As much as I would love Hunt, Howard makes sense compensation wise and he knows the team. But Hunt gives you pass catching as well.

There would be no compensation since he is on NO's practice squad (but perhaps that is what you meant).

Last I read was the market for Hunt has collapsed and the Browns are now asking for a conditional 5th.  If the Bengals win tonight, there might be a fire sale in Cleveland tomorrow.

Dude - you can't believe what you read vis a vis trade rumors

They only had 5 draft picks this past draft and are down to 6 for 2023. If they give up a 5th for Hunt, then they are down to 5 picks. I don't think they are re-signing Sanders, and I think Hunts contract is up after this season. So they will need to burn the 5th rounder and will need to use a higher pick on a RB in the 2023 draft.

Sometimes you can.

The RB market is incredibly soft. We know they wanted a 4th but that's not happening and the deadline is 4 pm tomorrow.  The Browns just want to get something for him because he's walking at the end of the season and remember, Jacksonville sent James Robinson to the Jets for a conditional 6th. A conditional 5th would seem to be right in the strike zone for Hunt at this point.

IMO, that's what we're missing. Sanders is excellent, but he does not wear down defenses. We need a big back to compliment him. Trust me, this is what's going to make all the difference at playoff time. You can best believe Dallas will give a heavy doses of Zeke and Pollard when we play them on 12/24. We'll need to do the same.

Zeke and Pollard sounds like a rare disease you might get from a flesh-eating fungus

Oh noes, I caught a dose of Zeke and Pollard, in six months I will have no face and only half a testicle

It would have to be a 2024 5th since we have no picks in rounds 4-6 in 2023 (our 4th went to Chicago [Quinn], our 5th to New Orleans [CJGJ], and our 6th to Jacksonville [Josiah Scott]).

Not a bad way to use those picks though hey... I mean even Scott has played and contributed.

I was referring to the rapidly dropping asking price by the Browns in response to the post about trade rumors, not necessarily that the Eagles should make a move for him.

Actually, I'm of a different mindset  - I don't think the Eagles should trade anything for a running back at this point in the game. Hell, Trey Sermon is already in the RB room and he can't get on the field despite being a big, powerful back who played at elite programs in college.  And as previously mentioned, Jordan Howard (and all the Jordan Howards) are available for nothing.

I'm of the same mindset as you ... I also don't think we should trade for a RB (especially for someone like Hunt who is in the final year of his contact so he would be just another half season rental, like Quinn).

Yes, that's what I meant. Hunt requires draft picks. But now seeing they want a 5th. I wouldn't be surprised it's gonna be less when they lose tonight

Has Hunt been spotted at the airport?

Howie will use either the 2nd 1st or one the day 2 day picks to trade back and recoup picks so we get the volume back. Having the NO 1st really allows us to do that and still come up away with premium pick talent

I don’t doubt that but my original comment is in regard to trading a pick now for another player (we obviously can’t trade a pick we don’t yet have).

Him and Larry Fitzgerald are sharing an Uber.

Yes.  Let’s try to remain in the here and now reality as we discuss hypothetical trades that have to be made in (checks notes) the next 20 hours.

Trey Sermon may not be a good player.  I suspect if he were better, he'd see playing time.

Alternate opinion:

After the Quinn trade, I like who we have and I’d like us to keep our picks. Other than trying to predict injuries, will any player we trade a 3rd or 4th or 5th rounder here on out have that dramatic of an impact? Maybe we get Kareem Hunt, but has Miles Sanders been so inadequate that Hunt is necessary?

Ajayi was a complementary talent to Blount, I don’t see Hunt doing a lot of things that Sanders is incapable of. Could we use a big bruiser halfback to get those ugly short yardage runs? Sure, but it’s not as if it’s been sorely missing up until this point. Again, it’s a concern with Sanders or Hurts possibly obtaining injury, but not necessarily because of inability this year.

I think we’re pretty good as we stand.

Maybe not but he’s on the 53 man roster so…

The Eagles would have already cut Sermon and tried to add him to the PS if they didn't feel he was good enough to keep. It's just a numbers game. They want 3 RBs active each game. Sermon was active when Scott was hurt.

Sermon, though, isn't really a "big back." He's almost the same size as Sanders. Sanders is more explosive. Sermon is a little harder to bring down and has one of the best stiff arms in the NFL. I'm pretty sure the Eagles want to keep Sermon protected from other teams right now. Sanders and Scott are due to be FAs after the season.

I don’t disagree but I was responding to @Procus who suggested there might be a talent issue.  And to be clear, @Procus is cool.  I just disagree with his take on RB.

I was just adding to the dialogue. I love to hear myself type.

I still think Josh Jacobs would be a good addition for us..

All good.  Your contributions are appreciated.  I’ve been on this board (and the one before) for 21 years combined so I get it.
