Same level, maybe.  But Wentz has six years as a starter and is 29.  Hurts has 1 1/3rd years as a starter and just turned 24.  So if people are saying those things about Wentz at this point,  that is a concern.  But I don’t think that folks think Wentz is "still improving”. I think folks learned that 2019, 2020 and 2021 is what they get with Wentz and 2017 was an anomaly.  I think with Hurts we may continue to see some improvement but let’s face it, when the improvement noted is he threw over the middle or to the left, that doesn’t bode well for a high enough ceiling.

Well said. Baby steps at this stage are a disappointment.

The game should be coming to him now, light goes on, however we may express it.

Is his ceiling really one and run? If so, it needs to be identified and decisions made.

Again, roll with what you have, cupboard's kinda bare right now but know your limitations and plan for the future accordingly.

You're up, Howie. Stay or Hit.

a win against a good team that shut down Rodgers last week certainly leaves us with little to complain about.

I am pretty sure people will still be complaining.

I think we are going to learn more about the Eagles tonight than we have from any one game in the last 2 years.

The Vikings are a sound team that packs a punch on both sides of the ball.  While I will ALWAYS be a skeptical non-believer of a QB whose strength is not passing the football, a win against a good team that shut down Rodgers last week certainly leaves us with little to complain about.  If they lose, then the narrative of never competing with a good team gets just a little more suffocating.

The arguments against Hurts' style is that it won't work against a good team.  If it does then it should quiet the haters (it won't be it should), if he fails then you know you need a QB in the offseason. It's not all on this game of course but it's one of only a few good teams we face so it's significant.

Im just thinking, what if maybe, just maybe, Detroit was a really good test and warm up game for us and we are better than we think.

Maybe there is a chance that we win tonight fairly convincingly. Should still be fairly close. But still come away feeling we were the better team all night.

Probably not. But just maybe...

I understand this sentiment.

I don't think a win is necessary, because the Vikings might actually be really good. However, we should feel like we can play with them.

Fletch and/or Hargrave need to have a good game tonight. That’s the key imo. Tonight would be a good time for Cox to show he can still perform at an above average level. The defense needs to stop the run and disrupt Cousins’ timing.

If the D-Line doesn’t have a good game I think Cousins throws for 400 yards.

Thoughtful this morning. Good oatmeal?

Detroit surprising everyone 2 weeks in. They have something going on up there, talent, attitude. Goff not entirely playing like Goff...

Maybe we did beat a better team than first projected on our opening rusty outing on the road....

Home opener, prime time game, haven’t beat a good team since probably 2018. A win isn’t necessary but it goes a long way into saying if this team can actually make a playoff run or most likely gets bounced round 1.

Sure it’s only week 2 but a win would be huge tonight.

It will be an interesting test if the Vikings jump out to a big lead like the Ravens did over the Dolphins yesterday.  If Hurts needs to come back from a multiple TD deficit with his arm, we have a reference from a guy in his same draft class, who multiple folks here say sucks compared to Hurts coming back with his arm.

The Eagles lost in week 2 vs. the Chiefs and won the Super Bowl. The Bucs lost in week 1 and won the SB.

Obviously a Win would really help, but it's still really early in the season. I want to see Hurts play well with his arm and for Gannon to not fall on his face.

The Bengals added Lael Collins, Ted Karras and Alex Cappa on the o-line.  They certainly addressed it.

I can’t speak to Alex Cappa but I have a pretty good sense of Collins and Karras. Karras is a smaller Matt Pryor - strong but immobile. Very limited player but OK if you don’t ask him to do too much. Collins is a JAG. If you look at the cap hit Dallas is willing to pay just to let him go you can see how little they valued him. Steele is better and he’s also a JAG, but a bigger younger stronger and cheaper one.

Jordan Davis, yes.  I wouldn’t hold my breathe on Dean getting in much, at least not now.

wont help the run D, but Edwards was a liability in the passing game and got picked on in the 2nd half which is when Ra and Hockensen got most of their production. Dean needs to be in for coverage on clear passing downs. Thats a key part of making this defensive scheme work. Front controls the run game, LBs help coverage.

Play Jordan Davis more, and get Dean on the field in obvious passing downs in place of Edwards. Those 2 changes could probably bring a fair amount of improvement over what we saw last week, and dont even require Gannon to come up with any new brilliant designs. Just put the right players on the field.

I would like to see Dean get some snaps as well, replace Edwards on obvious passing downs for a bit.

Looking back, Andy mostly never played the rooks, not sure why. Give the young guys some snap counts. Work em in.

Teambuilding. Get everyone involved, especially your higher Draft picks.

I think people bend the examples of other QBs how they want but ultimately Hurts needs to perform well against good teams.  I think the posts that say that all we need is a QB who can read a defense are way off. It's like all we need is a QB that has a strong arm, can read a D, can handle the blitz, not take sacks and not turn the ball over. There's like 10 of those guys and I agree that's what we want and in the likely event Hurts isn't that then they need to look elsewhere. But let's not act like those guys are just floating around everywhere to be had

Yeah, it's called playing two thoroughly mediocre teams and managing to beat one of them.

I’ve accepted Hurts for who he is. Last week he was the best version of himself, imo. I don’t think he’ll ever be a QB to stay in the pocket and make multiple reads. Much of that is because he’s limited on the precision throws he can make. That’s just my meaningless opinion. His ceiling is probably a middle class man’s Lamar. He was drafted in the 2nd round, and he’s played like a QB who should have been drafted in the 2nd round.

The D-Line HAS to be better. They’re loaded with high draft picks, high FA contracts, etc. . They need to be a top 10 DL in the league with the amount that was invested in them. It’s hard for me to be too critical of Gannon when the DL can’t collapse the pocket, slow down the run, and get pressure on the edge.

Shallow interpretation of how he played the first half of the game.  Guess all that matters are stats.  The turnovers, safety, drives ending in punts, those mean nothing.

Did I miss the call-ups or did Eagles not announce them yet?

All of that matters. The other stat is 1-1. I figured Wentz will do cousins type things for the next 7 years. Crazy numbers, 9 wins. Let's also not pretend the Washington defense is a disappointment for most....and hoping it stays that way XD

I agree with this.  The offense seems like it should be able to produce points against good teamsk but the reality is that last season they only were able to score late in games.  They haven't really been able to keep up with an offense in a shoot out type game.  The defense, for me, is the bigger question.  I think another underwhelming performance puts a real potential cap on this season.  It also means they should just get rid of Gannon sooner rather than later.  He's not the answer and won't be for anyone until he learns more.

I think it is a bit more than that.  @Iggles_Phan has made some pretty good posts about whether it is sustainable.  Vick was a better runner than Hurts but the hits added up and he missed games.  McNabb had to change his game.  @austinfan catches a lot of grief about his "unproven” comment. But part of his point was consistency over multiple years, especially as the talent around the player changes.  The questions around Hurts style aren’t limited to whether he can beat a good team.  It involves whether he can do it consistently over a period of years.  Howie and the coaches are facing a question soon about extending Hurts or continuing to look elsewhere.  Frankly, the running in camp and the called QB runs against the Lions suggest they will utilize Hurts to the best of his abilities and continue to look towards improving the position, recognizing that is a bit like hunting a unicorn.

Again, the context is important. If we won 3-0 and Hurts threw five picks, would that absolve him from criticism?
