If Walker keeps pitching well Ranger could go to the pen.

Marsh sucks,  though. Bring up the kid. How much worse could he be?

They won’t bring up Crawford until he has some time in triple A and til he can’t accrue a full season so they basically get an extra year

Great start to the season.

One thing though…

Maybe I’m too old school.  This has fallen out of favor, so I assume there are some convincing analytics that suggest not to do it.

I don’t like having a "highest leverage guy,” "high leverage guy,” and a bunch of fluff.

I think relievers benefit from a defined role.  I love having a guy that expects to own the 8th inning, a guy that expects to close leads in the 9th.  Have your middle relief guys that expect to give you an inning in the middle of the game.

Know your role, embrace it, own it.

Also…I have questions about Ranger Suarez.  If feels like everyone…fans, media, even coaches are constantly projecting him at the back of the rotation and into the bullpen.

I understand that he is not a model of reliable health and that his stuff is not necessarily electric.  But this is a guy with a career 3.42 ERA who was an all star last year.  He constantly saves his best for the playoffs, where he has an absurd 1.43 ERA and 1.035 WHIP in 8 starts and always demonstrates flawless composure.

Shouldn’t he be set it and forget it in the middle of the rotation when healthy?

You can’t do anything without your back. He’s had recurring problems with his back now. They are going to take their time with him it’s a long season

If Suarez can give us half of the year again and make it the 2nd half this year it would be great.

As currently constructed, I’d put Ranger in the pen, and then bring up Painter in June to offset Walker in the rotation. The bullpen is just too thin of depth right now. Romano, while early, looks incredibly shaky.

I said something similar during the offseason. However i see painter coming to the team in July so they can maximize his innings. In a playoff scenario you don’t need Ranger as the starter as you have wheeler, Sanchez, luzardo and nola. Can use him if someone gets into trouble early or at the back of the bullpen as your LHP. I still think he’s a starter til painter comes up.

Sosa is hot? Robby T is like let's bench him and end that nonsense.

In fairness Turner is hitting .313 and Stott .286. So they’d have to bench Kepler to play him in the OF which they should do. I’d say marsh but Sosa can’t play CF

Nola doing Nola things. Legit could be our worst starter once painter comes up

Nola is an overpaid bum

Resigning him was a big mistake

His contract years 5-7 is going to be a $25 mil anchor. Frankly if painter, luzardo and Sanchez are great this year up to the deadline, i might consider trading him at the deadline. just having Ranger and painter finish the year and cash out on a team that needs a front line starter and get some bullpen help or maybe a starting CF. Clears money to extend luzardo. Next year bring up someone like Seth Johnson who is more developed and mature and chance he can be a solid 5th

What is there to consider? Trade him.

I didn’t mind re-signing him. I hated that they went 7 years. Ridiculous he got 7. It should’ve been a 5 year contract or let him walk. The last 3 years of that deal are likely a $25 anchor. It’s why I’d think about dealing him at the deadline if painter, Sanchez and luzardo are going well. Use the money you save to extend luzardo and just use Seth Johnson as your 5th in 2026

Issue is if luzardo, Sanchez and painter tail off then you are in a bind. Gonna have to then rely on Ranger to stay healthy and Walker. It’s why if those guys stay healthy and deliver then you can make the move and just go with Ranger. You’d probably get some nice prospects and maybe a MLB ready RP.

He needs to go if only to get that contract off the books

Tbh i think Sanchez was given his deal cause they knew they weren’t extending Ranger. But luzardo is going to need a massive extension if he pitches this well. Technically wheeler at the end of 2026 has 1 year left so I’m guessing they view luzardo as wheeler’s replacement

Marsh sucks

Sasaki hasn’t been able to find the zone his previous games. So naturally everyone begins swinging at things out of the zone

Good news

I would assume Nola has a no trade clause, no?

wtf is Stott doing with that base running?

Every year this team has base running blunders. Stott just cost his team a run.
