Would be nice to shell him in game 1 - get their bullpen taxed early

@toughfighter83, just enjoy it, man.  We’re in the World Series.

hey listen, if the phillies choke because they can't beat a team that is all-around superior, they don't deserve his fandom.

im sure the phillies are jamming up the phone lines trying to get this salt water taffey dbag back on the bandwagon.

Willy Penn is NOT getting any gear.  We're golden.  Especially if we can get 1 W in Houston.  Can't wait

He’s just in denial.  This is going to be the blueprint for every MLB team going forward.

Lol

I’m the most negative fan on this board,@4for4EaglesNest will confirm, but even I can’t be negative about a thing after this run…even if they lose to the Astros.  Special in every way.  Hope they finish it off.

All of us were negative throughout the year because this year has been a wide range of bad baseball, young kids looking bad, firing girardi, good baseball, harper injury, good baseball, young kids stepping up, killed by the Mets, good baseball, september baseball nearly missing the playoffs and now this. Plus the 10 seasons prior. I said down the stretch i didn’t see them winning more than that cardinals series but maybe just getting into the playoffs with the decade long drought would make them play looser and even if it was only a series they’d win that it gave them some experience going forward and help propel them next year. I actually think with some additions next year this is going to really help them become much more consistent during the regular season. Who knows about postseason cause it’s a crapshoot

But now we figured out if during games we are negative they tend to play better and using it.  Lol

Heard Nola is expected to start game 1

Would make sense.  Nola will already be on 10+ days rest by that point.  Also gives Wheeler an extra day of rest, etc.   (He said he felt that ball hit him "square on" so an extra day for him could help).

For those that are too young.....

Phillies

1976 101-61 1st NL East lost to CIN

1977 101-61 1st NL East lost to LA

1978 90-72 1st NL East lost to LA

1979 84-78-1 4th NL East

Try living that run of crap. It was a brutal few years......

At least 1980 made up for it.:flex:

Has that RTK post been quoted again since this last game?

Personally after this run I don’t see them losing a game next season

Hmm… Nola for game 1. Really hoping it’s just because it would have been his turn in the rotation if they hadn’t clinched. I know wheeler took that ball off the back of his leg in game 5, so hopefully that isn’t causing him any issues.

No, it's cause the manager is over his head at times with the rotation/pen. You start Wheels game 1

I have to find the tweet, but Wheeler is MUCH more effective with an extra day historically.

EDIT: from article

Wheeler is also very good when he gets an extra rest day. Per Seidman, he's "posting a 2.02 ERA in 18 starts [on extra rest this season] compared to a 3.66 ERA in 12 starts on normal rest."

I looked into the home and road splits of both wheeler and nola. So Nola’s home and away splits are closer. He’s got a 3.53 ERA on the road and 3 at home. It’s actually closer except that dbacks game just absolutely killed his road numbers. Meanwhile wheeler is 1.85 ERA at home and 3.84 on the road. So for wheeler he’s much better at home then on the road for the year. I’m fine doing it cause i think wheeler is locked in anyway and getting hit by the ball maybe trying to give him an extra day

That loss in '77 stung the most. I have always thought that was the best team we had in that entire run. One out away from winning in Game 3. Game 4 played in the rain. No one can convince me that the Dodgers had the better team. I agree that they were better in '78.

What really ticked me off was how after we lose three straight series, the f'n Pirates go on to win the World Series the next year. Super annoying.

Be like gritty

I read that, but I'd risk it having your ace for game 1 considering the Phillies stats for game 2 in the playoffs. He's also dialed in as the ace and JV hasn't ever won a WS game from what I saw on MLB TV today.

Yep, a great run and a loved team BUT they disappointed us for several years until Pete came to town.

Yep, that "We are family" year.  I got so fricking sick of that song due to the Pirates.  They were the closest thing to our Met rivalry back then.

Lol.... yes....Growing up..... I would hate getting Pirates or Reds trading cards...... sometimes I would toss them.

My grandad was from Altoona and a huge Pirate fan. He somehow turned my little brother into one as well so we had two of those knuckleheads around.
