We beat someone good in 2020?

If you consider the saints with taysom hill at Qb good. They made the playoffs that year but we also faced them with hill under center

  • Perfect weekend for me. I got to make my long time soul mate my wife officially. And I got a eagles win today. Life is good.

You do what Bowles did.  He took away Kelce with his really good LBs and pressed the receivers.  The DL mashed the pocket and prevented the run.  You really need LBs that can cover and play sideline to sideline against the best QBs.  The DC needs to be real clever with defense shifts at the snap.

Didn't Chiefs have backups at tackle during the SB loss to the Bucs?

I understand what you’re saying. But that’s not really what’s happening. I’m not sure who thinks what, to be honest. I know there are some old heads (long time blog posters)  in here that have seemed to take this position of "Let’s defend Hurts, but also admit we don’t think he’s the answer.” Which is fine.

but after the game, criticism of his lack of progress as a passer was met with "Chill, we won. He didn’t improve as a passer but did enough to win.”

Where as criticizing an up and down (mostly down) defensive performance was open season.

I get that "Hurts haters” have a stigma, so this whole "look at me, I’ve been posting in the blog since the good ol’ days, look how reasonable I am by not taking a position” thing is the new "in” thing.” I totally understand it.

But for a bunch of really smart guys to act like it’s ludicrous to criticize a "winning” QB performance that showed zero progress in the area we've talked about literally all winter, spring, and summer.. it just seems a little disingenuous and kind of self-righteous. Like, I get it. I remember when the blog was all just reasonable discussion too. I’ve been an every day blog guy since 03 or 04. But to downright pretend that they don’t understand the criticism is just.. silly.

I’d say it’s because Hurts played a functional level of football to help the team win. The defense mostly embarrassed itself and clearly would have been the reason we lost.

One of the biggest issues for Hurts (not the biggest of course) was throwing over the middle or even throwing left. There were concerns he could take advantage of Brown’s skill set. He showed positive signs in those areas Sunday. Yes, he runs  too much. Yes, he’s not great at consistently going through his progressions (although he gets knocked a little too much for being a "one read QB”). The improvements he’s made have been incremental, but not sizable enough as a passer.

I think it comes down to what is a reasonable expectation for him? Hurts will never be the type of QB most people in here prefer. He’s not going to become a good pocket passer who happens to run the ball well. If he’s going to be "good enough,” it’s going to have to be because his legs are a weapon and he can do enough through the air to keep teams honest.

Most of us agree that he isn’t our franchise QB, and the Eagles’ actions have shown us they don’t think he is either.

Who talks about his speech or how he dresses?   They all dress like morons.  Did you see R Wilson the other night?  Look at the NBA players.  Joe Burrow dresses like a turd too.  Hurts acts like cloths and fashion is part of his job.  The photo ops are Fing stupid.  That’s all.

As far as how he speaks?  Again, who said anything about that?

He does play like a RB at times.  So I’ll call him a RB at times.  Oh well.  And he’ll learn the hard way that a good QB in the NFL doesn’t play that way.  It’s not really a matter of IF, but WHEN he’ll get hurt.

I’ll take accountability on that. I said he mumbles a lot and doesn’t speak with much personality, and is quite boring to listen to. Also said he sounds like a daily motivational calendar with all his one liners. It was just observations though, didn’t think I crossed any lines. I also said Davion Taylor talks faster than he runs because it’s true. Or Herbig sounds like Baby Huey.

I'm sure the Eagles would trade Hurts and 2 1's for Herbert or Burrow in a second but that's not an option.  They also decided that not one QB was worth a 1 this year to play over Hurts.  Some act like if we watch & hope for the best without being overly negative that we're somehow influencing the team to not draft a QB next year.

Thanks I guess.

Nice to see you talking football, that's all.

I know you got some chops.

No validation required or intended.

I also made fun of Wentz for dressing like a hot dog with mustard

You mean in the draft?  Yeah, and they were right.  I said back in Jan that, that was the right move.  Just ride with Hurts until the better class comes along.  But they did try to trade draft assets for an accomplished vet.  Wilson and/or Watson.  Seems that they both did us a favor.

I'm not arguing that they shouldn't try to upgrade Hurts. Just that people don't need to act like he ran over their dog with every post.

Sometimes teams tell you what they really think of a player and there isn’t anything more than that if you watch the moves they make. There’s a reason why the 9ers kept Jimmy G on the roster. It’s that they’re not 100% sold on Lance and if they’re 1-4 through 5 games they’re yanking him since they have the roster to make a playoff charge this year. There’s a reason why KC shipped Alex Smith away even though he took them to the playoffs. It’s because they knew Mahomes was the real deal

There’s a reason why Howie keeps stockpiling first rounders and kicked the tires on Wilson and Watson. It’s because he isn’t 100% sold on Hurts. The writing is already there, you just have to see it and some refuse to see it. They see these guys every single day so it’s probably wise to follow their moves. Every single legitimate issue people have with Hurts, the coaches and front office see it. Do they want him to progress and take the job? Of course. But there is a contingency plan in case if he doesn’t and they are prepared in case if he doesn’t progress. They will not burn 5 years with the Hurts experiment.

The defense had like 4 three and outs at one point as well as a defensive TD. The defense for most of the game was fine. Then in the 4th quarter, both the defense and offense just completely fell apart.

For some people here that's an outstanding game

Gannon got lucky by some either awful throws by Goff or some awful routes where the QB and the receiver weren’t on the same page.  Frankly, Goff and his receivers lost the game more so than the Eagles defense won it.

The defense was in fact bad most of the game.  They had one stretch from drive 2-5 where they weren't and then pretty sucked every other drive and gave up 5 TDs

They did and Bowles took advantage but I am not sure the OTs would have solved that.  The front seven was really effective.  Taking Kelce away as the safety valve was key.

It's a real bummer that the first Wentz vs Eagles game isn't in Philadelphia.  At least the Philadelphia game is on MNF.

If the Eagles can beat the Vikings on Monday then the realistic path is there for the Eagles to start 6-0 heading into the bye week.

Good luck with that

Pregame before the Vikings MNF game and the players and coaches are getting ready for the game.  Howie Roseman comes into the locker room and is Al Pacino in the clip.

I can't see the Ravens letting Lamar go if they were already willing to offer him a very substantial deal.  Only way is if this season goes very badly for him and them

I’ve said before that Lamar Jackson’s contract demands are high risk, if he has plans to stay in BAL.  If he doesn’t care about staying then it’s not risky because he’ll likely get a big fat contract extension from somebody

If I were Decosta I’d franchise tag him, then listen to trade offers when he refuses to sign the tag.  He’s a diminishing asset with demands to be the highest paid player in the NFL.  I doubt his performance this season will motivate any NFL team to fully guarantee a deal.  The NFL is catching up to him.

Also that list of teams is probably complete nonsense. I'm sure he didn't tell anybody that he has 3 exact teams he'd consider going to next season already

I wouldn’t call it nonsense. They logically make sense. If tua doesn’t play well this year, the dolphins are going to move on and they have been trying to get a "big time” Qb to replace tua in the past. Wouldn’t be shocked he would want to go to Miami if the dolphins move on from tua. It’s south beach and they actually have a nice amount of talent on offense around him.

if hurts doesn’t pan out, the eagles have a opening at QB. They have one of the best olines in the league, brown, smith, goedert. I’m pretty sure most QBs would love to play here behind that oline and with those weapons. Plus i think the eagles would have interest. I like lamar I’m not in love with him but i could see the eagles very much having interest if he wants to be here and is available (assuming hurts doesn’t pan out)

the lions aren’t moving forward with Goff. He’s a stop gap. Say what we want about the lions they have an up and coming oline that looks solid. good WRs in st. Brown, chark and Jameson. Have a nice tight end in hockenson. Plus swift is a really good back.

those 3 teams actually make a lot of sense if tua, hurts and Goff aren’t the guys going forward. I don’t know if he said anything but those three teams i wouldn’t be shocked if they were in the sweepstakes

sure they are logical possibilities for media speculation. I very much doubt he's telling people a list right now.  He's got a season to play and is really still likely to resign

Possibly the Saints?   Not last year with semen face as their QB but the year before I think they were pretty good.    Them and the 49ers early in the season, but I’m only guessing they were good that year since they’ve been decent for a few years.

49ers had Nick Mullens playing and Saints had Hill. The teams might have been decent but it’s hard to count those as beating good teams with those two starting.
