Just some thoughts on Wentz and the Colts...

I really thought, ever since last year, that Matt Ryan was overcooked on the grille, then the grille exploded, then the house burnt down around the grille.  He has been horrible and I have no idea what the Colts were thinking committing to him.  I think Wentz, at this point, is actually much better.

Matt Ryan critique aside, getting a pair of 3's for Wentz may look bad 1 year after trading a 1 and a 3, but it was actually a hell of a return when you consider what Wentz is worth.  So that was a pretty nice job unloading him.

To be fair to the ref, from his angle it probably looked like Smith grabbed him

We got that illegal contact penalty later, which was ticky-tac... refs were bit too feisty for my liking.

I think it’s hilarious this is what’s happening after Irsay melted down last year. Well deserved for him.

Howie?

Not saying they grow on trees but Chiefs can just draft the next speedster they find

Was a joke.......

Not sure about Young.

It figures to be an emotional game for Wentz, hero ball 101.  As we have learned in 2018-2020, sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't.  It's unpredictable.  I think we'll get a small sample of heroic Wentz, horrible Wentz, and everything in between.

Yep, I think we get the full range of Wentz from spectacular to ugly.

Colts owner wants to be a contender and doesn't want to wait. Wouldn't surprise me if Frank is fired if they don't make the playoffs

They unloaded Wentz without a plan in place. Irsay hated him for whatever reason. I guess it was the antivax combined with poor performances in the final two games.

But yeah Ryan is cooked and they did nothing to surround him with talent this offseason. When the two best players on offense are a RB and guard you still could score 0 points…

I'll admit I did wonder ever so slightly if Ryan would have a resurgence year, but yeah no. They'll have to double down for a QB in the draft for sure but that's another year wasted for them.

Well bringing in a 38 year old QB and not upgrading your WRs is not a good plan.

Tbh the falcons really made out well in all of it by not getting watson and being involved they got rid of Ryan too.  Still think the falcons should just roll with ridder. See what the heck he is cause mariota isn’t their future.

Wentz is better than Ryan at this stage; it was pretty obvious at the time.  Owner went off his meds and meddled where he shouldn't have.

It's not a 'pretty nice job unloading' your starting QB if you bring in someone who is crappier, and will surely lead to the head coach being fired after the season.  The GM will be lucky to survive, considering how bad their year might turn out.  They were getting blown out by the Texans through 3 quarters before the Texans went Texans, and they got blown out for 60 minutes against the Jaguars.  What will decent teams do to them??

Nothing would please me more than to see Hurts make a legitimate run at MVP.  He just had his best game as a QB for the team.  He needs to do have that type of performance for almost all of the remaining games to be in that type of race legitimately.

not saying he is, or isnt, the guy of the future, but Mariota hasnt looked bad and is only 27? 28?

I'd be ok with giving him a year if i were ATL and seeing where everything went

Atlanta’s offense was much better in week 1 than week 2. They got down 28-3 (joke writes itself). Then they had a safety and a blocked punt for a touchdown. The offense only scored 18 in week 2 and mariota had a really brutal pick in that rams game. Looking at Atlanta’s schedule the next 7 weeks carolina and seattle are really the two games i can see them winning. If they lose both of those there’s a chance they are 0-9

Falcons fell ass backwards into it though. I can't give them too much credit for that.

Oh for sure they did. But it wound up working out for them in the end.

If he is going to be legitimately in the race, he's going to have to up his stats. He's on pace for 33 TD's (mostly running). Allen is on pace for 68.

Tua on pace for 59

They got lucky Watson chose CLE, and they ate $40.5M to get rid of Matt Ryan -- which looks like the right move as of now and will look even better when he's off the books for 2023.

All that speed seems to be working out pretty well for Miami, by the way.

I like what McDaniel has done too.  They are going to be a playoff team in the AFC and will be able to compete against the Bills and Chiefs.

I've been a big Hurts defender all year (so far, so good), but no way should we give him 40M per year. The whole point of the offense is having a great OL/Skill position group. You can't have all of that...and an expensive QB. If Hurts wants a middle-class deal (ex: 20M) fine, otherwise he hasn't shown nearly enough to justify that kind of contract. Franchise QBs win without exceptional talent around them.
