Tryout Tuesday but no leaks on who.  I expected a bunch of DEs. 

Sspeaking of DEs because they only carried five in PS and rested Graham, Sweat and Barnett, the Johnson brothers got snaps at DE.  At 248, Patrick Johnson is almost DE sized.  Wonder if he is getting snaps there.  Neither of the brothers were great at sealing the edge in PS games but I thought Patrick was better.

Hurts' trade value will be interesting if they do in fact move on from him after this year. I bet you could sucker a team into giving up a 1st for him. If Lamar moves on from Baltimore they would probably be interested since they can run the same offense.

Hurts' contract status will be an obstacle to getting a first rounder for him; that's why I felt his trade value was highest this past offseason.  Anyone wishing to trade for him is staring a $40M+ extension right in the face.  I just don't know what team will want to pay that bill after this season.

The Ravens are a possibility, but frankly I'm not sure Hurts does anything that Tyler Huntley can't.

That doesn't explain why he didn't pressure on the 3rd and one throw that Slay got beat on for the TD.  He should have had Edwards blitzing the A gap to at least take Goff's eyes off the throw.  Instead he did nothing and it's a TD.

Bit disappointing in college.  Not a high motor guy. A Reagor (my new term for a player that read their clippings).  High recruit out of high school but inconsistent in effort in college. Third day selection this year that didn’t survive the cut this,year. Better athlete than Barnett but his pass rush repertoire was lacking. Real opportunity here so we will see if he rises to,the occasion or continues to Reagor.  Hopefully sliding to the practice squad humbles him to,get a chip on his shoulder and motivated.

Weaknesses

• Relatively thin lower half for his listed size.
• Needs to keep his motor running and finish plays.
• Disappointing lack of fight against Florida.
• Inconsistent controlling the point of attack.
• Relies too heavily on his feet and not enough on his hands.
• Allows tackle access to his frame in pass pro.
• Elevates pad level on counters, allowing easier redirection.
• Drops head, losing sight of ball-carrier.
• Below-average body control as tackler.

Just watching the All 22 from the first half.  The play calling didn't help Hurts at all; lots of routes where 2 players were in the same area, the middle of the field is empty.

There was one play where Sanders and Smith pulled a Reagor and just stood watching the play go elsewhere. Steichen needs to be a lot, lot better - they had to know the Lions would mimic what the Bucs did.

The DTs too.  Some awful run defending from Cox and Hargrave; they were barely worth being out there at times.

I don't think anyone should.  I wouldn't pay him $10M.  What he and his agent ask for is another matter.

It remains to be seen whether Hurts has a future as a starting QB after this season.  Based on what he's shown so far, I sure hope the Eagles don't see it here.

On one of the throwaways, Hurts had 3 outlets to the right and ran left. Didn't even look right too - not sure what he was doing.

And Watkins pulls a Reagor too.  A symptom of being the 4th read and knowing the QB won't get there.

True, he was caught looking to pick up the outside rusher and Hutch blew past him on the inside. That was the only time though that I recall. Every play after that Malaita engaged him, and Hutch was absolutely stonewalled.

Talking about Howie's involvement on 975.  

They said early in the year before Fulgham had his stretch of good games, Carson and Doug both wanted Fulgham active on game day based on how well he practiced and his report with Carson, and Howie said no multiple weeks in a row.

I saw that.  It looked more like an assignment error, rather than being beaten 1v1.

It looks like Mailata is looking at and setting for the OLB, who drops into coverage.  The rest of the OL slides right, giving Hutch a clear path.

A scheme win.

There was no outside rusher, for starters. I'll take a deeper look when I have time.
