Wonder if Howie is done making trades. If he adds something else I suspect it'll be CB.

That would be silly.

Now that S is taken care of, RB is the position where adding a real player would have the biggest difference. We still don't have a great short-yardage RB.

Diamondbacks moved him to leadoff tonight. Smart on their part knowing if they keep getting Carroll at leadoff makes it easier if a decision to pitch around marte having 1 out

You can do that?

I’m too lazy to read through everything so apologies if this was already posted. This is awesome to see. A breath of fresh air.

As much as we can nitpick having these older, slower DBs...it does allow us to play a ton of different coverages. The most inexperienced player we have in the back 7 (Dean) was one of the smartest college LBs too.

Wish he was coaching the Phillies tonight. Changes and adjustments are great

I don't really buy into the idea of alternating batters as L-R-L-R-L because of the 3 Batter Rule.  Even if I did, I would set the lineup tonight as:

1.  Stott

2.  Turner

3.  Harper

4.  Realmuto

5.  Schwarber

6.  Bohm

7.  Castellanos

8.  Marsh

9.  Rojas

I've still never seen much that I like in Stott, but he and Turner can both steal bases and pressure a defense, and especially a young pitcher.  Give Harper some protection in the lineup and get Schwarber to the plate with guys on base.

Don't even get me started on the pitching.  Game 7 and we've got a guy starting who won 4 games all year.  In fairness, that's more than his mound opponent tonight.

I like it.  I'd make it a bit different because Marsh has one of the most consistent bats right now, but either would work for me.

1.  Schwarber

2.  Turner

3.  Harper

4.  Marsh

5.  Realmuto

6. Castellanos

7.  Stott

8.  Bohm

9.  Rojas

He has a whopping 1 tackle too. What do they think he is giving this team right now? I'd rather see Tarron Jackson platoon with Nolan Smith.

They just traded a 5tth and 6th round pick in this years draft. I can see them using Barnett, Street and possibly Penny as late round pick trade bait to recoup what they used for Byard.

Barnett is a DE.  Smith is an OLB.  There is a difference.  Street and Williams are playing some Big DE in what are sort of three man fronts with a rush LB.  Tarron Jackson struggles with setting the edge and Smith has also struggled with the initially. Barnett doesn’t. Stats for DL are garbage for the most part as they reflect little of what the defensive lineman’s responsibilities are.  Success can be controlling the block and sealing the gap (hole).

So…Derrick Henry?

Not talked about enough is why Thomson continues to pitch to marte considering everyone else isn’t killing the Phillies around him

Cause he isn't a good manager in playoff games that are tight. Go hit HRs is pretty much it. He doesn't play chess or make adjustments.

Howie is fired up

I am not sure that he ever stops looking to upgrade weak spots on the roster.  I mean he has signed Roby and Julio Jones since the start of the regular season.  I am not sure that he knew they were going to trade for anyone but he never stops looking for players.  I am sure Byard was on his radar. I don't think they knew when they pivoted away from CJGJ that they had to trade for someone.    They made a decision to re-sign Bradberry when CJGJ's didn't take their offer.  Since then it has been placing $2 bets on the secondary position the exceptions being Ringo and Sidney Brown.  Now since camp ended, I believe they have been looking.  I agree they would have traded for Byard earlier if the Titans were willing to accept this deal.

I think they wanted to retain CJGJ…just not badly enough to give him exactly what he wanted.  CJGJ is a combustible personality and took it personally; there was no keeping him at that point.

At that point, they looked to Blankenship, Edmunds, Evans, and the draft.  Blankenship hasn’t been able to stay healthy, Edmunds has been bad, Evans has been both underwhelming and injured…and their draft addition (Brown) missed multiple early weeks of formative time in the season.

Howie didn’t expect to strike out on all of the above options, but he did.  (Not calling Blankenship and Brown busts, just acknowledging the simple reality that they cannot be relied on right now).

So a move was necessary.

A few random observations

- Boston Scott just does flashes early this year with the kickoff return, November/December and the Giants are just around the corner

- Couple of silver linings with injuries in both getting the young CBs time and also getting Opeta time

- Dean with 30 snaps and Morrow with 19

- First and 9 should be a hat/shirt

We spent most of last week worried about Tua’s quick release… C2 helps against the short stuff, but typically leaves middle deep open if the DL doesn’t get there.

Also, good against outside zone and jet sweeps… nice choice by Desai.

I think before the game the crowd should give a big standing ovation to each and every player especially Bohm and Rojas knowing fully well this might be the last game of the season. 🙂

I thought Penny could play that role but I he cant seem to see the field.

Someone needs to get the real story of what’s going on with Penny.  Has not a single beat-writer asked or gotten any real information on his situation?

They should show a video of Turner slumping and then the crowd cheering him game. And then while the lights are still off, put spotlights on Bohm, Stott and Castellanos so tonight’s crowd can cheer. Put their names on the monitor and get the crowd chanting their names.

If I could trade for any RB in a realistic scenario, it would be James Connor. Will be fine as a backup to Swift. Costs 3.5M this year and 3.75M next year (no guaranteed money). He's just a smart, tough runner. Also provides RB insurance, should Swift leave in free agency.

Arizona will ask for too much though.

Bold strategy

I think OT is probably the top need on the team but there's an argument for CB being the bigger need.  I don't see them drafting d-line.

DE is a huge need. No guarantee Graham returns, Barnett leaves via free agency, Sweat is a free agent after next season.
