I think the team got fooled into thinking it was over and took their foots off the gas pedal.  It happens.

For the first few drives we were blowing their doors off.

Don't know why they did. It was only 16-0

I would argue Swift as well. The man is electric. That 5-6 yards a pop will keep Defenses honest. Not everyone will be able to do what NE did though. They really do have a pretty good defense and some say they have good coaching too 🙂 Eagles were preparing for two teams due to the Thurs game. Bill could just focus on the Eagles for months. They still took an L.

I am more of a wait and see on Swift. He’s dynamic and explosive type of player. He can hot homeruns if he hits the hole. I am not sure anyone on the team at rb has that type of explosiveness (penny did at one point but I’m not sure what he is now after the injuries). The reason why I say I’m wait and see is that there was a lot of noise before and even after the trade from sources inside the lions’ organization that they were not happy with his ability to hit the hole and take the yards that were there. Besides the injury, they kept with jamaal Williams as the bell cow once swift got healthy cause they preferred Williams who was better at taking what the oline provided.

I’m hoping that’s not the case as the season continues on, but reading lions reporters and some podcasts that was the biggest proponent of the lions dealing him besides durability. I actually think Penny (assuming he hasnt lost a step) is the best actual runner.

Imagine how many sacks he would have had if the DBs and LBs weren't blowing coverages.

Oh, a minimum of 4 by my counts.

Best solution to the problem is either Terry tate office linebacker or Bobby Boucher

If this is like Jordan Davis injury. Howie brings in 2 retreads LB off the streets soon. But he kinda did that with Cunningham and Jack. Lol. Needs to find a trade in all reality. Got tons of picks next year with the 4 compensatory picks added to stash.

At least it's not season ending, not good though.

Looks like it's Cunningham and Ellis for awhile.

Unfortunately I’m more concerned with Cunningham then Elliss

Nick Morrow is a better player than Cunningham. I hope he eventually swaps with Cunningham.

At least it's not an achilles or lis franc. Still, tough for Nakobe.

Dude is a true leader, you have got to respect that.

Saw somewhere Jalen Carter led the NFL DT's in QB Hurries with 7 to go along with his sack and TFL

I think it was 6, but yes.

Also tied the rookie DT high over the past 5 seasons.

He’s going to be so, so good.

Is Deion Jones cooked? Cut by the Panthers a few weeks ago

I disagree. If one of these guys starts popping of 5-6 yards a carry, they're not going to be focusing on Hurts as much at that point.

Some DCs will still have players targeting to hit Hurts.

Can't hit him if he's handing the ball off to someone getting 5-6 yards a pop :)

He was trying to make a play. Sometimes instincts just take over. Teaching point for sure.

The point is... he shouldn't have been put in that position.  The "play" to be made is to secure the ball at all costs.  But, the secondary piece is that he has to protect his body.   Poor job by the coaching staff to even put him in that position.  Worse was not 'coaching' what the proper 'play' is in that specific situation.

May not be season ending but it will probably be season lingering. They need to make a move.

Anytime a Qb is exposed and you can get a free shot at them without being called for a penalty a DCs/players will do so.

Seems like they were playing way off and too soft.  I'd imagine it's by design more so than the players.

Howie should make 2 moves at LB. Way too light there long term. Add Morrow. Then see on trade or snatch a prospect off someone's practice squad. There's just got to be an improvement out there over this collection.

Putting the ball in one of your best players hands doesn't seem like a bad idea. His mistake was not getting down before the defense tried to smash him.

I don't buy that for a second.  I think that was him buying time to come up with a better answer for the future.  With distance between this game and next preseason, he'll look back at the game, and realize that they won the game, and lost only marginal pieces to injury during the preseason (Bradley and McPhearson), but had the rest of the starters healthy for game 1.

Like I said, whether he changes anything or not, it's refreshing to hear a coach say maybe his way isn't the only or best way.
