Ooooofta.  Anyone see Kelce eat it?

An incredible display of judo skills

Unfortunately they were playing football and he was completely driven out of the play

I’ve come to terms with my feelings for Hurts.

It isn’t that he stinks. It isn’t that he’s a terrible QB. It isn’t that you can’t win games with him or that he isn’t getting better. It is that he is never going to be the type of QB I want for the Eagles.

I strongly believe there is a cap on how deep we can go in the playoffs because I believe you need a QB who can pick apart a defense with his arm to go deep, and here’s why.

if a guy can pass, all you need is one breakdown - one missed assignment, one WR to get behind a DB, one stumble and you have a big play. And there are lots of chances for that all over the field every time a QB drops back to pass.

With a QB who is most dangerous running - especially a guy who is mostly a one read and run QB - an offense becomes more one dimensional and I believe easier to shut down.

I want my RBs to do what Hurts is doing, and Hurts to pick a defense apart, with escapability when the opportunity presents itself.

he is never going to be that. Our offense won’t ever be that with him. And so while I’ll  enjoy wins, I know not to expect Hurts or our offense to be what I know it never will be. And I expect to be capped as a good, not great team until we move on.

Typical response from a dinosaur like Bowen. A QB ''doesn't need to win with his arm'' he needs to win however he can. Hurts ability to run the ball in a win doesn't put some asterisk next to their record. Dumbest thing I ever heard. Not to mentioned he was able to get the ball to Brown 10 times for 150 yards.

I understand the point you're  making that a win is a win is a win.  The big picture here is that the Eagles invested HEAVILY in DeVonta Smith, Dallas Goedert and AJ Brown.  You don't make that investment in weapons if the QB isn't going to get them the ball.  Sure, AJ Brown was huge.  One week in to the year, that move looks great.

Hurts 100% can win a game with his legs and that might be needed.  He did it Sunday.  He can't and won't be able to do that every game.  It's just not sustainable and if that's how they plan on winning then there is no point in having DeVonta Smith on this team.  Goedert had 3 big catches on Sunday but you want more targets for him too given the contract he just signed.  Good teams are going to figure out how stop or limit Hurts legs.   When that happens, I'm not sure Hurts has the capability of progressing through his reads and running the team as a passer.

As usual, I seem to be the only one who paid attention to Seumalo enough to see that he played well. Sanders bounced outside once on an OZ right when the alley was inside the numbers. Other than that he was very good. Good pass pro blocks as well. I agree about Lane and Kelce. Mailata had an early whiff but settled down. Detroit took a number of cheap shots and he was right there to express his disapproval. Stoll blocked better than Goedert. Togiai had a drop. Smith had a drop and a catch negated by penalty. Quez was a rumor.

I guess I have grown used to Seumalo being the Eagles best G since Brooks injuries added up.  Nothing flashy, steady good work.  I was impressed at how he really handled the snap count to countermand the noice. Says something about how Stout trusts him.  Presnap he is the only OL not watching the D. Really impressive performance although I thought the look back limited what he could do.  I didn’t see him make any mistakes in the game.

I feel like that should have been a penalty. Hold? You have to grab his arm and pull him to do that. Unnecessary roughness? If you cant suplex a guy like Dawkins did, doesnt seem like tossing them should be allowed either. Tripping? Its not sticking a foot out, but its bending over and sticking your hip in to him to make him tumble over you.

Seems to be walking a fine line along any of those potential penalty calls.

However, if there are no rules against that- It seems like a really useful skill for an undersized LB like Martinez, or Dean to have.

First, thats gotta be embarrassing for Kelce. Now it stands to reason that OL will be a little more careful next time. Approach more cautiously, pay more attention to hand placement. And in slowing him down to think about that stuff, maybe that gives you the advantage- a split second more to slip around his block.

A trillion billion million percent this.

I still want them to win. I will take the wins any way we can get them.

I want the guy to get better at that which I think (most of us think?) he needs to get better.

But, man, does he have a long way to go.

However, he did improve some.  Poor line play but yet no INTs. And threw it away wisely.  And made some good throws. Some growth?

Coaches and game planning needs to HELP him get better. Split the field in half.  Routes that open up space for the other routes. Routes that make it tougher to defend the whole field. Instead of having receivers piled on top of each other.

@LeanMeanGM

Sigh...Eagles 31 Vikes 24.

Bonus: Goedert with a 20+ yard TD.  I like his YAC last game.

Bonus that doesn't count: Slay with a pick.

t i t for tat. Also, this is under the 6 day window - unless the move was made yesterday.

Edit: Read Vikings instead of Lions because I had too many Lone Stars and moonshine last night in Texas.

Sure hope the Lone Star was on sale. Was a crappy beer before they got bought but because of the recyclable bottles were cheaper than Shiner and Pearl.  Nowadays I would drink Shiner. If you like moonshine, I suspect you drink bourbon. Venture out to Hye to Garrison Brothers.  Do their tour.  The sample in the distillery is young bourbon, not moonshine but closer.  Their single barrel is a great young bourbon but their double barrel and cowboy are great bourbons.  If you like wine or beer venture closer to Fredericksburg.  They really don’t grow the grapes there. Those are high plains.  Best Tempranillo in the country.  Great wine for Spanish tapas or Mexican food.  The German based beers from the local breweries are pretty damn good.  More of a wine guy than a beer guy at my age.

My wife and I both like bourbon but I like aged and she likes younger (older than moonshine but not older), but I love tequila. (Both are made for sipping’). I always mean to hit Dulce Vida in Austin for the Anejo aged in Cabernet barrels.  I love a good bourbon barrel cab and I love respado so this has me intrigued. 512 too.  Ever venture to either of them in Austin?

Chris Simms talking about the defense after watching the tape: Way too simple, bland, and predictable. Like the talent on the defense. Every coverage is incredibly obvious before the snap.

Well, if you followed the whole discussion, we were discussing Hurts performance against a still horrible Lions defense.

What were your concerns?

Run defense was much more problematic than pass defense or coverage.  The poor tackling may have been a product of a lax training camp (for tackling to the ground, anyway)

The coverage was too soft. Goff too often was able to hit his drop and deliver the pass. Sometimes he patted the ball once or twice. He was never confused. He was never forced to work to a third progression post snap.

Oh that's bad.  OK someone help me out here.  With this new defensive alignment, if Reddick rushes the passer, is that considered a blitz or is that just our standard pass rush?  If that's considered a blitz and he only sent Reddick a maximum of 6 times then my biggest fears for Gannon and that FA signing are going to come true.

What new defensive alignment. Watch the All 22.  Hugely disappointed in Gannon.  He pretty much played Reddick as an edge in a two gap 4-2. The 5-2 really wasn’t.

Im not sure if it went that way in the 1st half, but entire 2nd half was easy- just threw at whoever Maddox or Edwards were covering.

There's one ball to go around. Brown was dominating and open all game long, so Hurts took the defense gave him. Including several key first downs with his legs. There will be weeks where it's a Smith game, or a Goedert game. Hurts is never going to be a pocket passer though. People need to quit envisioning a 6'5 250 white guy with a rocket arm and thinking that's the only way to play the QB position. Hurts still has work to do and ultimately he has to show he can beat good teams, probably in the playoffs. More often than not he gets the job done and that's what matters, not that he doesn't fit the mold that some people think a QB should be.

Hey screw me for wanting my QBs best ability to be his passing, right?

Fire Jonathan Gannon.

No, screw you for thinking a franchise QB should be a 6'5 250 white guy. 2022 and some people still can't accept a black athletic QB who plays well and wins games with his legs and his arm.

Good thing Goff was damn near as scattershot as Hurts throwing the ball, then
