EMB Blog: 2023 Regular Season thru Week 9 - NO POLITICS

Huge win we needed. We have a real schedule coming up. Dallas has a Charmin ultra soft schedule.

rough schedule coming up? Dont forget that weeks ago people were including the Washington game, The Miami game, and this Dallas game in the rough stretch. We are well in to the rough stretch, and are 3-0 in those games. We are going to continue our winning ways by beating the Chiefs after our bye.

Bills will be tougher because their weapons are tougher. We will beat the 9ers whether they are playing their brand of ball, or possibly they continue to fold.

I dont know if we will beat Dallas in Dallas. We should. If we can clean up these stupid mistakes.

We will beat Seattle.

Worst case we are going 6-2 in this rough 8 game stretch.

Then we are going to win out against the Giants, Cardinals, and Giants.

Not worried about schedule.

what I didn’t like about that third down and eight handoff to swift, I would’ve called a play action boot. And I would’ve used AJ Brown on that side and hope that he was open on that route out and throw it to him. but if he wasn’t open on that rollout, I just have hurts  scramble and try to get as many yards as he can and get down because you still have the clock running so dallas has to call and burn it’s last timeout. but it gives you two potential options. 1. AJ Brown who is a great wide receiver and likely creates separation 2. Jalen hurts running on a bootleg play action that you might have him wide-open field in front of him if Dallas bites on swift running the ball

I think the injury to Goedert affected a lot of the Eagles play calling at the end...

They need to stop putting the game in the defense’s hands to end games. So yes, that is on the offense to get one first down. But it’s on them because of how poor the defense is situationally at the end of games. Most teams can trust their defense not to get in field goal range with 30 seconds left or not give up a 90 yard TD with a minute to go. This defense doesn’t have that. They lost that benefit of the doubt in the Washington games and today.

That's why I'm not sure how much worse KC and Buffalo could be.  30 seconds is enough time for anyone to score against this defense.  When Patrick Mahomes is a marginal improvement over Mac Jones in terms of effortless ball movement and your pass rush is actually less disruptive, it's really nothing we haven't dealt with every week all year.

Both the coordinators have really been the problems all season long.  They are playing not lose instead of trying to win the game.  Frankly, they have gotten luck but you can't discount the character of this team and ability to pull out the W despite them.

Yea, seeing as it's NFL+ but still, it's the ONE thing I went to PE.com for during the season.

You can get the gamebook on the far right corner. I mostly just view it on NFL.com and its at the very bottom.

Really hoping Roby helps. None of our CBs are really slot guys and that impacts everything.

Cincinnati in brotherly shove situation, easy 2nd and 1 way in Buffalo territory…

ugly QB sneak fails, false start, holding on a QB scramble, sack, another false start on long FG attempt, forced to punt.

Big. Teams will get our safeties in 1 on 1 mismatches less often. People can begin to realize Blanketship is really good. Seems too late for Sydney Brown to be put in good situations to prove himself. We may have to suffer through some washed Byard games.  Hopefully he improves through the bye.

Maddox’s annual injury really hurt the secondary

Here are the last 3 drives where Washington and Dallas had the ball to close out halves

commanders with 34 seconds moves the ball 32 (really 37 but commanders got called for a penalty) for a Fg

commanders in 43 seconds went 72 yards for a td.

Dallas in 46 seconds moves the ball 79 yards without a timeout

Can’t get worse than today at the end there. Dallas almost went 90 yards with time to spare. They almost somehow scored too fast with only 50 seconds to go and no timeouts. That was honestly, probably the worst defensive sequence I’ve ever seen outside of Buffalo giving up the FG to KC in the playoff game a couple years ago.

This blog is waaaay too down right now.

We just beat a very, very good Dallas team. Dallas was a top 10 team in DVOA, and was the healthiest they have been all season (100% of their offense, missing 2 players on defense). We were banged up and had to fight out way to victory.

We're one of the few teams with a clear path to the Super Bowl (Elite offense + HFA). That's still on the table. And if you haven't noticed, there is no team that is clearly better than us other than maybe Baltimore.

I was gonna give this a like but then you implied Baltimore might be better than us. Take that back and then its a good post.

Ravens are probably the best team in the NFL.  Luckily we don't play them in the regular season.

Kevin Byard gets an actual bye week to learn the scheme. He's going to be better down the stretch. Roby is an actual slot CB who will be an upgrade for Ricks and Brown. Bradberry can't keep missing at the catch point (law of averages). There's hope here, especially as the weather gets worse.

Points allowed in 2nd half by Philly:

TB 8

Miami 7

Jets 11 (8 on a bad pick at the very end by Jalen)

Rams 0

Cowboys 6

Commanders lit is up both games, but otherwise Desai consistently tightens up at halftime

All my hopes are based on this lol.  Byard especially should be better with some time to integrate.

I don't have that. My bottom right corner says Roster and Depth Chart. There's also no Game Recap in the middle. My only option is NFL+

Weird

8-1...and if we go 5-3 the rest of the way (very doable: 2-3 in our hard games, 3-0 in our easy games), we're 13-4. That's likely good enough for HFA even if we lose to SF straight up (as SF has 3 losses already). We would need 2 losses from Detroit, but that's the Lions.

Our path to the NFCE is also obvious. Beat the Giants twice and Dallas can't win the tie-breaker against us. We will likely have a better conference record than them as they already 3-0, and have 2 AFC games left. So they would have to be a game better.

We're in really good shape.

SF, @Dallas, KC...

That means beating Buffalo, Seattle, Giants x2, Cardinals without a let down.

6-2 is a nearly impossible ask.  5-3 is doable.

We'd need those 2 Detroit losses, but 2 losses from SF if we drop that game.  Everyone is selling them hard right now, but they have a cake walk schedule and those 2 losses may be harder to come by than you think.

6-2 to finish the year makes HFA a near certainty.  I think 5-3 makes it a little better than a coin toss.  4-4 should get the division, but no chance of HFA.

Probably effected it somewhat. I think the first drive of the 4th quarter felt they were just trying to get out of the shadows of their own goalposts and went conservative to not get sacked or turn it over deep in their own territory. Last year someone brought the analytics in here last year (after goedert hurt vs. Washington) that they are also worse running the ball with goedert out of the games (not shocking he’s a really good blocker for a tight end).

swift had a 2.4 yards per carry average today. I feel like just doing a simple handle off on 3rd down was basically just conceding you were just going to make them burn their timeout and punt it.

SF has 3 losses and 9 games left. You can easily find 2 losses on their schedule for them to finish 12-5. SF is also an extremely top-heavy team. They're more susceptible to injuries than most.

They really play up and down to their opponents. Better thenopponent the better they tend to play.

lost to minshew and the colts

throttled browns by 25

lost to the Steelers

8 point game with titans

32 point victory vs. lions

7 point game vs. cardinals

34 point win vs. Seahawks

He hasn't been good but he's only had a few weeks to learn the system and is surrounded by trash play by everyone else around him. I'm sure it's hard for him to trust people around him and know where they will be.
