Coaching staff abandoned the run way too early and they completely failed in their game planning to get their best WR, DeVonta involved in the game at all early on. It was terrible all around on offense and terrible on defense too. But why didnt Hurts play well? We are focusing on Hurts. Oline didnt play great....Goedert had a bad drop. Okay. That doesnt completely excuse why Hurts was awful vs Tampa. Why was he not successful when he dropped back to pass, throughout the course of the game. Why was our passing game completely shut down??

Here is citation based on an SI article with and here is the link. Not playing the race card or participating in all the "racist" slinging on this blog. However, this bias is just as valid as your analysis of Hurts. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racial_issues_faced_by_black_quarterbacks#Stereotyping_of_black_quarterbacks. I think this is, at times, what folks are writing about with the constant "he is an athlete but can't process" stuff. We don't really know that. Maybe he has worse vision in one eye (making this up) but jumping to the athletic and not as smart is a repetition of what one could classify as a race-based stereotype. An empirical study published in The Howard Journal of Communications supported this hypothesis. The researchers analyzed the written descriptions of quarterback prospects in the NFL Draft section of the Sports Illustrated website from 1998 to 2007. They looked at each player's description for words or phrases about athleticism and intelligence and sorted them into categories based on whether they were positive or negative. A significant difference was found between how black and white quarterbacks are described by SI. Black quarterbacks tend to be praised for their athleticism and criticized for a lack of intelligence. Meanwhile, white quarterbacks are often praised for their intelligence and criticized for a lack of athleticism.[19] For example, Daunte Culpepper and Tee Martin, both black quarterbacks, were described with terms such as "physical specimen" and "impressive specimen," respectively. Meanwhile, white players were described as "good signal callers," and "real student of the game."[18] Lets look at the first 2 African Amercian Super Bowl winners Doug Williams Quote Despite the success that he enjoyed on the field, Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Joe Gibbs was the only NFL coach who visited Williams to work him out and scout him. Gibbs spent two days with the 6 ft 4 in (1.93 m), 220 lb (100 kg) quarterback, reviewing play books, film, and going through passing drills. Impressed by his poise, work ethic, and studious nature, Gibbs rated Williams as the best quarterback in the draft,[6] writing in his scouting report that Williams had "a big-time arm with perfect passing mechanics” and was "a natural leader...very academic and extremely prepared...football smart,” and recommended that the Buccaneers select Williams with their first-round draft choice. Russel Wilson Quote Strengths Wilson is an accurate passer He is a very mechanical quarterback who is consistent in his drop step and thoroughly understands how to move within the pocket and evade when the pocket collapses He is an athlete and can torque his body to make any sort of throw on the run, and is accurate in this setting He is a born signal caller who shows command of the offense He has the arm strength to make the deep throws and the touch to put it on a receiver in stride He is effective when scrambling and is a classic play extender Its almost like the things you say are posted about white QB's, are good things for QB's of any race to have.

Gannon said he shared the game plans with Howie directly. Again, what’s the problem with this? Howie constructs the roster. Insight into how his coaches are using players is a bad thing now? He shouldn’t know how the coaches view players? That all ties into who to extend, who can be traded, re-signed, etc.

He does not need to be in the game planning meetings. Did I read the tweet wrong? He’s not in game plan meetings. They just share it with him after the fact.

I clocked the first half and there were 10 RO plays. On 8 of them, the RB took the ball. As I said in response to a post from @Iggles_Phan, I didn't believe Hurts was really running a true RO on most of them but was showing the RO action to freeze the DE. I persist on it because that's how many runs he had. Which is far too many.

Becuase had a bad game. That happens. The coaching staff and other players around him also having a bad game only compounded the issue. I don't know why that is so difficult for you to comprehend.

September 15, 20222 yr Still cant believe that the Lions defense played right into Hurts' hands, by blitzing him hard and often, playing to Hurts strength to improvise, and use his athleticism. Much Like Vick, you have to "mush rush" Hurts and keep him in the pocket, disquise your coverages pre snap and confuse him. Take away his first read, and run lanes, and make him beat you with his progressions and arm. That is how Tampa did it in the playoff game, and I am wondering how long before a team follows that game plan? Hurts gets "antsy" real quick. 1, maybe 2 reads and he is gone. On Monday night will Ed Donnatell play Hurts closer to how Tampa did or will he do what Aaron Glenn did and just blitz him heavy, allowing Hurts to escape and make plays?
September 15, 20222 yr Do you have more confidence in the defense or Hurts this week? I may actually lean Hurts. Howie may triple team Jefferson so that he doesn't get embarrassed on primetime by the guy he whiffed on and Thielen/Cook could go wild. Curious what plays Howie calls on offense though.

September 15, 20222 yr Very curious if we get the home green uniforms Monday or if we get our first look at the black uniforms with the black helmet.

I would lean Hurts also, Rodgers and the Packers were horrible week 1 last year, so not going to read anything into that. I am absolutely terrified about what Justin Jefferson is going to do to us. You know he wants to put the nail in the coffin of that discussion ( even though it was sealed when we traded Reagor ), but he wants to put his own bow on it, and what better place to do it than in Philly with the GM who made the mistake watching.

Maybe Washington too?

September 15, 20222 yr 32 minutes ago, we_gotta_believe said: Yep. A better form of play action because you're not turning your back to the defense. Meh... I am not 100% sure of that. It's different, but not necessarily better to me. Classic play action still means a pass set from the OL, which means the receivers have more time to get down field into a route. An RPO has the OL run blocking, limiting the time the QB has to release the ball, which limits the routes available for the receivers. Different, but neither is superior, imo.

Yeah the reason I don't think we do is because it's the home opener but then again it's prime time and they like busting those out for some of those home prime time games.

Well you convinced me. It is IMPOSSIBLE for this team to ever win a playoff game. Might as well stop watching now. The same should go with any other team with the same type of QB from ever trying as well. Every kid in college should just forget about their NFL dreams if they run a one-read RPO style offense because they will never ever win because the Tampa Bay-Eagles playoff game set the standard for that type of player. This has nothing to do with the effectiveness of the Eagles' O against Tampa. The second bolded is sort of true. Lots of running QBs ran into a wall when the playoffs have come, not just Hurts. You do the best with what you have, but you don't commit long term to that style of QB, imo.

True, I guess I should reframe it as a mesh-point two-handed play action vs conventional single-handed play action. You can run pass sets out of both, and you don't need to actually have a true read on the former to suck LBs up to the LOS. In other words, you can run strictly passes out of the gun after having a fake mesh-point hand-off, without any packaged plays (i.e. no intention to ever read a defender or hand the ball off.) Merely giving the appearance of that as a threat to keep the LBs close to the LOS.
