What do you want the guy to bat .500 for the season?

Quite simply, the Braves are just a better team with better players. They deserved to win the division over us. Too many holes in this lineup even with Hoskins healthy. With him out they just aren’t close.

Never led in the series against the Braves

:phil: 💩

Went out with not even a whimper

Now the fitting ending would be for them to also get swept by the Fish and end up at 81-81 to avoid having a winning season.

Their season win total was 81.5, also. Imagine holding an over ticket and watching them lose 7 in a row to end the season.

They’re even missing Acuña and Soroka.

How sad that this is probably the second best team in Philly right now… and who knows what’s going to happen with the Sixers. Pathetic.

I want him to show up for the biggest series of the year. I didn’t expect 0-11 with just under 50% strikeout rate. Like no offense this is like embiid showing up and going 0-20 in game 7. It’s ok to be critical of him when he had a terrible series in the biggest 3 games of the season and the last 10 years for the Phillies. That doesn’t take away the rest of the season but he was awful in that Braves series.

We did it. We finished with a winning record. Bust out the champagne

he was but the other thing is we never really upgraded last offseason, it was pretty much the same players from last year accept for some few pieces to the bullpen it was pretty much the same offensive players, i think if we got a few more pieces i think we probably would have made the playoffs.

I agree on that part. However the division was awful snd Braves were down their best player. I’m guessing the division is better next year and the Phillies have to get at least 2 BP arms, cf, lf, ss and 3b. Likely a starter too. Plus just better quality depth.

I think a lot of people in the media think that Ranger Suarez is a bit more than he actually is right now.

Hopefully he is. Cause gibson has a 5.09 era since coming to the Phillies. So he’s reverted back to his normally crap self after 3.5 months where he was actually useful with the Rangers.

Hopefully he returns to form next season

Meh. I disagree with your comparison. Baseball is a cumulative sport. Sure there are moments of greatness that stand alone but it really is a game of averages, not specific series especially when talking about hitting. He was pretty much the main reason this series even meant anything at all, because of his cumulative performance over the season, not a series or two.

Anyway, it was an interesting season. We’re going in the right direction I think, just taking us a while to get there. It’s clear we need more talent in this lineup.

Having the DH in the NL next season would really help the Phils - and I think it can help you load manage Harper/JT/Hoskins while keeping their bats in the lineup.

They definitely need to add one of the top SS's: Correa, Seager, Story or Semien

If Aranado opts out, I would probably prioritize him over SS, as you still have Didi with 1 year left on his contract and can probably resign Galvis and/or Ronald Torreyes on the cheap until Stott is ready.

Didi, Galvis, and Torreyes are all terrible. Why would we want to have any of them?

Torreyes is fine as an end of the bench utility guy.

Because Stott is one of the top SS prospects in all of baseball and will probably be ready towards the middle/end of 2022...  Plus, Didi is under contract for next year.

If you can sign Aranado, arguably one of the best 2 way 3B in all of baseball, you do it.....

They are all in their 30's and top rated free agents. Scherzer is a bit old around 37.

Do you want Didi with a negative WAR playing regular or Semien with a 3.7 WAR?

Marte has a WAR of 4.7. Otherwise we bring back Odubel?

Freeman is better than Hoskins. Doubt he leaves the Braves, but I'd pay him stupid money.

Do we want to compete? Then we need more talent.

Not enough pitching or hitting on the team. And our defense stinks.

The best way to win in baseball is to draft good players and bring them up through your system.  The Phillies drafted guys like Pat Burrell, Cole Hamels, Jimmy Rollins, and Chase Utley in the late 90s and early 00s and then used those players to build a contender.
