EMB Blog: 2023 Regular Season thru Week 9 - NO POLITICS

These fumbles are so hard to characterize.  It's not just one player.  This is a vague problem that isn't as clear cut as simply having a bad secondary.  It's something that one could expect to instantly reverse itself within a week's time.

But it hasn't done that.  It's every week.  This offense puts the ball on the ground.

I know everyone says I'm speed obsessed, but we do have a S-L-O-W secondary, even if we overlook the fact that it's just a plain bad secondary.

Slay was a speedster, but he's 33 at the end of this season and doesn't move like that anymore.  Byard and Bradberry join Slay on the wrong side of 30 and they were never fast guys.  Blankenship and Ricks were both undrafted in large part due to limitations with their wheels.  Ringo doesn't play at all anyway, but despite being a 4.3 guy, is a long strider who struggles with quickness (by report).

Collectively, these guys can't hang with ANYONE.  It doesn't have to be Lamb or Mclauren.  It's whomever the QB wants to target.  Any receiver these guys line up against has the raw ability to leave any one of our DBs in the dust.

Problem is there's nothing that can be done about it now

That was me towards the tv! Lol

Same here.

Graham is still a productive player and it’s not like we’re finding a #3 edge rusher who is any better anytime soon. Crazy how many haters there are

Steen may have a future on this line. AND he can play tackle

Time to call it like it is. Goedert is brittle. He doesn’t pick up nagging simple injuries,  but he always picks up an injury.

Slay can still cover.  Not like he used to but he can still play well.

Bradberry is cooked.  He's OK close to the LOS but the deeper he is down field in coverage the more he gets burned.

The fact Dallas got the ball with 46 seconds having to go 86 yards for a td and managed to get all the way to the 6 in 19 seconds is truly ridiculous. Then they imploded and sweat made a play so thank god for that

Hopefully they don’t ruin him by having him play too many different positions. That’s what happened with Seumalo his first couple seasons

Yup, a great D-line but without any blitzing allows almost any NFL QB to have time and look good. Desai let Dak be way to comfortable for most of the game. Thank Jeebus for Reddick, Sweat and Old Man Graham

It's nice to have a great DL that can get there with just 4.   BUT... you can't just trust in that alone.  You have to make the QB think about other things and where that 5th guy could be coming from.  They need to bring a 5th guy more often than they do.  BUT, I think Desai is scared to do that too much because of the secondary musical chairs they are playing right now.  But, honestly, could it be that much worse?

The secondary and linebackers need to be bulldozed and rebuilt in the offseason. Two new corners, maybe three because Maddox is usually banged up. Dean isn’t it at linebacker, but is still on his rookie deal and a decent depth piece. It might be a two-year process because I don’t think they can fix the whole thing in one offseason. Might be able to get away with Reed and Byard at safety again but they’re not long term options. Byard looks like he’s going to win the Robert Quinn award this season.

Reddick deserves an extension. The line is still in good shape.

Steen and Jurgens holding down C & RG or RT long term would be huge for this franchise

He clearly isn't.   He held a PC in his uniform, though by this point... maybe he is washed.  I doubt he's still wearing the pads by this point after the game.

They’ve completely ignored CB in the draft and tried to fix in UDFA

I’m at least five years older than I was four hours ago

Good timing to be coming out of the Bye Week for the Chiefs game

Andy Reid is in "throwback mode”. His receiver corps is reminiscent of Pinkston and Thrash

Steen was solid overall

Guy had two massive clutch sacks against our biggest rival to help win the game, I’m not calling him washed yet

I agree but today looked like the defender intentionally put him in an arm bar which caused the injury.

The opposition's drive may sputter at the last down/second as the field gets tighter.  Maybe they even press and hand us a turnover.  But this defense is a lock to give up massive chunks of yardage into scoring range in all 4-down situations (and in most 3-down situations).  Almost every failed Dallas drive today came from a Dallas miscue or a falling short/out of bounds by about 1 inch.

Been that way for years back to Craig James, Chandon Sullivan, Mac McCain etc.

Given that we keep winning I’ll go with a firm yes.

But to hear the Dallas mouth droolers talk about it, its all about bad calls the Eagles got.   Nothing to do with them crapping the bed.

How many drinks did it take for those Dad jokes to come out unfiltered?
