The Labour Party is pretty far to the left of US Dems. I'd guess they took back control because the Conservatives have been in power for the last 14 years. That said, the Dems have gotten rid of a ton of the extremists in their party of late. Even in this primary cycle, they've tossed a lot to the curb. The Republicans on the other hand have only gotten more extreme.
