I too want Hurts to avoid these shots but if a guy who was a pocket passer hung in there in a key moment and took a big shot people would be praising his toughness.  There's definitely a double standard.

No.  There's no double standard.  You created a false equivalency.

A QB standing in the pocket taking a big hit, has protections from the league against certain hits, including driving him into the turf.   A QB, running around down field taking a big hit, has zero protections from the league against those same hits... including cutting his legs out, landing with their body weight on top of him, etc.  (In fact, it was exactly that type of hit last year that knocked Hurts out of the games down the stretch last season.).   I am not going to get on Hurts for running out of the pocket when the situation dictates it.  I am going to call the coaches on the carpet for designed QB runs where those plays would be better served handled by more expendable players, such as the RBs we have on the roster for just such a job as that.

Obviously, a player could get injured on any given snap.  The goal here is to minimize the risk of injury to your single most important player by having some sense about when, where and how to expose that player's body to injury.

I'm from the 4 week school, got taught early when Kotite was 7-2 and whipped the eventual SB champions in SF, then lost 7 in a row. Or something like that.

Then got used to slow starts under AR with the board panicking each season before they'd reel off streaks like 9-1 or so to finish the season.

Now if Lane is struggling in week 5, etc. then I can add some more grey hairs to my collection.

The Eagles are our team and it’s fair to overreact.  But I also don’t really think much differently of Joe Burrow and the Bengals.  I still see them as the 2nd best team and qb in the AFC.  But would I be freaked out if the Eagles did that?  Yep.

The Eagles had games last year where the offense went silent. Remember the first half of the season there was that issue with them in the 2nd half stalling out?

The Eagles didn't pay because they played generally bad offenses with bad QBs so the defense was able to hold the leads and keep giving the ball back to the offense with a historic turnover rate and eventually the offense was able to run the game out.

There were things they could've improved upon last year even. This offense goes as the QB and OL go though.

Cowboy fans are now full of themselves thinking they are the team to beat.

The Bengals have kind of sucked early in the season several times and been fine. It is sometimes fun to overreact but perspective is good too

Let them smell themselves into an early playoff exit as per tradition.

It’s this when they play their worst. Next week they have Rodgers

They are a good team and will win double digit games again but don't they always destroy the Giants? I don't see how that's any indication they are going to have different results than what they have had for 25+ years. But it will be funny to watch from afar as they choke in December and January again.

JT The Brick was saying last night they are his Super Bowl pick.  Not that you should trust the word of anyone who calls themselves The Brick.

So R. Evans is another Alabama guy. Played with Cunningham for a year in Tennessee. A "tackling machine" with 159 on the Falcons last year. This team is already light years ahead of last year's sloppy tackling team. Add Brown in there and at least, we have some hitting going on. Definitely not a soft bunch. Unfortunately, may have to scheme better to hide the passing deficiencies.

It must be September.  Wait until the autumn breeze turn to a cold December wind.  The leaves will fall from those trees and they will stand bare again.

I looked at a couple sites.  The spread was around Eagles -4 and the O/U was around 45.

The game ended as expected.

True, but the journey was bumpier than expected

This felt a LOT like the Colts game last year. After that game, we woke up and smashed people until Hurts got injured. Hopefully this was another wakeup call.

My concern is that Johnson did not seem to have a feel for the game.  He went conservative and did not adjust until they were unsuccessful in 4 series.  The lack of aggression at the end of the half also really bothers me.  I also think this led Hurts to looking for deeper throws and foregoing better targets.

I don‘t know. If some go that crazy against our team after just a few minutes it‘s just weird to me. Obviously I‘m not from Philly, so if it‘s a Philly thing I guess I just don‘t get it. 😄🏻

I am reluctant to draw conclusions on the OC when he was facing Belichek with months to prepare.

OMG. I Hate JT the Brick. He is anti-Philly especially the Eagles. Because he went to an Eagles Giants game and got beat up a long time ago. He openly admits he roots hard against Philly and basically loses objectivity.

Eagles had a few games last year that were a bit like this one.  Cards, Bears, Colts come to mind.  Sometimes a W is simply a W even if it isn't pretty.

Although the total score by both teams was more modest, there were a lot of similarities to last year’s opener against Detroit.  Given a preseason with no snaps by the starters, rust for the coordinators and the players was evident.  In spite of that it was a W.

Other similarity, is I believe that the Patriots are up and coming, just like the Lions were and we will realize later that this was a nice win for a 1st game in a hostile and amped up environment.

If this is like Jordan Davis injury. Howie brings in 2 retreads LB off the streets soon. But he kinda did that with Cunningham and Jack. Lol. Needs to find a trade in all reality. Got tons of picks next year with the 4 compensatory picks added to stash.

Go get my man Nick Kwiatkoski

Was it just me or was the special teams the eagles best unit yesterday?

Siposs actually had a solid game, the punt coverage for a change was really good, covey was solid and Elliott good as always was the player of the game

Having said that if the eagles keep having games where the special teams is the best unit it's going to be a long season

On a side note was my TV busted or were the cowboys wearing baby blue pants???

What a bunch of knobs...

Probably you. There were some good things on special teams (Elliott, Siposs, Covey, and the big hits by Brown and Jobe) for sure, but it was also a unit that allowed one big punt return, one big kickoff return, and had to burn two timeouts because they didn’t know who should actually be on the field. And we missed a PAT.

I still have no faith in our coordinator.

May not be season ending but it will probably be season lingering. They need to make a move.

Oh, no doubt, Howie will bring in a couple of retreads similar to when Davis went down last year.

I like Evans and I think he's better than Cunningham.

I brought his name up months ago. Ok with this signing at this stage and it's about all we will do considering the front offices view on the position
