Basically in the 90's people were ashamed of their bigoted views, or at least knew those views weren't socially acceptable. Then the internet and social media emboldened them and made them realize they weren't alone. Then Trump normalized it and took racism mainstream. I'm surprised how much I see it in gamer culture.

My brother-in-law works in higher education as a VP of Diversity, and he is African-American. After Trump won in 2016, we were chatting and I told him I was sorry that I didn't realize how many racists are still out there.

I blame the incarceration rate.  Yes minorities are jailed more by ratio but whites get jailed a f'ing shite ton too in the US.  That's where this white power dwelled and reformed and survived and eventually rose again.  The incarceration rate and of course, Mcnabb.
