So Schwarber 1 for 5, Turner 0-8, Harper 0-7, and Castellanos 0-8 went a combined 1-28 in games 6 and 7 at Home.  Sad performances

Pretty asinine that Thomson preferred a 'bullpen game" in Game 4 and used 8 pitchers in a 6-5 loss instead of giving the ball to a 15-game winner and letting him work.  MLB has changed a whole bunch in the last 25 years -- and NOT for the better.

Thomson is an a-hole when it comes to making pitching decisions in playoff games. It's easy to throw Wheels and Nola out when they are on, but when things don't go well he doesn't have a clue...especially knowing which pen arms are on or off at any given moment. To use one of his best arms on Friday night early instead of going to Walker for a few innings is another example of how he completely crapped the bed and blew the game. He has no business being the manager next year. But but but he got them to the NLCS two years in a row. Great. And how many decisions did he make that cost them games both last year and this year? Many. He needs to be fired.

What in the world does this array of numbers mean?   Looks like a bunch of Madden ratings to me.

PFF grades, so grain of salt and all that, but I do agree with them when it comes to Slay's performance. Now their claim that Edmunds graded out better than Bradberry in coverage, is rather... interesting I guess.

Goodrich is now in number 37. That is a much better number for a player of his quality.

Ah... so it basically is Madden ratings then.   I'll just leave them be and ignore them.   It's worked pretty well for me in the past.    Reminder, PFF has K'Von Wallace as something like a top 10 safety this year... yet he was just CUT by the Cardinals.  Cut, not benched.   PFF is a wonderful capital enterprise.  They have convinced people that their numbers have significance.  Good for them.  But to me, they are about one level above astrology.

Yep.  Slay is fine.  A lot of people don't understand coverage concepts and just blame the defender who is chasing the play down or whoever is closest.  Not always that simple.

I'd like more PDs and INTs from Slay. But he's a fine cover corner still.

Sanchez was fine as the starter. Thomson removing him that early was the bad decision. Sanchez should’ve gotten at least 4-5 innings in that game. But that’s been thomson’s issue all postseason.

It honestly isn’t that asinine to not use walker. when you go look at Walker’s numbers in the first inning. his ERA is 7.04 in the first inning he pitches. He’s good after that. So you’re going to bring in Walker and in the first inning he’s going to give up at least 2-3 runs because that’s what he’s done all year. That’s the problem with using the walker as the starter is that he already puts you in a hole. And out of the pen he’s gonna come in and give the other team a couple runs. His first inning era is over 7. Can’t use a guy like that out of the bullpen. He’s gonna come in and immediately give a runs to the other team. been his problem from his first start all the way until the end of the year and he never fixed the problem.

Yeah Bradberry being by far our worst coverage player Sunday is off. The Hill TD was 100% on Edmunds, and Bradberry was at least decent the rest of the night. He gets weird flak

Gotta be honest, I'm tired of the cryptic and evasive injury update shtick with this team.

It is awesome being on the field. Happened for me against the Cardinals when McNabb broke his ankle. My cousin's wife's father used to drive the injury cart for the Eagles that was shaped like the helmet back in the day so we got to be on the sideline for the whole game. It was amazing. However, my mojo probably made him break his ankle, so...never again.

this one?

Serves no value is disclosing the extent of player injuries. The media keeps asking knowing this is the kind of answer they will always get.

I actually support Thomson on the decision of not using walker out of the bullpen. you know what walker’s first inning ERA is on the year? 7.04. He had that issue from his first start with the Phillies til the last start of the year. I’m not exactly thrilled at the fact that I would have to bring walker out of the bullpen knowing that. Walker wants to know why he wasn’t used out of the pen, it is because he had 6 months to figure out how to pitch in the first inning and he was just as bad from his first start to his last in the first inning. Really hard after 162 games and 6 months when you see Walker being a disaster in the 1st inning all year then just assume in the playoffs he’s going to come in out of the bullpen and be good in the 1st inning when he hasn’t done that all year.

So basically, that is the equivalent of 5 Rojas's in the lineup. What a disgrace to lose to that scrub team.

I thought they cut Goodrich from the practice squad earlier today.

Doesn't make it any less annoying. We have no idea what's wrong with the QB.

No Chiefs reunion, but a Seahawks one instead.

The decision to use Sanchez was inherently flawed because they were never going to use him beyond 3 innings.  They used it as a "bullpen game" instead of using their 4th starter (Walker) as a starter.  I'd argue Walker should have been in the rotation before Ranger, but Ranger didn't hurt them beyond not being used long enough, so that stance is moot.

A playoff team's 4th starter was always used historically in the playoffs as long relief.  If the Phillies wanted to get into goofy analytics then they could have used Sanchez for two innings, then Walker is first up for long relief for the next 4-5 innings.  That solves your first inning high ERA dilemma and saves your bullpen arms.  Analytics, however, does not hold up against significant historical data that proves 1) The more you use your bullpen, the less effective they become, and  2) When Kimbrel starts pitching like Mitch Williams -- sit him the F down for the year.

Not true. Irsay snorts a few lines and gives many updates on twitter.

I’m in the rest Hurts this week for Dallas camp and then get him to the bye.
