We're not going to add a DT but DE is sorely needed for both depth and longterm. If Hurts is consistent all year, we can fix DE in the draft two times over.

Somehow the MIN run game was dissuaded despite a lot resources put into coverage, and timely blitzing/pressure especially in the RZ were very encouraging.  This is kind of what MIN did to GB last week (although GB did get better results on the ground)... hopely Gannon doesn't go ultra vanilla next week against WAS as this approach doesn't seem to work anywhere for any team.  I got worried there for a bit as he went very soft between 20s for most of the 2nd half and got bailed out a couple times with drops- the RZ approach fortunately was a different story.

Lost in all of this though, I can't remember the last time the Eagles WON a game when they were honoring someone at half time.   Last night was the Dick Vermeil HOF ring presentation.  And they won!    I was at the BDawk ring presentation... it was a sad affair.   The Reggie White number retirement, IIRC was a blow out loss.  Opening of the Linc... disastrous loss.  Closing of the Vet... disastrous, crushing loss.  

I might be confusing my games but wasn’t the Dawk number retirement game against the Giants the game where Andy iced their kicker (who missed) and then missed again to seal the win?

A rotational pass rusher would be the easy answer.

He might be talking about the game where they honored Dawk for getting into the HOF.

It wasn't just that Cousins threw 3 INT; they were all BAD picks.  On Slay's first one he and Jefferson weren't on the same page at all, the second one was a 5'8 Maddox stepping into the throwing lane (would have been an easier pick for a 6' tall player) and the 3rd one was a dreadful underthrow that was an easy Slay pick.

Couple that with the 3 INT the Eagles dropped and it could have easily been a 5 or 6 INT game for Cousins.  He was bad -- and panicked in the face of the blitz

I was less than impressed with Gannon last year but also knew he wasn’t playing with a defense that had the talent he likely required to be what he envisioned. Why i was more willing to see what he did this year. Week 1 wasn’t pretty but then again last week i said the lions always play those type of games week one dating back to 2019. Also there was no way to fix the entire defense in one offseason. I still don’t think it’s completely rebuilt. it’s why you see them tend to struggle to get consistent pass rush with 4 guys. I think ideally the eagles envision Graham not starting at 34 on this defense and is in more of a Chris long role. And why Cox was brought back (didn’t know then if they would get Davis). But they couldn’t do everything.

week one had some moments for the defense but overshadowed by inconsistency to get off the field. Last night he had it working when he blitzed and as the game wore on i think the defense asserted it self and just went to work on cousins. Last night was gannon’s best game as a DC with dialing up blitzes and the best QB the eagles defense has shutdown since Jim Schwartz was here. 

I still believe Watkins is underutilized.  He is very, very dangerous deep.  He should be used more consistently and methodically to probe defenses deep...and to get an easy 5-7 yards underneath when he sees too much of a cushion.

I was very happy with Hurts' performance last night. It seemed the coaches really drilled it into him to have more patience in the pocket. He hung in there longer and did keep his eyes downfield, which opened up some nice plays from him. 

The OL is a mess with these penalties. I wonder if the Vikings made it a point to the refs the Birds were getting away with a lot of illegal man downfield. Is it because Hurts sometimes holds the ball too long or is the OL just coached to get up the field quickly? The OL as a whole played very well. There was a constant wall around Hurts that almost never got broken. Clean up those stupid penalties and this is a top 2 OL again.

5. Reddick's presence on the field has been a net negative for the defense through 2 games.  Blame him, blame Gannon's utilization of him...whatever it is, it's not working at the moment.

Sweat is the only DL who is doing much of anything disruptive.  The DT's are not generating much push at all.  The massive disruption of the Vikings' respected pass attack was equal parts the secondary balling out with Cousins crapping the bed...with a touch of Sweat and a sprinkling of timely blitzes.  

7. While I do believe that ST is being eroded from relevance in the modern NFL, whatever left of ST that is still impactful needs a lot of work for our Eagles.  This looks to be a team that will lose at least 1 game because of ST shortcomings this year.

oooh man that sucks. I didnt realize states were still not allowing daily fantasy football. Especially since it is separate from the sportsbook.

Next week...the defense's goal should be to put Wentz' ball security to the test.  Edge rushers and the blitz should be strip sack hunting around the edge.  Try to get him on the run downfield too.

yeah I was thinking Sweat might force like 5 fumbles. He is always around sticking his arms out for the ball and Wentz is going to hold it out there.

Don’t you worry the Phillies are at home this week (last home games of the year) for 6 games and by the end it might be a funeral for the season unless they figure this crap out.
