Currently we don’t have a starter for Saturday. God help us if it’s a velasquez or bullpen game with Suarez starting

I don’t mind Suarez.  Guy is solid no matter what role he’s in.  Vinny would be a disaster

I would be fine with Suarez if Joe will let him go 5 innings or so. The 3 inning nonsense isn't going to cut it.

Vinny's on the IL right now anyway

Thankfully we have gibson on the mound

Lot of built-in pressure for a pitcher named Gibson...

Gibson is going to need to eat innings tonight to save as much of the BP for Saturday with Ranger starting and being limited to innings.

Would be nice if they continue to hit like they did down in DC.  But this O blows hot and cold and on the turn of a friggin dime.

Hoskins not in the lineup.  Smart!

Exactly, don’t have the goal the Phillies winning anything and you won’t be let down.

Gotta love biggest game the Phillies had in a while and rhys has a sore groin and can’t play.

That was huge to get the double play with the bases loaded. Hopefully my theory holds where bases loaded 1 out or less and don’t score the next half inning your opponent scores 75% of the time.

well dang

Gibson helps himself with an RBI single, after Jankowski Ks looking with a duck on the pond at 3rd at no outs.  He's at 88 pitches through 5 IPs so might only make it 1 more inning.  Eh, giving 3 IPs to this BP in a tight game is not a pleasing proposition.

Oh great neris against the Mets that usually ends up going well.....

Phillies 2

mets 1

phillies errors 3

F-ing Bohm.  I didn’t think we could see a worse fielder than Hoskins. But here we are.

Segura saved his sorry ass.

You’re batting a 1.000 lately.  😀

I’m trying to be negative so it goes the other way. If i start being positive with them i fear they’ll revert back

Yeah he’s having arguably his best stretch as a phillie. If his RBI total was higher more people around baseball would be talking about his season. It’s pretty amazing that he has 19 homers and i think 15-16 are solo

Phillies magic number is 52

So is this run real or just a mirage against a sheety division?

Mirage. They don't have enough pitching depth, both in the rotation and bullpen, to sustain anything. They also have inconsistent hitters, so you never know what you're going to get with the offense. Right now, Harper is on a hot streak. But the inevitable slump where he goes 7 for 40 with 20 strikeouts is coming. And when that happens, they won't be winning too many games.

Yeah, they might win 85 games. But they're just as likely to win only 77.

I'll still root for them, but my expectations are not especially high.

Given my time difference and lack of free tv options I only get to see a couple games a year typically.  I do check the box score pretty much everyday and keep track of the standings and I'll read the recap of many games.  Still not the same as watching/listening obviously and I can't really get a good feel.  I'll only break down and buy an MLB package if they are seriously in the hunt.  Maybe I'll buy a month or something in Sept if they keep this up.

I tend to agree with Franklin cause their starting pitching isn’t very good. Wheeler has been good. Gibson so far here has been good. Everyone else has been inconsistent or just bad. Velasquez stinks. Nola is up and down depending on the start. Chase Anderson you really don’t know what you are going to get. Suarez they need to build up over the next couple weeks to get more than just 3 innings out of his starts. The bullpen has been better as of late but really it’s eggshells when guys like Alvarado and neris get into the game. And then the defense has and continues to be bad. 3 errors last night but managed to overcome it. The bats like Franklin said hot and cold depending on the series. Harper is in a zone right now. How long he stays in it will dictate whether the Phillies will keep up this current pace.

the biggest thing in the Phillies favor is their schedule. They have the easiest schedule in baseball the rest of the way. Really after this stretch of 16 games the last 36 games of the year are ridiculously easy. Only play 9 games against winning teams (brewers for 3, Mets for 3 and Braves for 3). In those last 36 games if they want to win the division and make the playoffs should go something close to 24-12 in that stretch.

Harper seems to get hot for 4-6 weeks each year.
