May be an image of 1 person, child and text that says 'Conservative Christians "And all the believers were together and held all things in common. They sold their property and possessions and distributed the money to those according to their needs." -Acts 2:44-45'

They did that among themselves, not by government taxes.

A lot do and are very charitable.

If your point is too many don't follow the Bible well no argument there. But that's not just conservative Christians that's liberal Christians too.

It''s a meme, so there's obviously going to be a generalizeration to some extent. In my experience, though, some of the most selfish and inconsiderate people I've encountered also happened to be hardcore Christians. I think the term "Evangelical Christians" would be more accurate in this case.

I know, I just like countering the memes that seem to suggest Christians should be ok with the government taking more of our money and giving it to others.  Being in the "political" thread and noting conservative specifically made it sound like the typical argument of why don't they want the government taking more money to give to others.

Everyone has their share of experiences with religious people that don't embody the values.  Some people have opposite experiences from you, knowing lots of great religious people who are kind, giving, etc. and then the ones that give them a bad name.  We can do that with lots of groups.  I know plenty of bleeding heart liberals who have bad attitudes, are hypocritical in their values e.g.

You're good; I don't mind being challenged. I just didn't necessarily see it as a taxation thing and more about being charitable and empathetic. I wasn't sure where to post this originally, as it didn't seem particularly political to me. I saw it as more of just a harp on religion, but it seemed like it would fit here better than the other thread. There was a pic that I posted a little while back that made a point along those lines, but I saw it more in terms of Churches being tax exempt, not personal income tax. Either way, I just find it ironic how a lot of biblical precepts and particularly the teachings of Jesus sound an awful lot like Marxism when you read them, lol.

Both liberals and conservatives can pluck things from Jesus' teachings to support their political views.  Jesus wasn't interested in politics (one of the complaints some of his followers had, they wanted him to help rebel against the government).  Jesus was concerned with the heart, how you live your life and showing love and kindness to others, not political causes.

Jesus teachings sound nothing like Marxism. Holy cow. Jesus never taught taking, only giving.

Sure, but at the end of the day, whether it's politics or religion, we're basically just talking about how we view the world and how we think a society should be organized.

Did you read the verse? It talks about living communally and "distributing money according to needs." Face it, Jesus was a hippie communist way before it was cool, lol.

It starts with taking. ‘’From each...’’ are the first words.  Jesus never, ever taught taking, he only taught giving. He would have been horrified by you violent authoritarians.

It's cool, I understand this concept was way too deep for you to understand. Run along, now.

Once again, the political pics thread was humming along quite smoothly until I showed up and made a single post, then it's "Stop the presses! We must have a serious discussion about the implications of this post!" Perfect, I must be doing something right. Let's do it again sometime!

As you've all been so quick to tell me before, "It's just a meme, guys..."

You are what you are. There’s no denying it. You can’t separate the reality from the fictional narrative you’ve bought in to.

Speaking of violent authoritarians, how do you feel about meandering?
