He’s be getting more credit right now if he didn’t help massively contribute to the Phillies being in a game 7 against an inferior opponent. You’re looking at it as a macro level, if you look at as a micro level of this particular series. He has been awful. There’s no defending it. He has been terrible with his bullpen and stubborn. This particular series he’s been a bad manager. There’s no other way around it.

His "managerial" skills did not come into play the first two series because we just destroyed both teams.  As you get deeper into the playoffs and the games become more competitive, that is where his critical decision come into play.  As you said, they can determine the outcome of a close series.

No he doesn't.  That credit goes to Dave Dombrowski.

He deserves some credit. Girardi had the same talent and they look dead and like they weren’t gonna turn it around. But this particular series there’s no defending him. He’s been bad and stubborn when the numbers tell you a change is needed

I would say he has lost a step at this point in his career. He seems to have missed a few plays this season that he probably would have made in years past.

I watched his higlights and I think he's actually faster now.

That’s fine, not saying he doesn’t deserve some. But, when they don’t hit everything looks bad and they still are 1 win away. Plus, they beat a heavily favored team in the previous round.

Whoever goes against the rangers is gonna be worked by Bruce bochy. One of the best to ever do it. Dusty baker is a good manager. But bochy is just flat out better and his demeanor and guidance is why the rangers were able to recover in that series

That’s fine, but shouldn’t Dave get some blame if they don’t win?

I mean maybe a tiny bit since he is part of the front office but the blame, should they lose, should go to Topper, Bohm and Stott.

The crown is heavier when you are the favorite being hunted. It’s much easier to manage when no one expects you to win and playing with nothing to lose type of mentality. Hence the dbacks

He has. His soto trade was a disaster. His deadline moves really didn’t pay off in the playoffs. People wanted another RH bat or a RP at the deadline. Both currently hurting them. The lineup is hard to blame cause losing Rhys a couple days before the season started was a massive loss

Is this NBA or WNBA?

NBA

I don't think they will, but if the Phillies come out and win a 8-2 type game and dominate, they will show that they just lost focus and took AZ lightly.  I would feel much better about the World Series then.  To me, losing game 7 tonight or game 6 in the World Series, its all the same.  I don't care if we get back to the dance only to lose it again.

Agree, I just think DBacks pitching is a little better than you are giving them credit for. Like I said when they don’t hit everything else looks a little worse. Not sure I’d put all the blame on the manager.

I don't really buy into the idea of alternating batters as L-R-L-R-L because of the 3 Batter Rule.  Even if I did, I would set the lineup tonight as:

1.  Stott

2.  Turner

3.  Harper

4.  Realmuto

5.  Schwarber

6.  Bohm

7.  Castellanos

8.  Marsh

9.  Rojas

I've still never seen much that I like in Stott, but he and Turner can both steal bases and pressure a defense, and especially a young pitcher.  Give Harper some protection in the lineup and get Schwarber to the plate with guys on base.

Don't even get me started on the pitching.  Game 7 and we've got a guy starting who won 4 games all year.  In fairness, that's more than his mound opponent tonight.

The dbacks bullpen is better than the Phillies. Mainly cause their back end of the bullpen has been unhittable his postseason. Ginkel and seawald have been fantastic. That said the Phillies have had issues with Risp all postseason. It’s been a reason they struggle if they don’t hit homers. This isn’t exclusive to the dbacks. Game 2 of this series was the outlier for the Phillies. Hit 5-7 with RISP. The other 11 games they’ve played they are hitting .205 (17-83) with Risp. Phillies numbers on the surface during the regular look good. But if you watched the team all year it was skewed cause they’d have these ridiculous numbers for 3-4 games but then like 7-8 games forget how to hit a ball off at t-ball stand

Ok I wasn't sure who JH was.

From now on EMB, when we refer to Joselio Hanson it's simply JH.

I have zero interest in hearing about how great Topper is right now. This team is loaded with talent and Girardi was a Wins Below Replacement manager. Girardi was also a horrible match for these personalities. We know Topper sucks less than Girardi but we don't know that he is great.

He is the only reason this series went past 5 games. Also, Topper did not fix Turner like some great wizard of personalities. Some rando host on WIP fixed Turner.

He might be a good or great manager and time will tell. He got in their way big time by stupidly going back to those 2 pitchers in game 4.

Not talked about enough is why Thomson continues to pitch to marte considering everyone else isn’t killing the Phillies around him

I’m not a conspiracy theorist and I actually think there’s something psychologically wrong with people who are. Refs aren’t rigging games, George W didn’t blow up the twin towers, and the flag on the moon isn’t in a Hollywood backlot.

Having said that…

Sometimes connecting the dots leads to something more than just plausible: Howie Roseman was never going to put his defending NFC championship team in the hands of Blankenship, Evans, and Edmunds. This move for a safety was always going to happen; maybe it was Budda, maybe it was Simmons, maybe it was waiting out CJGJ. He had the patience and wherewithal to wait until the price went down.

I am not sure that he ever stops looking to upgrade weak spots on the roster.  I mean he has signed Roby and Julio Jones since the start of the regular season.  I am not sure that he knew they were going to trade for anyone but he never stops looking for players.  I am sure Byard was on his radar. I don't think they knew when they pivoted away from CJGJ that they had to trade for someone.    They made a decision to re-sign Bradberry when CJGJ's didn't take their offer.  Since then it has been placing $2 bets on the secondary position the exceptions being Ringo and Sidney Brown.  Now since camp ended, I believe they have been looking.  I agree they would have traded for Byard earlier if the Titans were willing to accept this deal.

Wonder if Howie is done making trades. If he adds something else I suspect it'll be CB.

Pitching to Marte last last game with a base open was ridiculous.  Braindead managing.  Send the guy to the open 1st base and make anyone else beat you.

Diamondbacks moved him to leadoff tonight. Smart on their part knowing if they keep getting Carroll at leadoff makes it easier if a decision to pitch around marte having 1 out
