He seemed polarizing to the fanbase.  Some loved him, others not so much, but the kid loves football and plays to his strengths.

Glad to have him when he was here.

He was simply the shiniest turd in the WR room in Wentz’s last playoff run.

No one hated him but to say people loved him is a stretch.

Saban likes his cover 7 , NFL teams are copying

Looks like the Athletic agrees with my assessment that the Saints win more games than the Eagles

Mayock was all about due diligence, did his homework, awesome student of the draft classes, but on a Network desk, all he had to do was project.

Buying these guys for real was over his head, I think. Something in his evaluations missing? Translation to NFL rosters?

Always liked his breakdowns but something disconnected when he had to make a pick for keeps.

I always thought he was a film junkie. But that isn’t the same as cultivating relationships with the schools and coaches like regional scouts do. There is more to whether a player will develop than just film study.

How does a team get 0.4 of a win?  Tough one.

PFF tends to be a bit generic.  Too many modifications for this to explain everything. I saw some attempts at Saban’s coverage in what Gannon was doing last year. This is a decent decent explanation of what Saban has been doing.  I saw plenty of situations where Slay was in MEG watching the All 22 (to the extent you could, NFL GamePass was awful last year).  Does NFL Operations call Cover 5 as Cover 2 Man?

I think there were some coverages where Slay was in Man Match coverage and maybe some with Maddox (Maddox didn’t stray from the zone, but also stuck on a receiver).  Do you get The Athletuc? Nguyen has some pretty good columns.

Still a bit simplistic but he was writing an article, not a book.

Nice brief summary of Man, Zone, Zone Match and Man Match.  If I use the terms Zone Match and Man Match, (with a dose of MEG and MOD) does that help you see where I was coming from in my original post?

https://theathletic.com/2275485/2020/12/22/defense-coverages-types-man-zone/

Of course there are reads and assignment tweaks to shells based on a coordinator's scheme and personnel, and it's true that some will use a player like Slay to shadow the other teams best WR with a MEG assignment, but those tend to be far and few between. Bowles does some of this in TB also, but you're not gonna see a cover-3 team like Seattle use man assignments nearly as often. They and many other teams will run plenty of what you call pure zone.

I think the last time we had 4 legit corners was 2003.

Greg Ward isn’t one of your leaders unless you’re the Jags or Texans

Scott/Blankenship for me. Wallace can go.

Was just reading that. I may be in the minority, but I like Baker Mayfield.

Despite being an inadequate qb, I think he does a really nice job with his commercials.  Some athletes are funny in that setting (Manning, Mayfield), others are stiff (Brady, Mahomes, Rodgers).

Greg Ward is 27.  He’s as good right now as he ever has been.

The answer to the debate of whether or not he belongs on an nfl roster is about to be revealed.

You guys are going to flip when Ward is back on the team at some point this season

Greg Ward was a leader on this team for three seasons and he helped get this team to the playoffs in two of those three seasons.  Greg Ward was a winner.  Greg Ward was a champion.  He was on the practice squad during their Super Bowl run.

This evaluation of Greg Ward at least sheds some light and consistency on the Hurts opinion.

Cuts I like

Devon Kennard- backup to Reddick

Jesse Luketa- backup to Reddick

WR- Charleston Rambo- upgrade WR5

Joe Reed- ok WR who offers return ability

Reggie Roberson- the SMU WR before anyone knew about Danny Gray. Roberson has had a few bad injuries, but maintained a lot of speed. Since Reagor was only ever meant to be a deep threat, Roberson is better.

Lynn Bowden- obvious

McTelvin Agim (if you can sneak him on PS, may be a decent depth piece if we let Hargrave go after this season)

Haskell Garrett- same as Agim

Raequan Williams- seemed to be coming along at DT for us. Might not be bad to bring back.

TY McGill- did come along here. playable at DT.

Marlon Mack

D'Vonte Price

Sony Michel

ZaQuandre White- real tough runner

Kenyan Drake- did he sign yet?

Abram Smith- tough runner and kick returner

Max Borgi

Anthony McFarland Jr- nice, very fast RB prospect from Maryland.

Master Teague- strong runner

Patrick Laird- poor mans Christian McCaffery. Has played well win given opportunity.

Yusuf Corker- PS to hopefully replace Wallace next year as depth

Varone McKinley- same as Corker

Bubba Bolden- same as the other two safeties

Tariq Castro-Fields- PSU DB. Better player than Goodrich or possibly even Gowan. Get him on the PS. So many nickels on this team. Need more outside depth for when Slay is done and if Bradberry leaves.

Nate Sudfeld- would be solid QB 3

Not for us but TE Gerrit Prince seemed to have a strong pre-season. Surprised to see him cut from a bad team.

Guess I missed on Fields, or Mufasa as Chipper called him doesn’t have time to teach tackling.  He missed a bunch at Penn St, and he kept it going in preseason against the Vikings, but I can’t remember a CB with longer strides that could still cover some of the quicker WR’s.
If San Fran’s training camp was anything like the Eagles he didn’t get much of a chance, dude is a willing tackler, it just looks like a forward pass from Hurts, ugly and doesn’t make sense.

My nephew is getting married next month in Jasper and I'll be playing my last golf round of the year the following morning.  My golf game was bad this year; just never made enough time to get out more than 5-6 times.

If I can shoot in the 80s I'll put my clubs away for the season in a good mood -- but I don't like my chances.  At least I'll get some good mountain views:

Tell your nephew that my invitation hasn’t arrived yet. Likely the US mail.
