They were already behind when the season started. Montgomery signed the day before the season started which is ridiculous it went that far. When it was obvious neither were getting a mega deal they should’ve just signed in January and before ST. I think Montgomery turns it around at some point. Before his last two starts over his previous 4 he looked like his previous form (around 4.00 ERA). Had also given up 3 runs or less 5 of 7 starts (one was vs. dodgers). Last two he has gotten shelled and his era has been 21.00. It looks like he’s hit a wall probably cause he basically didn’t have a spring training and just jumped into triple A games and having them be his ST. I think the 1 year gamble for dbacks was worth it. If Rodriguez didn’t get hurt and Montgomery is what he has been the last 3 years, that rotation would’ve been nasty. Frankly watching the dbacks out here, they are going through what the 2023 Phillies went through. Inconsistent offense and bullpen. Gallen and Kelly have been really good though. Doesn’t help that Eduardo Rodriguez hasn’t pitched this year with a shoulder strain.
June 9, 20241 yr Great to see Ragner pitch pretty well yesterday. Not his best game but after the injury it was key to just get back out there and make positive things happen. Also, good to see the bats wake up a bit.
June 9, 20241 yr Wow did the Phillies finally put that stupid ad on their sleeve? Bring back the numbers please. Watching Walker pitch at 7am on a Sunday, this dude better pitch a shutout so help me

June 9, 20241 yr Not good. Phils should be up big with 2 bases loaded opportunities so far and only get 1 run out of those. Only up 3-0 when it could be 6 or 7
June 9, 20241 yr Maybe i shouldn’t watch walker starts. I just woke up (7 am start time here) and see he’s doing well. I’ll make sure to not watch his starts and maybe he’ll continue to pitch well

(I’d add gallen is also hurt right now, didn’t even make it out of the first in his last start). Eduardo Rodriguez has had 0 starts. The rest of their starts haven’t been good. Pfaadt who shut the Phillies down has been bad. Cecconi has been bad. Had walston started twice and looked solid then got hurt. sewald, Thompson and Martinez in the pen have been good. Rest super inconsistent. Even ginkel who was unhittable in the postseason. theyve had inconsistent hitting, bullpen and injuries with starters. Frankly if gallen is out for an extended period of time (hammy and was put on 15 day IL— feels like he might be on there longer than 15 days cause they could’ve just gone with 10 like the Phillies did with marsh) they are in trouble cause the only guys they have left from their starting rotation before thre year is Montgomery and pfaadt
