2023 Eagles passing defense:

Passing TDs: 30th

Passing yards: 27th

INTS: 31st

Passing 1st downs: 32nd

2014 (Bradley Fletcher & Cary Williams)

Passing TDs: 29th:

Passing yards: 30th

INTS: 22nd

Passing 1st downs: 28th

I'm not sure everyone recognizes how bad the pass defense is.

Yup, makes one wonder how the heck they contained the dolphins who had the best offense in the league

On the flip side eagles run defense is near the top in most categories.

Which is cool except in a passing league it's not as impressive.

Somehow despite the horrid pass defense and the negative turn over ratio they just keep winning.🤷‍♂️

It's amazing the team has the best record in the league but the defense stinks, the OC is the worst ever and the QB is a turnover machine.

The defense needs time to get healthy and some chemistry because they do have some issues.

The OC sucks and if it wasn't for Hurts and Brown they would have lost twice to DC, Vikings, and possibly Dolphins. I don't get anyone who can't see Hurts isn't as comfortable in this offense or that his calling of play flat out sucks at times.

Turnover machine? No, but the team as a whole isn't going to survive against better teams if that doesn't get cleaned up fast. At least the fumbles.

If the Cowboys beat the Vikings, Bucs, DC, Rams, and the Dolphins we'd be saying they only played one good team. They have gotten by on talent but that won't be as easy the next few weeks.

They do win the close ones, though. That takes heart, and is a good sign. I also think Desai needs to have most of his guys for a few weeks for us to see what they are capable of.

I think Hicks would be a real nice addition. He's a bit up there in years now (3 years older than Myles Jack who apparently didn't have it in him anymore), but seemingly HIcks hasn't lost a step and hopefully his heart is still in it.

Starting to think RB is (should be) a definite consideration:

-- Swift is injury prone

-- Penny ditto

-- Gainwell is cracking off 3 yards a carry and 5 yards a catch

-- Hurts' running ability is diminished and was noticeably uncomfortable after his first run to the sidelines

and Howie has been on the phone trying to find a dt?

Nah Hurts has been hurt for a month And we just heard like two days ago that he's hurt and never showed up on the injury report.

We'll probably here like a month from now that the doctors removed two of Carter's vertebrae and he has a hollow leg that he's been playing on the whole time 🤷‍♂️

A propos of absolutely nothing, how can a team lose a game by 50. 50!
And then come back and beat KC by two TDs?

They played different schemes, a lot of cover 2. It definitely worked. So what do they do? Go right back to their soft crap shell D. I think he's getting info from the analytic dept or Howie or a combo of both that dictates things to him.

I've been saying similar. This team at best has played B- football but I'd say they are averaging C level football for the season. If Hurts can stop with the turnovers, the defense puts it all together and Brian Johnson fixes his RZ calls, this team should steamroll their way to the SB.

Howie likes to restructure for "cap flexibility" to build space to either use or roll over into the next year.

So it could be something or nothing.  (Literally and figuratively the two options  )

I don't think they need to trade for one with Suh out there and their depth....unless he's done for the year. If it was that bad I double he'd be walking around without issues. Anyone who has hurt their back knows just taking a step hurts like a you know what.

I was thinking about this, and I almost feel like when facing a mediocre QB/offense (Mac Jones, Howell, Wilson), Desai reverts to the soft shell zone with the belief those guys aren't good enough to make enough consistent plays to win. Basically, make a middling QB move the ball down the field by throwing underneath, and eventually they will screw it up. Then, against good QBs (Stafford, Tua) he gets more exotic with the pass defense.

It's almost like we play not to lose against bad QBs and bank on them beating themselves.

This defense makes opposing teams one dimensional and they almost only have the option to pass. I would be curious to see how that pass:run ratio against the defense looks compared to other teams across the league.

Eagles have the number 1 running defense. When a team falls behind, they are forced to abandon the run and go pass heavy and I think that will skew the defenses passing stats. Do I think the passing defense can be better? Absolutely. However, I don't think it's as bad as the numbers say. Eagles are 7th in yards/game, even with their terrible pass rankings.

Howell did have the game of his career, now if you were a betting man, would you bet on him ever throwing that accurately again?

Half of the RZ stats are terrible QB draws drawn up by Johnson. That is now nixed with Hurts knee issue. Problem solved. Ha. The other part is Julio Jones having that connection there with Hurts in the slot. We will see more of that and the read option. On Dee the talent is there. Need familiarity, repetitions and health to come together. By after the bye week we will see this defense in much better shape. 🤞 Versus the Chiefs! Bottom line, to be 7-1 with all the adversity and an almost dehabilitating Lane Johnson injury....gotta be very thankful!!

I don't think age has anything to do with Myles Jack, his knees were just fried. Hicks was the opposite. His knees were fried early in his career and ever since he left Philly he's been a healthy, productive LB.

I'd be on board with Hicks, but if he's just a rental they have to be very careful how they invest.

This is what Fangio's system basically does, and what Gannon did last year. With Gannon, he never tried anything else and just stayed with the same thing no matter the QB they played against. Desai is running the same system, but he at least has a brain to adjust as we have seen in the 2nd half multiple times this season.

Not sure I buy the lucky fluke angle here. We didn't exactly show well against him in the first game and he played pretty damn well against Chicago too. He just might end up being a decent QB, but still frustrating to see that we were lost in trying to stop him yet again, and it's not like he's got some offensive guru and supporting cast setting him up for success like Tua or Purdy have.

I know the Swift is injury prone thing is always going to be there because of his Detroit days, but he's been fine here. I also think Boston Scott is more than capable if they would just give him the ball once in a while.

But I'd be all in on adding a RB.

Yup I was just watching some clip with Rex Ryan on it talking about how much he hates the soft shell zone crap every one is playing and how vanilla Desai has been, said Desai needs to put some sprinkles on it.

There were sprinkles In Miami but other than that the D has been pretty blah.

Hopefully they can find some cohesion in the secondary, it's been a mess back there with guys in and out of the line up every week but again the just find a way to win.

I mean against Miami freaking Josiah Scott played a bunch of snaps and they dime how crap down tje dolphins.

There is zero reason that Sam Howell should get almost 400 yards passing and Tua from Miami should be held to a season low.

Hopefully the defense that played Miami shows up for Dallas or else Dak could look like the incomparable Sam Howell...😒

Then again Dak could throw for 500 yards and 5 tds and the way the season has gone the eagles would still win🤷‍♂️

I was more surprised Denver’s defense gave up the amount of points they did to Miami. Their defense was actually good in 2022. Top half of the league in every category and returned a lot of guys. No reason they should’ve been as bad as they were to start the year. It’s why the last couple weeks they’ve actually looked better and only giving up 17.25 ppg
