He's not taking that Josh Allen leap, and from what we've seen and heard from Howie ever since they drafted him, they aren't sold on him in anyway either. If they do franchise him or give him a big contract.....I'll be very shocked, and saddened.

Hurts was a god awful QB in that game. But he was a better player than most of the defenders on detroit's defense. There will be teams who can exploit his tunnel vision, poor decision making, inability to read defenses, and propensity to run (often way too soon). But even against good teams this offense has enough talent to put up 20 points. More against bad teams. This defense has the talent to hold teams to 20 or less. It needs to start doing that. And I have more confidence in that happening, than I have in Hurts suddenly being able to put up 27+ points against good teams. We know Hurts isnt the answer. We need our defense to help make up for his deficiency if we are to have a successful season. Hurts didn't have a god awful game. He was mediocre as a passer but didn't throw up bad passes. Look at Dak's performance against Tampa if you want to see bad QBing. He made Detroit pay for blitzes with his legs. I agree that we are not likely to see Hurts blossom into something he hasn't been at this point in his career. I do expect he will have better games passing the ball especially because the o-line is likely to look better as the season progresses. I am not sure how you can have faith that Gannon will improve. His press conference makes me think he is literally oblivious to what is going on on the field. He did nothing to adjust as the game went on and Detroit had long drive after long drive.

Him not being able to get to his 2nd or 3rd read if AWFUL. Against a good team that crap doesnt fly. He played well. The offense put up 31 despite the OLine looking out of sync. But keep nitpicking to defend your agenda

But "Superman" Hurts had to get his (17 carries, FML), and well, here we are. 15 minutes ago, Alphagrand said: There was talk of franchise-tagging him yesterday. September 14, 20223 yr I can't remember where I heard this or read it, but it was something along the lines of Hurts has raised the floor, but he didn't show much to see if his ceiling is higher. I think that's pretty accurate assessment. Hurts did some things better than last year, but he does look uncomfortable in the pocket and he's not a QB that is going to sit there and go through his progressions. This offense is going to work against bad teams, and is going to struggle against playoff caliber defenses. @LeanMeanGM Vikings - 31 Birds - 24 Eagles defense gets zero turnovers I would like to see the OL settle in and pick up the blitz better. The defense needs to use more than one formation, and Davis needs more snaps. Dalvin Cook and Jefferson are very slippery, so they better practice tackling. Would love to see them learn on Sanders a bit more in the run game to prevent additional hits to Hurts. Hurts needs to slide earlier when he does run, and obviously get DeVonta involved early and often. Vikings have much better LBs than the Lions, so will be interesting to see how they respond to Brown over the middle.

Anyone that is not in this echo chamber of the blog is able to realize that Hurts played very well in the game on Sunday and was a major reason as to why the Eagles left Detroit with a win instead of a loss.

I thought there were some really nice throws and we saw some significant and substantial improvement from his game in terms of being able to throw from within the pocket. In fairness, watching the All 22, Hurts did throw from some small pockets and that is an improvement. Now that is improving to something that we should have seen three years ago, but it is an improvement nonetheless.
September 14, 20223 yr If no one watched the game and just read this blog you'd figure that Hurts must have thrown a bunch of interceptions, held onto the ball too long and took a bunch of sacks and just flatout threw a bunch of wildly inaccurate passes that WRs had no chances of catching. Except none of that occurred. Instead he consistently moved the offense down the field, made big plays with both his arm and his legs and put up 31 points in the week 1 opener. They could have out up even more if that final drive required it as well instead of icing the game with a few kneel downs after they secured enough first downs after the Lions had burned their timeouts.

September 14, 20223 yr 58 minutes ago, HazletonEagle said: Expanding on my post from earlier re: more concerned with the D than Hurts I am not willing to give Gannon much leash for this season. I give it 3 more weeks max to see improved tackling, more Jordan Davis, and better red zone play. Over the next 3 weeks I think we should be able to hold Minnesota to 24 or less, Washington to 20 or less, and the Jaguars to 17 or less. We have the talent to do that. Thats not a very hard 3 game stretch. As we know, Hurts is not the answer. And he hasnt shown enough improvement over the summer to week 1 to make any meaningful difference for the offense. If anything, giving him a target to lock on to has made him worse. The promising prospect of a vastly improved D with all the new personnel was our only shot at really having a chance to improve our record, and become stronger contenders for a deeper playoff run. We will get farther from the defensive improvement we should have made than we will from the marginal, if any, improvement Hurts has made. So we cant give this long. There is a fantastic D Coordinator probably in our building as we speak not officially employed by the team. You need to get him in sooner than later if we are going to make a chance so the D can begin progressing in his system before the end of the year. Wrong. You don't think his accuracy and decision making was improved in that game? You don't think the oline was out of sync? RBs not picking up the blitz? Give the guy a chance. He was the reason they won. He still needs to improve and show it consistently. But he is improving whether you admit it or not.

It honestly wouldn't be fair to him. You'd also be creating a pretty big divide in the locker room.
