But most religions have a few basic beliefs that are gonna be the same across every denomination or sect or whatever

Most are just trying their best, and while I have my own beliefs, they are my beliefs. That doesn't mean I'm a "do whatever" person, as some suggested. It's a I'm not here to tell people how to live their lives and I don't want to get into debates with what comes next. After the obvious answer to what makes someone a Christian people love to then follow that up with what a follower would or wouldn't do and essentially throw people at Jesus's feet for Him to stone them as being "fake" Christians. Not interested.
