Let's be real. This series was over when Arizona made it 2-2. We're lucky to be in a game 7. You can't win on solo HR alone. If you can't play small ball, you aren't going to win. Add to that their bull pen forgetting how to throw strikes, JT not being able to throw out baserunners all of the sudden and swinging at every and any pitch and you can hand the ticket to the WS to Arizona.

Phillies need to figure a way to deal castellanos. The issue isn’t just he goes into these mega slumps. He slumps and he gives you horrible at bats where it’s 3 or 4 pitches. Even when Rhys goes cold, he gives quality at bats and makes the pitcher work. Professional at bats. The dbacks aren’t a great hitting team but they’ll give quality at bats. The Phillies don’t for stretches of games. Been their identity all year.

1-10 tonight with Risp. For the playoffs they are 23-100. And without game 2 which was the only game they really crushed it with RISP they are .194 (18-93).

A lot of things will be said about Thomson not changing the lineup.. not moving Bohm and Stott out of the 4 and 5 holes... but the only 2 runs have come from Bohm and Stott tonight.    The collapse belongs to all 9.  

 

That said... its not over yet.    They still have 3 outs to work with.   Is it likely?  No.   But... there's still a chance.

I don't know what else to do.

Upgrading the pen is a start.  The pen is icing on the cake.  You don't put major resources into it until the rest of the team is ready...but they are ready.

I think they need to protect themselves against a step back with Wheeler and a Nola departure, but I just don't know where the money will come from.  The prospects aren't going to be ready to help next year.

Rojas is a fun prospect and a great fielder, but a black hole in the lineup isn't acceptable.  There's just no way he saves enough runs in the field to justify it.  I guess he platoons next year, but he needs to earn that spot by hitting.  

It's just hard to time hot streaks well enough to win a WS.  The best team doesn't reliably win in baseball anymore.  Honestly, the only series that went the way it should was us beating the Marlins.  We shouldn't have beaten the Braves and the Dbacks shouldn't have beaten LA or us.  That's baseball I guess.
