I understand what you are saying, I guess what I mean is just because they hit Nola and Wheeler doesn't then mean they are going to score an additional 5 runs on top of that against Syndergaard. Just too many variables in baseball, this stuff always happens where you have aces giving runs or random rookies pitching 7 scoreless, just the nature of the game sometimes.

The point is, the Phillies have to score a lot of runs to win this series in my opinion, and then the bullpen has to shut the astros down many times. We all knew it would be an uphill battle, but I think it's certainly possible with this team.

Wheeler and Nola's starts have almost nothing to do with what happens the next 5 games. It's 1-1 and it really doesn't matter much how we got to this point.

our bullpen has done a spectacular job keeping the Astros from being able to put runs on the board. But I think you are tempting fate by asking our bullpen to get 12-18 outs each game vs. the Astros. The Astros tend to get better the more and more they see of your guys. And the question is the next two games is how many innings are you getting from syndergaard and Suárez? Not sure. We’ve seen syndergaard look solid in the one start vs. the Braves but they pulled him second time through the lineup. Also slightly concerning is that Thomson said after game 1 he was gonna ask Suárez how he feels before game two to determine what day he would go. By that he meant if he felt normal/good then he’d be game 3 and if his arm was a little sore from coming in during game 1 then they’d push him back to game 4. so for me that is a little bit concerning that it was his side day, he came out of 1 inning relief and he didn’t feel as good as he usually does.

syndergaard might surprise us and do really well there’s also the fact the Phillies are gonna have to be able to hit McCullers and Javier then get to their bullpen. Right now verlander has a 7.20 era for the Astros. Every other starter combined is below 2 era. So need syndergaard and Suárez to be on top of their game cause runs might be hard to come by. Not sure we can ask the bullpen for 4 consecutive games vs. the Astros to try and give us 12-15 outs and just expect them to not eventually give up something.

also Phillies can’t keep falling behind by multiple runs in games. puts pressure on the lineup to have to score and pressure on our pitchers to basically have to be perfect to keep them in the game until they do. phillies have had the lead for just 1 out of 19 innings. Not sure that’s sustainable to winning this series. I’d like to see us play with the lead and put some pressure on the Astros to see how they respond.

The Astros hit around our top 2 starters….it may get ugly against Syndergaard and Ranger

Both Nola and Wheeler didn’t have their stuff. Nola was better earlier on and then lost it. Wheeler was bad right from the start. It’s a small sample size with Noah but he pitched well. Suarez has been really good in starts and relieve. I have confidence in them. Alvarado and Sir Anthony are fresh too. Hoskins, Shwarber and Harper are due for some doubles and homers.

You can save a lot of time by just saying it’s over, because it is.  No chance the Astros score less than 5 runs the next 2 games.  They absolutely need to add another 2 or 3 type pitcher in the offseason

Rodon makes a lot of sense. They were tied to him at the deadline. He’s a lefty that you can put between nola and Wheeler to split them up and his stuff is close to ace like. Would allow for you to go Wheeler (righty), rodon (lefty), nola (righty), Suárez (lefty) and painter (righty). Also can use painter and Suárez out of the pen for the playoffs in short series which is a nice boost

I really think that line drive Wheeler took to the leg in his last start was bothering him. Sore leg means less strength, and lost velocity on the FB (he was down about 3mph I believe).

Hopefully he is right for game 6. Unless the Phils just sweep them at home.

Houston 6 Phillies 2

Top of the lineup doesn't get a hit all night.

Apparantly he's a giant Harper fan and named his dog after him lol

Hopefully they come to their senses and postpone the game. Zero reason weather should interfere with a World Series game.

Agreed.  Looks like the heaviest rain will be during the game (8-11) so postponing it makes a lot of sense

I’m wondering if we are having 5 straight days of baseball and no off day if it goes 6 and 7

So they can give up 10 runs again? F that.  Send Thor in 4 and Efflin in 5

If we get beat so be it but I’d rather have our best guys out there

Yup.  The suspension of the last game of 2008 series killed the vibe and was arguably done when the game was tied under crap fielding conditions by design

Lol it’s a long shot regardless.  The Astros are better in every way

Yeah, but if they win game 3 they have a shot.
