For Thursday, I'd expect Dean to IR and Morrow added to the 53. Elevate Siposs and Covey again. If Bradberry is out, Goodrich has to dress to backup Maddox.

Week 1: 2020  Ravens 38 Browns 6

Both teams finished 11-5 and did not win the AFC North.

They both won a wildcard game and lost in the divisional.

They'll probably IR Dean and sign Siposs tho Covey is actually the best of the bunch at his position. That leaves them 2 call ups. Siposs had a pretty good day but his problem has been cold weather & critical games so none of that is magically solved

Siposs kicked in a rainy day with cold wet balls.  He had a tear in the crotch of his uniform.

Yeah -- it's been encouraging that this team under Nick finds ways to win these types of games.

Since SB52, my mindset changed forever. I expect to win.  Even when losing or sloppy or bad calls or all of the above.  But in reality what I (we as fans) think is irrelevant.  The reality is that the players and coaches have been resilient and solid, even when the chips are down.  Impressive mentality across two coaching staffs.

Are you saying that Week 1 is too small of a sample size to draw any conclusions about any team in the league? No way.

As for all the Cowboys hype we will hear, well...they do this every year. It's a little early this year. But...Aaron Rodgers owns them.

They didn't need to do anything on offense, and that's where the questions are on this team. The Giants were beyond awful (for the 2nd game in a row), and they seem to be a team under Daboll that can win close games against mediocre teams but get slaughtered against good teams (playoffs last year, against Dallas last year, etc.). I still don't think Dallas will lead the NFL in takeaways for a 3rd straight year, but they are off to a nice start.

I don't think he wanted out at all.  I think he was expecting a big pay day from the Eagles.  When that didn't happen, he got bent out of shape.  Then the market was really weak for him and he got more bent out of shape.

And next offseason when the Eagles are in the market for a safety:

Movie gif. Ryan Reynolds as Chris in Just Friends sits on a sofa in bewildered confusion. He looks up as if searching for clarity on the ceiling.

My concern is that Johnson did not seem to have a feel for the game.  He went conservative and did not adjust until they were unsuccessful in 4 series.  The lack of aggression at the end of the half also really bothers me.  I also think this led Hurts to looking for deeper throws and foregoing better targets.

He clearly had a feel in the first 15 scripted plays.  I’m not sure why that fell apart.

I don't thik it's changing unfortunately, they are very thick headed about S, LB, RB. Band aid patch jobs coming right up. Hopefully they hit on Brown and Dean though.

Other similarity, is I believe that the Patriots are up and coming, just like the Lions were and we will realize later that this was a nice win for a 1st game in a hostile and amped up environment.

I think the Pats are a fringe WC team this year though that division is going to make it tough.  Yesterday's win will likely look a lot better a bit down the road.

What’s the latest fine print on IR?  (How long you have to be on it and how many players can be released from it).

Although the total score by both teams was more modest, there were a lot of similarities to last year’s opener against Detroit.  Given a preseason with no snaps by the starters, rust for the coordinators and the players was evident.  In spite of that it was a W.

I don’t see it. Last year the Eagles put up over 400 yards of offense against the Lions. They barely cracked 200 yesterday.

They gave up a 43 yard kick off return

My bad.  You are right.

I do think there is a mentality with the coaching philosophy with this team to go into a shell when they go up 2-3 scores. Which is basically the opposite of what you saw Dallas do last night where they had Dak still in and throwing towards the end of the third quarter. That was pretty much the trend for this team almost all last season when they would go conservative in the second half and just sit on the ball and it worked. They may have tried that yesterday after the two turnovers, but it was way too early in the game to do that and the four straight three and outs just left the defense out to dry.

It was almost like last year was in a dome against a speed offense and bad defense and this year was in the rain against a strong D...

Not much of a leap, really,

Some hot takes:

With CJGJ starting, the Pats never throw their way back into that game and it stays a laugher.

With Hargrave on a large deal and the 1st round pick used elsewhere, the Eagles are 0-1 right now.

The personnel from the 2021 offense wouldn’t have scored any fewer points yesterday.

1998 Week 1: Seahawks 38 Eagles 0 in Philly

9 sacks

defensive TD

Seattle finished 8-8

That was the day that Eagles fans lost their minds that Jeremiah Trotter wasn’t even dressed and were complaining they should have drafted Ahmad Green, who torched us in his first career game.

1998 was the worst season I ever experienced as an Eagles fan. Dog-ish from day one and you knew it was going to be like that for the entire season. Ugh.

Roller coaster for the ST yesterday.  Flubbed hesitation punt attempt penalty, missed extra point, bad kickoff coverage...   ...three massive FGs, Covey with excellent punt return, couple of huge hits right when the punt return guy fielded the ball

That is the "more modest” part

IMO…before the season…my top teams in the nfl:

1. Chiefs 2. Eagles 3t. Bills 3t. SF 5. Dolphins

After week 1:

I thought we’d split with Dallas before; I think we’ll split with Dallas now.

So not much has changed.

But dooode, didn’t you see the Cowboys last night? How can you not have them at number one? How can you even imagine the Eagles beating them once?

Net positive on special teams is a step up....

Yup the two games are obviously comparable. New England's Defense is clearly no better than Detroit's last year. The weather in the dome yesterday was awesome also.

Because of what happened with the Eagles post 2017 when everyone blamed the loss of Reich and JDF(turned out that wasn't the problem, it was just that Wentz sucked and Foles sucked too and had a fluky run). Everyone is going to blame Brian Johnson whenever the offense doesn't click 100% this season and it's going to be insufferable.

What people need to understand is Johnson calls and chooses plays based on the framework of what Sirianni wants to do. Like yesterday on the 3rd and 20 draw, Johnson calls a draw because he knows Sirianni wants something conservative there. Johnson picks what conservative play to pick, but the idea that the Eagles weren't going to try something down field there is Sirianni's decision, not Johnson's.

But Johnson is the newcomer and Sirianni has built up equity with his success, everyone piles on the low hanging fruit, and it's really unfair.

And on the other side of the ball, you have a brand new DC tasked to scheme around a middle of the defense that was frankly neglected by Howie this season. But I don't suspect Desai will get as much piling on as Johnson on rough nights because of the Gannon effect.

Will be defending both this season early and often.
