Growing up someone broke into my neighbors house, tied the family up, beat them, and then robbed them. Things happened, but not this widespread. I don't recall reading any stories about illegals taking over full apartment buildings with guns in the 1950s and 60s. Our society is becoming more and more violent. We are going to disagree that things were more violent a generation ago. Violent crime is way, way down compared to when you were a kid. It's not even close, dude.

It highlighted one of you freaks being mounted by the security attachment. More to the point the airhead (op) was trying to make, at least half of those viewers for that CNN debacle were looking for internet material. 🤣🤣🤣

Our society is becoming more and more violent. Gangs controlled whole areas of cities in the 50s and 60s. They didn't limit themselves to just apartment buildings, but to city blocks. The 60s and 70s were quite violent. Not to mention the effect the draft into Vietnam had on violence. This coincides with the boomers coming of age. Not specifically dinging the boomers as uniquely violent, but you had a massive generation of people - 2-3x the previous? - in this period starting to compete for their livelihoods at the same time. Violence shouldn't be surprising. Crime, especially amongst and against minorities and the poor, was very underreported compared to today. The one crime that is less likely to be able to be underreported is homicide, and that's down. The 80s were something of a high water mark. The drug trade took a lot of lives, moral panics on the regular. People very much felt things were falling apart then too. This is an era that inspired Billy Joel's We Didn't Start the Fire and gangster rap. Look at the rock music of the 90s, heavily loaded with a feeling of ennui, dread, spiraling, issues of mental health. Violence was accepted as a condition of society in the past. It wasn't focused on like it is now. The violence that does happen now however gets a LOT of media attention. I would much rather walk the streets of most cities at night today than a generation ago. And it's not even close. This is what the media coverage has done. Humans have never been good at assessing risk.

This is to say nothing of the noise signature that @ToastJenkins mentioned. Yeah, because defending your home is just like military close quarters combat. Thanks for your opinion.
August 31, 20241 yr Jack White is blasting former President Trump’s campaign and threatening a lawsuit after an aide to the former president posted a clip that featured a song by The White Stripes. "Oh….Don’t even think about using my music you fascists,” White wrote Thursday on Instagram.

I know LEOs including former chiefs in the area who won't go to the city (Philly) now even though they carry because they feel it's gotten so bad. I don't think the media is influencing them. If you want my polling data, it's two local LEOs, two former chiefs, and a retired trooper in separate conversations. I'd be very happy if you all are right, but those polls don't line up to reality for me. That doesn't mean I'm scared because I'm more worried about cougars on remote hikes than I am violence. My area hasn't gotten to what it was back home yet, but it's trending that way thanks to the Californians who are moving in. I posted the link from the Democrat county DA a week or so ago talking about that. When I moved here, a lady in the department told me she didn't lock her doors. Recently, a local LEO friend of mine told me to lock my gates from the inside so it's harder for people to cut the locks off because of the forced break-ins in the area. Am I safer now than when I moved here? Another friend in the sheriff's department said I wouldn't believe how much is going on with trafficking and gangs in the last few years. Either my friends are lying, or the world is getting darker like it feels. Again, I grew up in the Philly area, so I'm not a babe in the woods. I'm basing my opinion on what's going on not polls or the media.
