Kamala gives an on script response that has consistent messaging and avoids making mistakes. These are the words of a candidate who believes this is her race to lose, and she's not going to put anything out there and it's going to cause a negative story in backlash. Trump did not actually answer the question. He gave hand waving responses about "reducing the price of things." He gave no actual policy directive or any sort of hint of a plan or even a concept of a plan on how to do that. The only thing he raised was tariffs which are not going to reduce prices but actually raise prices. So his answer was even worse than an non-answer because the solution they proposed is the exact opposite of what would be needed to bring down the cost of goods and services to the American consumer.
