And there it is. Bryce going 1-30 with the game ending DP.  2-9 with RISP. the Phillies go 1-5 on the home stand with a 10 game west coast road trip.

This is going to be really painful

I really thought the phony HOFer would come through

I mean they can pay me a fraction of what they're paying Harper to suck complete ass.

@Captain F needs to change the motherf'ing name of this thread....ever since the "they are good" was added to it, they've sucked donkey balls!!

Like I said... this is a phase of the season.  It will pass.   This was the best team at home in MLB, by a significantly wide margin.   Even with a 1-5 homestand, they are still +17.   Cleveland just passed them at +18, KC & LAD are +14, and Atl & Mil are +11.   Phillies had been +21 going into this homestand.

The long and the short of it is... this isn't the Phillies.   There are a handful of guys that are all slumping at the same time, and it looks ugly.   Baseball is a really long season.  If they keep this up through August, then its time to get desperate.

They keep this up through the 10 game road trip there’s a chance they get back to Philly and the lead is down to 2-3. Braves depending on the outcome today are either gonna be back 7.5 or 6.5 games and they got the marlins for 4 games coming up

If they go on this road trip and are 2-8 or 3-7 you should start to worry. It would be nearly 2.5-3 months at that point where you’ve been average to below average. They currently are 28-29 in their last 57 games (Rockies series when they began to have lapses and have these inconsistencies). Thats over a 1/3 of the season. By the time they get done that road trip it will be 67 games since they started 37-14. Thats 42% of the season. the schedule isn’t much easier for the rest of the month when they get back outside of the marlins for 2 and the Nats for 3.

i think they are better than this. However I’m willing to also say they aren’t nearly as good as what their 37-14 record was either.

Winning the division is nice and all, but it really doesn't matter.  They didn't win it in 2022, and got to the WS.  They didn't in 2023 (nor did the D-backs) and they got to the NLCS, and the D-backs went to the WS.

What they do in October is what will define this season... not July or August.

Problem is it's the same team that couldn't hit both those years and the same manager who sucks at situational awareness when it counts. They aren't winning crap because you can't do so depending on the HR and that's all they have.

And folks can feel free to freak out about it.   I'm going to pass on that reaction.    Very few teams in the last two years can complain about how their bats went ice cold in the WS and LCS in consecutive years.  The Braves are dealing with the disappointment of their bats going cold against the Phillies, the Dodgers about choking in the DS in back to back years.

I think the field of WC teams is going to be much better than the marlins last year. Dbacks are about to get merril Kelly and Eduardo Rodriguez back. They’ve been treading water til they did and frankly they know they can beat you cause they did last year. The padres are hot right now but they’ve always had talented rosters and their bullpen might be top 3 which will very much help them. The Phillies beat them up in April when they were a disaster. And frankly we got super fortunate to win 2 of 3 in June against them. We really played poorly in two of those 3 games but managed to win one. Really you better hope you don’t wind up facing those two or even Pittsburgh who’s got the staff to upset you in a 3 game series. you might have to go on the road to play those teams if they continue to play like they have and you wind up in a race with them. And you haven’t played well in AZ for much of the last 6 years. benefits of winning the division is you likely avoid a 3 game series with dbacks, padres  or pirates.

i think the NL WC field is going to be much better than year’s past so avoiding short 3 game series is pretty vital.  Also if the Phillies falter enough to lose the division it tells me they aren’t playing good baseball going into the playoffs. At least last year and the year before they were hot much of the second half of the season. Not going into it playing poorly enough to blow a double digit lead

3-9 yikes

Or you can accept that history repeats itself vs calling it freaking out. It's who they are. You are watching the exact reason they lost the last two years. They haven't changed at all at the plate.

And who they are is a top 4 team in MLB.  🤷‍♂️

I’d love to know if the Phillies blow an 11 game lead at one point, how many teams have blown that type of lead in the division but managed to go on an win the WS? I’m guessing it’s not often.

Which means absolutely nothing. See the Braves last year, but that's a deflection away from history repeats itself, and the same issues that cost them are still there. Sure, they can get hot, hit a ton of HR, and win some games in the playoffs, but that cools off in 7 game series, and you have to advance runners and bring them home. They are horrible at that.

No deflection at all.  If history repeats itself, the Phillies remain better than the Braves... and we will get to enjoy the baseball season (or be pissed off about it, if you prefer) until the LCS or WS (aka, top 4 team in MLB).  There are a lot of teams that would like to experience that.  Its not the ultimate prize, obviously, but only one team ever gets to experience that each year.   I choose to enjoy the ride until it ends.

Is there a perfect team in MLB that I'm not aware of?  Each team has flaws and something that could tank their season in the end.  The Phillies are not unique in that.

Let's cross that bridge when it comes rather than try to speak it into existence.

To each their own. I couldn't care less about watching a team win games knowing the outcome that is coming. Been there done that the last two. It's honestly worst now.

I look at it this way just cause you have a top 4 record doesn’t mean that’s what you are now. They had the best record 3 days ago didn’t mean they were the best

they had the best team and record after 51 games at 37-14

since they went on that Rockies and giants road trip they are 28-29. That’s 17th best over that time. And it’s more than a third of the season.

since London series they are 21-24 which is the 21st best record in baseball.

since dodgers series they are 4-11 which is the worst in baseball besides the white Sox.

they are trending with each passing week to be getting worse. Ultimately I think they turn it around. But the 2022 Mets who were cruising. Hit the skids, blew a big lead and lost the division to Atlanta and got themselves stabilized but they never really recovered. Why padres beat them.

They will get hot and hit some HR again, and people will get excited, but we've been close for two years, so the excitement about just winning games is gone. It's all or nothing now, and they haven't changed, and we know what is coming. They will smash the ball and win games while still having issues with RISP. A good pitcher in the playoffs will dry that up and they will lose. Why they can't start doing the little things to improve that with all the talent they have is beyond me. It's a coaching and approach issue to me.

Yeah.... I get that.  I didn't watch the end of the basketball season for similar reasons.

But, as I've gotten older I've also started to focus on the journey and not just the destination.  Life is too short to get pissed off about a sports team.

That's in my DNA being from Philly.

I've enjoyed many a steak dinner at restaurants in my life... and each time I knew at the end of it there was a big bill coming at the end.  And, I didn't let the knowledge of the big check at the end diminish my enjoyment of the steak while it was there to be enjoyed.

Braves 6.5 back. Next 17 games: 4 vs. marlins, 3 vs. brewers, 3 at Rockies, 4 at giants and 3 at angels

Phillies: 3 at Seattle, 3 at dodgers, 4 at dbacks, 2 vs. marlins and 4 vs. nats

id bet it’s within 2-3 games by the time they face each other in Atlanta August 20
