Dominguez is the piece they are missing right now.   And he's not right... or he's super pressing.   I lean to the former.

These throws across the infield seem weak... like they are aiming the ball.  Hoskins is doing a lot of stretching for low/short throws.

They gave dominguez extra time too and tried not using him on back to back or even giving him extra days off once coming back. So he is likely just not right at the moment. If we didn’t have Suarez as the 3rd starter I’d have loved to use him out of the pen cause he’s had experience with it and was really effective last year before the moved him into the rotation.

But then you have Falter as the 3rd starter?  Or Syndergaard?

The ump made the call, because the ball beat Harper to the bag, not because he saw the tag.  Where the umpire was, he couldn't see Harper's hand on the bag.  He was in the wrong position.  He's supposed to be inside the infield, not behind the bag there.

The ball beat Harper to the bag, and the glove beat Harper to the bag. The ump was where he was supposed to be. Harper was called out because he was out.

Yeah on the Phillies thread my logic behind getting annother ace, no. 2 or another no. 3 was for the purposes of what i just talked about. I was for making a big splash move or getting someone like a Quintana who had pitched really well. To falter’s credit he’s been good outside of one start over the past month.

Yeah, but a bit unfair to throw him into the fire like that.  Although... sometimes, you do what you have to do.  Rookie Bob Walk started Game 1 of the WS in 1980.

I respectfully disagree.  Missed tag.

Nola has had his ups and downs as a Phillies pitcher but he has been awesome in the 2 biggest games of his life in this last week.

I'm very happy for him and for the team. I hope it continues.

Only need 6 outs from the bullpen now.

Might stick with Alvarado, with someone behind him in the pen.  Is that guy behind him Robertson, and then you can start Eflin with a clean inning in the 9th?  Given his history as a starter, I'd prefer he not inherit trouble.

Yup. Im hoping painter comes up next year and hits. But I’d still love to see us make a splash move to get another front line guy with wheeler and nola. If Bieber becomes available I’d be all on giving up guys besides painter. Bieber has 2 years left of arbitration and the Indians aren’t gonna pay him what he wants. There’s been rumblings about him being dealt this offseason or at the deadline

He was hamels 08 the last two games. Stuff and location was amazing

Need runs this inning, I feel like 2 isn't gonna do it

Well, as I see it, it's a fan watching instant replay on television vs. a fan watching instant replay on television + an ump making the call in real time + a group of umps making a decision based on better instant replay than what's on television. You're entitled to see it how you want to see it, but the result favors the latter.

You got the first part right.

The glove was extended past the bag.  The umpire's vision was blocked to see Harper getting to the bag, and was not in the correct position.  He was supposed to be in the infield to be able to see the slide and the tag.  He couldn't see the bag where he was located, his vision was blocked by the infielder's body.

Bad work by the umpire.   He was out of position.

I would not complain if they got another run or 2 or 5.

Only if the umpire was doing his job correctly.   He was in the wrong spot to make the call.  So, his view was clearly blocked and he made the call based on when the ball arrived, not when he saw the tag.

Really need castellanos, hoskins and schwarber to start hitting. They have 0 hits in two games. we might want to move bohm up in the lineup. He’s hitting too well to be hitting 6th.

I understand your perspective.  You have been very clear.

Next time either of us are officiating a Major League playoff series we should bring this to the MLB's attention.

The rules about how umpires are to be positioned with a 4 man crew are pretty clear.   When there's a runner on first base, the second base umpire is to be positioned in the infield.  The 2nd base umpire is only to move out to the outfield if there's a tough call to be made out there.  The ground ball through the infield didn't make for any kind of difficult call on the play.  He moved out of position for no reason, and wasn't where he was supposed to be.

I don't need to be a MLB umpire to know the rules of how to do it.  It's umpiring 101, actually.  Knowing where to be on every play.  Just as the players have a job to do on each ball put in play, so do the umpires.

Both those pitches were strikes

@LeanMeanGM

First off, glad you and your family are safe and dry.

Both OLs banged up as well as Ks.  That and travel to the west are a concern.

He's missed a few tonight... but he's missed them both ways.  He's been fine back there.

I don't have a side on this but claiming that umps are superior is weak sauce.

They are a protected class that does not have to be competent. Probably 35% of these umps are worse at balls and strikes than college umps.

No one can do anything about it. M:B officials worship is an extreme cold take.

That was a strike, but he's not been calling it tonight.  That same pitch went to Schwarber and was also called a ball.

Gonna find out what kind of stones dominguez has really quick
