April 8, 20214 yr In defense of our criminal justice system.. the goal here is to make the conviction airtight. Our justice system puts the onus on the state to prove the case, and gives the benefit of the doubt to the accused. Especially in a case here where a LEO, who tend to get deferential treatment in the courtroom as trusted public servants, stands accused of a heinous crime, the prosecution is going to go out of its way to make sure the trial proceeds carefully, deliberately, and with minimal cause for appeal. The trial should have happened sooner, I don't disagree with that. Hardly a speedy trial. But when you have a crime code that is simply far too bloated, you're going to have a backlog of criminal cases. That's a separate problem. But the reason why this case is proceeding as deliberately as it is is to make it as airtight as possible. Slip up and you might have either a hung jury or give too much for appeal.
