The LDT tries to hit the A gap on the other side of center, where Dickerson stones him. I have to think this was a mistake by the DT. He should hit the A gap in front of him to pressure Seumalo rather than leave him free to take the rusher outside.
