One thing that was a concern today regarding Hurts, was he didn't seem to trust the OL at all. He went back to immediately sprinting away from the pocket. I don't know how great the pockets were but he wasn't even setting his feet to give the OL a chance to set one up.

I'm just not sure what was with his game today. He was off. He looked slow on his runs. He wasn't seeing wide open WR/TE. The fumble. There was one read play where he looked really indecisive in giving Gainwell the ball.

Very strange game from him considering how great he was last year.

Lamar Jackson had one great year too in his MVP campaign, then the league adjusted to what the Ravens offense was doing, and it has slowed Jackson down.  Hurts will have to continue to improve to stay among the league’s best players, because defenses WILL adjust.

Hurts is a very determined individual and I think he’s smart enough to understand that last season is gone and didn’t give him anything but a big bank account, in the grand scheme of things.  He needs to adjust to Steichen being gone and find the same groove with Brian Johnson running the offense

Outside of coaching one of the most alarming things today was the defense not getting sacks or pressure from the outside. I don't expect 70 sacks again but if they aren't getting pressure the defense is going to be in trouble

Did you notice the field conditions and the quick passing of the Pats today?

Playing on what I assume is a very similar surface that the Cowboys/NYG are playing on and in similar conditions. Cowboys are having no issues rushing the passer.

Hurts was kinda playing this way against the Niners in the NFCCG before we knocked out their QBs and just broke their will with the running game. Every once in a while he'll have a game like this or stretches of quarters like this. Still falls into some bad habits, needs to continue to work on it. Did it vs Indy some last year too.

We are screwed.

Stay down NYG lol

The NY media is going to turn on Daboll so fast.

Thankfully we’re able to learn valuable lessons in a win.

Belichick had all offseason to come up with game plan and threw the kitchen sink at Hurts. Judon and White did a great job rushing Hurts with bull rushes while maintaining integrity. When Hurts escapes it seemed to be mostly to the left, which was probably by design. Hurts was unsure of what he was seeing and often late, if he even saw the open player.

I hate to belabor the point, but a three-headed backfield of Gainwell, Swift and Penny is fine. A backfield of 90 percent Gainwell is probably the worst backfield in the NFL.

Dugger is a helluva safety, but not being able to get Goedert the ball with the offense sputtering along was weird.

Bill O’Brien is a good OC and what he was able to manufacture with the worst pass catching core and interior OL group was impressive. I truly have no idea how they constantly had so many players open over the middle.

Slay is a good player but he’s starting to develop a habit of letting receivers run right past him for coverage busts.

Cunningham seemed to get picked on. It looked like he lost some weight, but he still can’t cover worth a damn.

I know people want Sydney Brown, but he’d probably play so recklessly that he would give up too many big plays.

Overall, I thought the pass rush was fine. We had plenty of quality individual rushes, but Mac got rid of the ball quickly and had really good, subtle pocket mobility.

It was game 1 so I'm not overly concerned about the players I know are good like Hurts & the OL.  But yeah the safety LB combo is worrisome because they may not have had an off first game of the season day that just might be who they are

Not sure which body part Cox hurt.

Hurts needs to be more Peyton Manning/Drew Brees/Tom Brady and less Pat Mahomes/Lamar Jackson/Josh Allen.

Hurts isn’t as athletic as those guys and doesn’t have the arm.  His determination, work ethic, and advancement as a passer from ‘21 to ‘22 give him more in common with the first group than the second.

The way to adjust to the league adjusting to Hurts is to dominate in the pocket.  There is no defensive counter punch to great reads and accurate throws to open receivers.

Watching Hurts take a seat behind the OT on designed runs or loft up wobbly ducks on off balance throws outside the pocket is going to get old fast.

He needs to make quick, sound reads and step into throws from the pocket.  That’s what he does at his best and that’s the key to avoid being a one year wonder.

Im worried the coaches don’t see it that way because they drew up a game plan for Lamar Jackson or Justin Fields today.

This all seems like a pretty big leap from watching him play in game 1 after no preseason and in heavy rain for the first half with a new play caller who got conservative.

The rare good point by ESP.

Did you notice how much pressure they were getting on Hurts? Conditions did not impact them. Yeah, they got the ball out quick.

I just saw Roobs observations that were posted and I guess you better write him. That doesn't mean next week won't be better but that was concerning today.

Davis had a good game. DL is in good shape despite not getting home much today.  Not sure what they'll do about S & LB

No lol. Grounds maintenance.

You trying to become the Philly Sod Father?

Just watching the replay of the 4th and 2 near midfield that could’ve ended the game. Gonna have to watch the all 22 but Dallas goedert appeared to be WIDE open on that play.

just got home to re-watch it

Jones was holding the ball pretty long and eating sacks instead of getting rid of the ball in 2 seconds like NEs QB1.

Hurts needs to be Hurts. He'll be fine. Knocking the rust off

For some reason Hurts didn't see Goedert today. Again I'll just take the win while he works into season form.

Those Goedert misses concern me. Those reads should be made in all climates.

Hurts being rusty isn’t the worry to me. If he looks like this 3 games from now that’s an issue. I think he’ll figure it out and correct his mistakes. I re-watched the game and the 5 things that stood out to me were

1. even when I watched the game live, I thought the playcalling was bad. it was just as bad on the re-watch. Particularly third downs. We basically conceded a handful 3rd downs which with the weapons we have never should be the case. The defense creating a short field made the offense look somewhat better then what they were. Also i feel like most of the called hurts runs the patriots were expecting so the patriots were able to limit the amount of yards. One time it really worked hurts fumbled it on a heck of hit.

2. The Eagles offensive line does not usually play average or below average. Really didn’t think they played up to the standard we’ve grown accustomed to over the years. Dickerson had penalties and wasn’t at the top of his game. Lane seemed to be ok but i don’t think he played to what his standards are for himself. Really want to watch the all 22 to take a closer look at the interior of the oline today.

 3. Dean in a boot and having an MRI is concerning. Our linebackers were thin to begin with and if he’s out an extended period of time that’s a major loss. Not sure there’s anyone on the market that can step in and help. And i don’t see anyone making a trade this early in the year. Even with Dean i think the linebackers are likely gonna be an issue all year.

4. During the preseason I was worried about the safety position. I think Blankenship is gonna be fine. Still worried about it. Not long term cause i think brown and Blankenship will be fine down the road as the starting tandem. However the first half of the season I do think there’s gonna be growing pains and some of that happened today. Also don’t believe Evans should be playing significant snaps

5. Eagles have a game on Thursday. I’m guessing part of the limited touches for swift are due to his durability and not wanting him to have a heavy load on Sunday followed by that on a Thursday a few days later. I’d be surprised if he’s not utilized way more on Thursday. Frankly I like gainwell but i don’t see him as an 18 touch a game type of back. the running game felt very telegraphed and likely better once we knock the rust off and utilize guys like swift more.
