Last season has directly impacted fan perception of this year’s team. Different year, different team. People just assumed this team is going back to the World Series because they got there last year. Even in the playoffs some of the games they won they didn’t look quite as dynamic as last season. Like last year there was that game they went down 4-0 early vs the Padres and came back and blew them out. There is no chance in hell this year’s team is capable of that. This year’s team never looked as good as last year to me. I always thought they could lose this series. And on top of that, the manager is showing for the second year in a row he has no urgency whatsoever to make any changes or adjustments.

Ive seen and heard so many people say this year’s team is clearly better than last year and I never felt that way at all.

their issue all year has been the same. They aren’t as good with runners in scoring position as the numbers indicate. You look at it and say they’re top 10 because they have a .256 average. But if you watch them enough you know exactly the issue. They’d get red hot for a stretch of like 3-6 games. Then for like a stretch of 7-9 it was likely they couldn’t hit a ball off a t ball stand with RISP. Was a time in the season where bases loaded was like their kryptonite.  They would always come up and get nothing.
 

The biggest issue with this lineup is the fact they don’t have Rhys Hoskins. he hit 292 last year for the score in position. And he had clutch hits for them in the postseason even if his average was low. They don’t have him right now. If they had him he probably be batting behind Bryce Harper and you wouldn’t have Alec Bohm trying to be a cleanup which he has no business being a cleanup hitter. It is a major loss to that lineup to not have him. Even with getting Trea Turner you basically are a lineup that is probably even with 2022 and we knew we needed a major upgrade then and why we went to get trea turned with having the lineup with hoskins  

I would also point out the bullpen. Besides Jeff Hoffman in Alvarado are not very reliable. In the postseason last year, Alvarado in Dominguez were lights out. when brogdon was good for a while. The Phillies thought they fix their depth in the BP when they sign kimbrel and they brought in Soto. But neither one of those guys are good right now. Their bullpen imo is worse even with strahm, Alavardo and Hoffman  

Also nola was much better during the regular season last year then this year. This year he was  phenomenal up until game six. Which, as upset as I am at him, even if he threw a gem, the Phillies weren’t winning this game because couldn’t score more than one run. And after the third inning, it look like they just gave up and assumed they were going to a game seven similarly to game 3 with their at bats. And really at some point in time when you’re pitching that great you’re eventually going to have at least one clunker coming. Happened to wheeler in game 2 of the WS last year. 

I also kind of think Thomson is doing a worse job managing this year. He got to the point he’s too comfortable with his guys and too confident in them instead of seeing them for what they are at this moment in time.  He also change the line up to what it is now when the playoffs started. He should’ve been doing that lineup consistently for months if that’s what he was going with. Because I don’t think Bryson Stott and Alec Bohm are comfortable in those spots nor best suited for the four and five hole. The problem with just going with this lineup is if your guys are comfortable in certain spots in the lineup you need to keep them there especially in the postseason when things can get dicey. Guys now having added pressure in roles they aren’t used too
