Does anyone have an explanation as to why our WRs inexplicably slow down on go routes right as the ball is coming in?

Our WRs are elite but they aren't that fast.

  • Most passing touchdowns by a rookie quarterback (31)[98]
  • Most total touchdowns by a rookie quarterback (36)[99]
  • Most 300-yard passing games by a rookie quarterback (8)[100]
  • Most completions by a rookie quarterback (396)[101]
  • Most games with at least 3 touchdown passes by a rookie (6)[102]
  • Most passing yards in a quarterback's first two seasons (9,350)[103]
  • Most total touchdowns in a quarterback's first two seasons (77)[104]
  • First quarterback to record 30 touchdown passes in each of his first two seasons[105]
  • Most passing yards in a quarterback's first three NFL seasons (14,089)[106]
  • Most completions in first 50 NFL games: (1,316)[107]
  • Most pass attempts per game, career: (40.1)[108]

Besides that!

Great TD catch from Julio today.  I don't think he's got enough juice left to generate more than 6 inches of separation from anyone, but he's someone you trust to get to the right spot and overpower a DB to get the football.  That's not EXACTLY what you want from the slot, but I think they'll make it work in a platoon with him and OZ (and Smith/Brown lining up there sometimes with Jones out wide).

That's not what he asked. This is one of many times the WRs have slowed down and end up on the short end of the pass. The speedy Quez has done it too. Maybe they're not seeing the ball in the air or something. It is weird.

I think they aren't slowing down.  We are seeing the DB gain ground and they just aren't running under the ball.

My soap box for the evening....

In a somewhat chaotic race to a great 7-1 record, the Eagles have had lots of things sputter: Hurts accuracy/reads/turnovers, offensive playcalling, ball security, pass protection, getting individual stars involved in the offense, consistency of pass rush...all of those issues have been very intermittent at worst and have either already improved or have reasonable paths to solutions.

One thing has been a persistent problem almost every week: receivers gaining instant separation to the point that mediocre QB's can play easy pitch and catch into big windows 2 seconds into the play on a short drop.  This is a cornerback problem.  Not scheme.  Not so much safety.  Definitely not pass rush.  It's easy, early, and consistent separation.

And if you want to call BS on it, then why do we face the same offense every weak?  I feel like we play the same team with the same offensive philosophy and playbook every week.  The weakness and the strength of this defense is that glaring and the way to attack it is that objectively obvious.  We worry so much about LB and safety, but I really don't think our big name starting CBs are doing anything we arent getting from the replacement level guys surrounding them.

Against the dolphins DeSai blitzed more than he had in any game and he played a season high cover 2 snaps after having the least amount of cover 2 snaps in the league.

How'd that go?

They held the number 1 scoring offense to 10 points and a season low in yards by half.

So what does Desai do the next week?

Roll out the soft shell zone bend but don't break til the red zone Defense and gives up almost 500 yards and 30+ points to one if the worst scoring offense in the league.

I just don't get it.

Hopefully against Dallas Desai has something up his sleeves and switches up his coverages Instead of playing prevent D like he did the whole game against Washington.

A flaw that is compounded when they slow down on purpose for no apparent reason.

It's the only stat that matters. And the QB is the most important player on that team. If you're such a "game changing" QB you should be better than .500 and it's not like he's had rosters devoid of talent.

And he has a defensive HC who can't coach a defense to play its way out of a paper bag.  Its a team game, a team wins and a team loses.   A QB can only do so much.

Not that I am complaining, cause I'm really not, more that I am flabbergasted by it, how do the 49ers go from outright destroying the Cowboys to getting dogwalked by bad teams the following weeks?  Granted I would like for that trend to continue, it's just amazing to me that it's been happening.

Bengals aren't a bad team. They had a slow start because Burrow was hurt but they are dangerous now.

You know, I was just thinking about that play and how to word my thoughts. That play was exactly what Ertz used to kill teams with. I'm not suggesting Julio Jones is a TE but a good OC, which we don't have, would be finding ways to get Jones lined up in mismatches like that.

He should be a pretty good red zone target down the stretch.

With his size and catch radius Defense have to pay attention to him, he's not a guy anymore that's going to catch a ton of passes and get a bunch of yards but in the red zone he can still be a viable weapon

I don’t know who or where this Bears QB came from but we need more QBs with sleeve tattoos

Nah they are definitely slowing down. Oz did it today. He keeps running he makes the catch. It's like they aren't expecting it to come their way or something and get caught off guard when tracking the ball. Seems like it has happened in every game on a long Hurts pass.

Good news guys, we still have a Thursday night bears vs. panthers matchup and a Sunday night Vikings vs. bears matchup.

We're 3 point favourites over Dallas. Vegas is saying our teams are even.

Not really…not sure the home team is giving 3 points anymore…more like 1.5 - 2

I’m actually surprised cincy vs. niners wasn’t put in the primetime matchup. Potential Super Bowl matchup.

mnf isn’t that great this week either. Lions vs. raiders.

Yup, so many other games today that could have been Sunday night and they giving da bears and chargers🤷‍♂️

Starting to look like a Thursday night schedule.

I hate Thursday night games on principle alone but they've been trash this year.

The league needs scratch Thursday night football.

The OSU overhype machine rubbed off on Fields... and by extension the Bears.   :nonono:

Chip?

Should a 3 year bender count though?

Herbert has that same weird semi side arm delivery Rivers had…just noticed.

Always is funny to me how defensive coordinators get HC jobs and their defense manages to be worse then when they initially took the job.

Anyone notice how Steen did while Opera was out?

My casual watching didn’t pick up any drop off. I noticed there seemed to be some weird snap timing issues being on the road but it didn’t lead to anything negative.

So, what will Howie get from MN for Mariota?

He's obviously not perfect, but Nick is a very good coach and he's likeable by the team, fans, etc while getting under the skin of other teams and their fans.

Happy for him after getting blasted for that first interview.

Now he's gotta win the city a championship (or 5)

I hate him on the sidelines but I was likely gaslit by Andy Reid
