Carter is better than JH as a rookie.

Crazy.

Absolutely.

Who is JH?   John Hannah?   John Hancock?   Jimmy Hughes?  Jimmy Hoffa?

It was a big loss and going into this winter their biggest need is a middle of the order bat if Hoskins isn't going to be back. They don't have a cleanup hitter. It's crazy they got this far without one.

It really should be schwarber but they won’t take him out of the leadoff spot. He’s the ideal cleanup hitter as he’s gonna hit a homer with guys on and score you runs. The issue with schwarber at lead off isn’t that he’s leadoff. It’s that they don’t have anyone who consistently hits homers at his rate to bat cleanup right now. One point this year he had 35 homers and like 80% of them were solo. In the 4 hole if harper gets on and/or Turner (far more likely with their career history) it’s a 2 or 3 run bomb.

If they had Rhys then schwarber batting leadoff is not a problem whatsoever cause they have a 28-35 HR type guy batting cleanup that can hit with RISP.

Jalen Carter should bat clean up tonight.  Problem solved.

Unsafe. With his power if the dude connected flush with a baseball it would create nuclear blast impact.

Down the list. But it shows lack of respect for your opponent and it showed on the field with their lack of focus. Thomson has had a brutal series as a manager. And compounding it by being stubborn. I said this over on the Phillies thread, the current lineup they are using, they only used 6 times in the second half of the year and less than 10 for the season. So playoffs start and they decided to go with it. I hate that cause guys like stott and bohm don’t look comfortable where they are. Add on stott on the year is hitting .218 in the 5 holes. You know what his numbers are in 6 and 7? .357 and .353. Bohm wasn’t awful in the 4 hole this year at .253 but he was best utilized in 5 or 7 hole where he hit .277 and .321. Additionally realmuto this series should be batting 4th. He’s destroyed the dbacks in the 13 games they’ve played them this year. He’s hitting .326 (14-43) with 3 hrs and 12 RBIs.

Also I hate when people say it’s panic if you change the lineup. The Fing Phillies change their lineup almost every week throughout the course of the season. So that’s normal. Heck, the Diamondbacks changed it in the course of the series twice. And it helped them. This whole oh, you can’t do it cause of panic is a myth. It’s knowing what’s going on and giving guys who are hitting the most potential at bats not the worst.

The lineup should absolutely be changed. JT should be batting 4th. I'd even consider moving Marsh to 5th, he's been the only consistent hitter this series. But Thompson will never budge, and it's going to potentially cost them.

They have a cleanup hitter. He's just batting leadoff for some reason.

Gonna guess Bills, Chiefs, Ravens, Lions

Travon Walker has been kind of underwhelming in Jax. I wonder if they are in the mix.  I mean he could be a chip to trade back to a team like Washington.

Right, the manager's stubborn ways are going to kill us.  Lineup now should be:

1. Marsh

2. Turner

3. Harper

4. Realmuto

5. Schwarber

6. Bohm

7. Stott

8. Castellanos

9. Rojas

We need to protect Harper and get players on base for Schwarber.

4 - What are his weaknesses?

I would say he has lost a step at this point in his career. He seems to have missed a few plays this season that he probably would have made in years past.

Going back to the TEN well - Denico Autry.

Schwarber at 5 is like having Bohm lead off right now.

Good point

Schwarber doesn't hit nearly as well outside of leadoff though for whatever reason

I think the batting order tonight should be Schwarb, Turner, Realmuto, Harper, Castellanos Marsh, Bohm, Stott, Pache. AZ has a good pitching plan for the current order.  Need to mix it up and get them out of their groove.  And no Kimbrel tonight.

Feeling really good about Desai going forward.  Also with Howie's aggressiveness in addressing the secondary issues.

I will be curious to see if they skip OL/DL next draft and target a CB with their first pick.

They may, but with the Saints pick in mid 2nd rd expect it there then.

You mean he can hit for a worse average than .197?

Thomson deserves a lot of blame if they lose. Team has played sloppy in the first two games in Az. Bad decisions on who to put into games from the pen and situations. However, I do think some of these decisions with the lineup are not entirely in his hands. I think this also goes to the Phillies being an analytical organization. And they look at the numbers in late games and say we want the lineup constructed left, right, left, right left, right for the first six batters. so when it gets into a late game situation you get at least one at bat with a good matchup of lefty vs. right bat and vice versa. The issue is it only works if you have guys hitting at this point. When guys don’t hit it makes no difference lefty or righty.

that said as much blame as Thomson deserves turner and castellanos have been pretty bad lately. Castellanos is 0 for his last 19. And turner is 1 for his last 14. Stott and bohm haven’t been good at the plate but Turner and castellanos might be worse right now. Heck Rojas is having a better series hitting then castellanos.

Does he get credit for getting them to the World Series and on the brink again? Hasn’t happened a lot in previous years.

I don’t love moving marsh up cause when they’ve done it this year he’s reverted back to struggling. I like marsh hitting 8th and setting for turner and harper at the top of the lineup.

it sounds weird, but Realmuto is actually ideal to be a leadoff right now. He can’t hit with runners in scoring position. But when nobody’s on base, he seems to find his way onto base and get hits.

No he doesn't.  That credit goes to Dave Dombrowski.

He’d be getting more credit right now if he didn’t help massively contribute to the Phillies being in a game 7 against an inferior opponent. You’re looking at it as a macro level, if you look at it in a micro level of this particular series he’s has been awful. There’s no defending it. He has been terrible with his bullpen and stubborn. This particular series he’s been a bad manager. There’s no other way around it.

That’s fine, but shouldn’t Dave get some blame if they don’t win?

I’m not a conspiracy theorist and I actually think there’s something psychologically wrong with people who are. Refs aren’t rigging games, George W didn’t blow up the twin towers, and the flag on the moon isn’t in a Hollywood backlot.

Having said that…

Sometimes connecting the dots leads to something more than just plausible: Howie Roseman was never going to put his defending NFC championship team in the hands of Blankenship, Evans, and Edmunds. This move for a safety was always going to happen; maybe it was Budda, maybe it was Simmons, maybe it was waiting out CJGJ. He had the patience and wherewithal to wait until the price went down.

You should also listen to Fran Duffy's pods (Eagle Eye in the Sky).  It has really good film study and doesn't have any stupid side conversations.
