They couldn't get out of their own way. Actually met with the president of the A's a few times when they were trying to get a stadium deal. Smart guy, tried his best. City just was too stupid to make a deal.

I usually stay at the St. Regis or Four Seasons in SF, and they both suggest not going outside after dark. The thing that kills me is that twenty years ago SF was a legitimately great city to visit. I couldn't believe how clean of a city it was (granted that was me coming off of visiting NYC in the 90s, but still).

The city was cleaner back then for sure, and the homeless situation wasn't nearly as bad. It got progressively worse while we lived there, but then going back in 2018 was unreal. I hated living there because of the politics (sometimes I just want to drive home and not be stopped by a protest about how GWB is a war criminal) and the people (it's the land of the 6's). When I go there now, I am legitimately afraid to be out at night. It wasn't like that when I lived there.

More and more people are switching affiliations to independent, which leads to MAGA being more powerful of a voting block, and they do what Trump tells them to do, and he tells them what to do based on who is blowing the most smoke up his a**. McCormick would have wiped the floor with Fetterman, but Oz sucked up more so he got the endorsement. For as much as I can't stand the DNC, their fringe is just loud, and the establishment is pulling the strings. The GOP had their chance to remove Trump from any future consideration back in 2021, but the political powers that be thought Trump would just go away and that an impeachment would damage the GOPs reputation, forgetting that just a few years after the Nixon mess we got twelve years of Reagan and GHWB.

Sure, downtown Palo Alto right near Stanford was ok but it didn't have a soul. Some of the little areas up in the hills were nice but then you'd have to drive down the sheety strip malls for everything. Never once thought about living there. I always stayed at the Fairmont up on the hill in town and then just drove out to the Valley everyday for all the meetings.

A few years ago you'd rarely see trash at the fire pits at a beautiful lake in a national forest. Saturday a bunch of guys in Dodger hats next to us trashed it and left cans and wrappers all over. Trash sells their dump of a house in CA for 1.2 million and move into nice neighborhoods in other states and turn them into crap. I used to have a seasonal campsite, and there were lots of flag waving MAGAs among the campers renting short term spots. They were usually the loudest and rudest campers, the most likely to play softball games like they were Ty Cobb and trash the lake beach side. To be sure plenty of quieter Trump supporters were fine and respectful, especially among the other seasonal folk, but the worst people in the campground every weekend were the flag waving super duty weekend warrior MAGAs. I do think the "California locusts" theme is pretty overstated. It's a convenient narrative without much evidence to support it.

Moved there from NYC so I wasn’t afraid of the homeless, etc. But damn, all my years in Philly and NYC, and this was the first time I’d regularly see people shooting needles in the street. Most of my coworkers were transplants from goober-ish parts of the country, so they’d be like "You’re from NYC? I hear it’s so dirty there.” and it’s like bro, you got people straight up taking dumps on the sidewalk. And as a single straight guy amongst that dating pool…”land of the 6’s” is generous.

And the great part about LA is you can choose to live in places (BH, Bel Air, Brentwood) that are safe and separate. Any of the B's, really.

Stupid like when AOC ran Amazon out of town and thought the community would have millions more to spend now they got rid of the tax credits that were going to go to them?
