The 'style of offense' is absolutely sustainable. Most offenses are sustainable, assuming you have the personnel to execute it, so there's nothing truly revealed in that. But, the hits that Hurts is accumulating are more frequent and of more intensity than the two guys that he was referencing... Jackson and Murray. And there's no way to prove that it is actually sustainable. The Elephant: What happens to Hurts' shoulders by mid-season, late-season after all the accumulated shots to his shoulders from putting his head down to try to run over defenders? How will it affect his throwing motion, if at all, and how will that affect his accuracy, velocity, etc. when it matters more and when the weather is far less conducive to a passing attack? The elephant in the room remains unaddressed by that article. It was a nice article and it had some nice illustrations, but completely glossed over the most important aspect of this whole discussion. You act as if he's putting down his shoulders to run through defenders many times each game. Most of his runs he slides down.

Corollary: that the only way to win is to throw the ball all the time? My point, which you are steadfast in denying, is that there is more than one way to win. The Bills win with defense and Allen playing hero ball. The Eagles are winning in all phases. Well, not special teams, I will admit. Which is more sustainable?

The defenders turn their backs on the QB to run with their assignments. It opened up the field for Hurts. The Jags DEs committed to the RB on read-options, so Hurts kept the ball more than usual. In that horrendous weather, that's the right decision. Neither was an anomaly. It's the design of the offense.

October 5, 20222 yr Many have bemoaned Covey as a punt returner. Not I. I have bemoaned the lack of blocking. Here's the first Jags punt. The four players closest to Covey are all Jags. He has no chance.

I think its no surprise that once inserted as KR, Covey has been able to get out around the 30 while many previous KRs we have tried struggle to get to the 20. KR blocking is not good, but we have had so many returners who inexplicably run directly in to the backs of their blockers. Give Covey a little space, and he can do work. Need to find a way to get him a little space on punts.

Neither was an anomaly. It's the design of the offense. Hurts had 16 recorded runs on Sunday. They are listed below from the official Gamebook. Three were kneel downs. Three were QB sneaks. One was attributed to the early snap by Kelce. So that leaves nine. He ran OB on one scramble. I also know that he went down before contact on the majority of the zone reads. It was really the two plays to get us into the end zone for our first TD that would cause concern.
October 5, 20222 yr If Mailata and Seumalo can’t go Sunday the good news is the cardinals are last in the NFL in sacks.

October 5, 20222 yr Garafolo says Mailata most likely out this week. Geoff Mosher says MRI revealed no structural damage for Mailata’s shoulder. Caplan says Elliott probably out this week. Hinted it was more serious than it looked.

The Eagles roster is pretty evenly spread out and not heavy at one position. I'd argue to get rid of K'Vonn Wallace who continues to be the most invisible player on the team.

The four players closest to Covey are all Jags. He has no chance. That is a very misleading photo. The issue on that punt was that Covey did not field a catchable ball at the twenty-six and instead let the ball roll all the way to the twenty. At that point, rather than simply letting the ball die there, he gathered himself and decided to pick it up and face a barrage of Jaguars defenders who were closing in on him. He gained about one yard. Very very risky decision in wet conditions for the benefit of one stinking yard. Yes, the photo shows him at the moment he faced the barrage, but the real issue on that play happened about two seconds earlier. Also, the gunner for the Jaguars at the top of the screen actually fell down along the sideline so that whole side of the field was clear for Covey at the time he could have fielded the ball in the air.
